Is this company an MLM?

A friend of mine signed up to be an “affiliate” of vmcsat.com? Is this a muli-level marketing company or another scam? Here is what I see listed on their web site. I know he’s already paid money to some company for search engine listings. Will they persuade him to pour additional money down some other money pit?

I had to pry this person out of Amway a few years ago.

Could NSync possibly be one of those “boy bands” I keep hearing about?

dalej42, yes it is, but a very crude version. Their marketing plan only pays up to 2 levels deep, and is possibly the simplest MLM pay scheme I’ve ever seen, but as long as your friend doesn’t have to pay for stock he shouldn’t get his fingers burned too badly. Most MLM companies pay out a significant percentage of their commission on stock that is bought by new recruits for demo purposes. A good MLM company should shift the majority of their product to proper end consumers (not just friends and family - I’m looking at you Amway!), and definitely not “front loading” stock on new recruits.

MLM companies come and go at quite a rate, and I’m not convinced that this one will be around too long. Even the ones that see huge sales growth need big capital backup to make it sustainable.

Slant’s Rule:
If you Google a “business opportunity” that is not offerred by a Fortune 1000 company by name in conjunction with the word “scam” and get more than seven hits, it is probably a scam.
