Is “the Pit” not the right place to randomly bitch about something that’s bothering me?
Say for instance I have a bad day (or just a bad scene in my day) and I just need to get it off my chest. Is this not an ok place for me to voice it? There seems to be a lot of confusion over this tonight.
I realize that not everyone else wants to hear about what went wrong in my day, but they aren’t forced to read my threads are they?
I see these types of posts in here constantly, but I’m wondering if we’re all out of line?
Maybe one of the Mods (and not some frequent poster who’s decided that since they’ve got a trillion posts under their belt, that qualifies them as a make-shift Mod) can clarify just what The BBQ Pit is for?
I apologize if this should have been posted in ATMB, but I felt that since I am concerned specifically with what’s to be posted in the Pit (not the boards in general) that this would be the place to post.
I’m not sure why you wouldn’t use this forum to bitch, piss, whine or moan…that’s what it’s here for. You may also use it for it’s stated purpose “to bitch about the Mods” or whatever it says in the description.
Don’t make a big deal about it. Need to fucking cuss? Post here. Gotta get some weight off your chest in a manner that would otherwise be seen as improper for MPSIMS? Post it here… Got a controversial topic that may start a flame war? Might as well post that here too…

Thanks for your post GaWd. Getting opinions of what other posters think is and is not acceptable in here is exactly what I was looking for, along with any Mod who might give me good factual rules.
You’re right. it is. But dont expect people not to respond to it. You can choose to defend your rant if you want to, but if you don’t, some people could construe that to being a rude thing to do.
wait a second, apparently when someone who is part of the “Clique” starts a thread for the above reason, its called “starting a bandwagon”.
Can you reconcile these statements?
I’m not stalking you or anything, and I really have no problemn with you, but I find your actions slightly hypocritical, seeing as you blasted me for doing that same thing as you just did.
Before I can respond to this, I need to know what I blasted you for and then turned around and did? I’m not being a smart ass here, I just want to make sure I know what action I’m defending.
Generally, you can gripe about whatever you want, with a few exceptions. For instance, if you had a problem in #straightdope chat, keep it in chat. Likewise, if you have a problem on the Fathom board, or on any of the newsgroups that are unaffiliated followers of the Straight Dope (alt.fan.cecil-adams and misc.facts.straightdope, I believe), keep it over there. Don’t post a link to another message board and say that they’re all stupid, and encourage other TMs to go over and troll on that board. If you are having problems with another family member or friend who also posts on this board, for crying out loud, do NOT start anything on this board. It will just be too painful.
And remember:
Anything you post on this or any other message board is PUBLIC. Even if your boss, spouse, parent, etc. isn’t reading the board NOW, there’s no guarantee that s/he won’t find this board in the future! Discretion is advised. Don’t post anything that you don’t want announced over a loudspeaker at your home, club, place of employment, whatever.
We get a lot of people saying “Ooops, I shouldn’t have posted all those details, please delete them.” While we can and will delete a thread or post or two, we won’t go and ferret out every post someone made on Subject X. So use caution when posting.

No, not wrong at all. But you’re misunderstanding my OP. I asked if this was the correct place to rant and bitch. I did not mean about other posters by starting a persecution thread such as the one you started about Bossk.
You’re as hypocritial as anyone as anyone, because you yell at him for his personal attacks on you and other posters, but then start a whole new thread to attack him. And you’ll probably state that you were giving him the opportunity to state his “malfunction”, but you knew damn well when you started the thread that it would turn into a bashing.
Yes, I personally attacked others in that thread, which one could argue as hypocritical of me. And I’ll admit it, I was acting like a hypocrite… in that thread.
As I stated “over there” I’m not going to keep going on it. I stated my case and I’m leaving it at that. I’m not going to take this thread and turn into another rendition of that one.
For the most part, other than the Bossk thread, my posts have not attacked anyone on the boards. I intend to keep it that way.
I’m a peaceful person, but I’m also opinionated. And when I’ve heard/taken all I can, I speak up.
In that thread, Bossk’s posts were attacked, the way he presents himself here on the boards was attacked.
Bossk isn’t content with staying on the boards, but attacks on a more personal level. Making cracks about people not being able to get laid, making fun of someone’s poetry not posted here, making fun of someone’s personal appearance, etc. You see what I’m getting at? There’s a difference between jumping someone for the way they behave on the boards and jumping someone on a strictly personal level, bringing in things from off the board just to land a cheap shot.
