Is this the most woeful season of new TV ever? Will anything survive?

Prime Suspect is getting better. Jane is developing some rapport with the other detectives, and they’re lightening up on the sexism.

Not a new show, I can’t imagine that the retooled Two and a Half Men will last past this season. I didn’t watch – haven’t watched since the first episode, to see how they killed Charlie – but this week Evelyn (Charlie’s mom) slept with Walden (Ashton Kutcher’s character).

I haven’t gotten hooked in any new shows in several seasons. This season I’m watching two: Grimm and Once Upon a Time.

I love American Horror Story. I’m trying real hard to love Once Upon A Time because I NEED something to watch on a regular basis, since all my favorites are approaching their sell-by date (Desperate Housewives, House, Grey’s Anatomy). I’m hoping Hell On Wheels will capture my interest, it will have to have really good characters l can buddy up to.

Still waiting for Dirty Jobs to come back, I read now maybe in December, and Mike Rowe said Discovery Channel is re-thinking the whole deal (words to that effect) about that show. :frowning:

So far, Once Upon a Time is in my OK, but not great list; I watch it primarily because there’s nothing else on Sunday.

I’m willing to try Grimm again, though it has to improve drastically for me to keep watching (the premiere was a great sleep aid).

Might try occasionally:
New Girl. Mostly because I liked Zoey Deschannel. The show just isn’t that funny.

Tried and found lacking:
Person of Interest. There’s nothing of interest about it.
Terra Nova. Terrible Nova is more like it. It’s just plain stupid, with lazy writing and with not cliche left unturned.
**Unforgettable. ** Unmemoriable
2 Broke Girls. Awful, awful, awful. It’s only on the schedule because it makes 2 1/2 Men seen funny.

Indeed. I was right there with you GameHat, and was pretty vocal myself in Cafe Society threads about it.

The new Charlie-less Two and a Half Men is awful. Jake and the maid are hardly in it anymore; I’ll be very surprised if it gets picked up for another season.

Up All Night is also awful. I’m sure it’ll get cancelled after this season.

Whitney isn’t very good, but it’ll probably survive for a while because NBC has such a lame line-up, they need anything watchable they can get.

I still like Person of Interest. Then again, I’ll watch anything by J.J. Abrams.

That was a rare miss for AMC. Can’t believe there was enough interest to renew. I won’t be watching.

I am looking forward to Hell on Wheels, which starts this weekend.

I’m the only person who likes Whitney, I think. It’s not a must-see, I just watch it because it’s on before Grey’s Anatomy, but it’s okay.

I have a very short list this season:

**Grimm **(OK first episode, willing to give it a few more)
**Pan Am **(Finally watched episode #1 which has been hanging around my DVR forever. It’s not half bad)
**Up All Night **(I can totally understand how this isn’t for everyone. But with an 11 month old daughter, my wife and I find it hilarious).

I really think that’s it. A few others I’ve tried and said no. Most I haven’t even bothered to watch.

I thought this article on Splitsider was interesting. It only talks about sitcoms, not about other TV shows, but it shows that in the last 10 years there have been some better years TV wise, and some years that were much, much worse.

Up All Night probably isn’t getting canceled anytime soon. It gets pretty good ratings, and considering that it’s on NBC where everything else gets crappy ratings, it’s probably gonna stay around a while. And I find it pretty funny even though I don’t have any kids.

a little clarification… supposedly due to the high cost, Spielberg insisted that Fox order a whole season of Terra Nova… so it won’t necessarily get ‘canceled’ if the rating are poor, but just won’t get renewed. I’m anticipating a move to Friday nights or some undesirable slot if the ratings get too low.

I think if Whitney Cummings were playing Max in 2 Broke Girls, it would appeal to a lot more people. It’s pretty clearly her voice, the brunette actress is just so damn wooden and fucks up all the deliveries.

Watching:
Person of Interest
The New Girl

Was watching and now am not sure is still on
Alphas

Watched through osmosis:
Strike Back

The last two are cable shows and their idea of a season confuses me.

Strike Back is also British, so strike that.

*Alphas *ended its first season a month or two ago. It has been renewed and will be back next year.

Once Upon A Time just got a full-season order.

Suits? Please tell me it is coming back!

Good to know. Thanks.

I agree that this is generally a pretty woeful season for new TV, but I am kind of shocked that no one has mentioned Homeland as an exception. I think it’s the best thing currently on TV.

I am liking New Girl and Suburgatory. 2 Broke girls is also watchable but on notice.

I liked Terra Nova in a cheezy Ahhh! Dinosaurs! sort of way but the time slot is crowded so I decided to just rent the season (series?) DVD.

Same with Once Upon a Time. Liked the pilot but there are 4 million shows I like on Sundays so it will be watched on DVD over the summer probably.

Still have Grimm on my DVR

It’s on Cable but the reboot of Thundercats is pretty awesome, so is Homeland. I am probably officially the only person to put those two shows in the same sentence.

I like Whitney. It’s better than all the other new sitcoms this season. Of course, that’s really not saying much.
