I got sent the commercial shown here and, while I thought it was pretty darn funny, I was really surprised to hear that some people consider it offensive. Meanwhile, my younger friends think it’s cute but tame by today’s standards. Considering the subject matter- masturbation and toys (I guess Rubik’s Cube is more of a puzzle, but the target audience of the site does seem to be children/young teens)- is it wrong to have this kind of ad, one some people might read as using sex to sell toys, on the pedophile-friendly internet, of all places?
Didn’t offend me any.
I thought it was pretty damn funny. I wouldn’t want my kids to see it (they’re all under the age of 10) but… that’s why these things stay viral.
Good stuff.
Is there another link to it? Angelfire is blocked in my part of China.
Looked like a pretty lame ad to me.
Funny, that thread on finding dolls that aren’t hyper-sexual is a few threads down.

The pedophile-friendly internet? What? That comment doesn’t seem to have much to do with the ad.
I don’t think this is aimed at kids at all. I think it’s aimed at those of us who remember when the cubes were a huge new cool thing to try to get us to buy another one.
It didn’t bother me at all. Since I already knew it was a Rubiks commercial, I just assumed that the guy was playing with his cube and not his rod.
I think that anyone who finds this offensive is pretty uptight about themselves.
As for the notion of using sex to sell toys, hell, the implication of sex is all over televised commercials. Beer, the myriad of boner pills, you can’t get away from it. And the internet is no more pedophile-friendly than the mall, the amusement park, the playground, the guy in the ice cream truck, the beach, etc.
