I think this is part of problem with getting through to low information voters. Before Biden dropped out, my very intelligent, fairly successful brother was going to vote for Trump. He admitted Trump is a nutbar but his greed financial interests dictated that choice. I asked him if he was aware of the giant, noxious cloud of batshit crazy surrounding Trump, that will remain long after he’s sweating in Hell. No, he wasn’t; he was only focusing on the one issue he thinks will affect him. It’s nearly impossible for me to believe any issue could be more important than the harm that will done with another Trump presidency but some people are blind and deaf to things they think won’t touch them.
What “financial interests” does he have, that he thinks Trump will improve?
After languishing for most of the last decade after multiple economic crises, my retirement saving fund is probably 80% higher now than it was in 2020. I can’t see anything Trump could do that would improve on that.
It’s interesting that they just cancelled it outright, rather than let Trump’s stand-ins get the message out that was ostensibly the theme of the event. It’s almost as if the “I like his policies” crowd knows that his policies are entirely empty, and so there’s no point in having anyone else but Trump on the stage, since his surrogates will be even more empty than him.
It’s a matter of rightwing dogma that the Republicans are better for the economy than the Democrats. The fact that like every other claim the Right makes that this is contradicted by reality is just ignored.
Note we were talking about Vancouver WA, which is urban and blue.
Clark County, WA is leaning liberal. In Clark County, WA 51.0% of the people voted Democrat in the last presidential election, 45.9% voted for the Republican Party, and the remaining 3.2% voted Independent.
In the last Presidential election, Clark county remained moderately Democratic, 51.0% to 45.9%. Clark county voted Democratic in the four most recent Presidential elections, after 2000 and 2004 went Republican.
Yep, the MAGAs say, if Harris has so many good ideas why didnt they get put into effect in the last 4 years? Well, first of all, Harris is Veep, not president, next the Dems had an uncooperative House. But if trump has so many great ideas- why didnt he get those done in his four years?
If you look at the economy under Trump before covid, it was much stronger than under Obama.
Look at the high inflation and high interest rates after Biden took office.
Look at gas prices when Biden took office.
It’s clear, the Dems are bad at economy and Trump was good. The facts don’t lie!
(/Republican)
I know, that’s not a look at the actual dynamics that drove those performance differences. The cursory look at the “data” confirms the expectation. That’s all they need to see.
Bingo. As I said, low info voter and also taught (basically) Dems = poor(er) Pubs=rich. I think that was probably true when we grew up in the late 70s and our parents explained it that way.
This is in reply to @Horatius
Huh. Here in Canada, I have been told by Conservatives that Trudeau was entirely responsible for inflation and high gas prices. Just recently, I’ve been told by Conservatives that our provincial premier was responsible for inflation.
Seems that this “argument” (and I use that term loosely) is common around the world among right-leaning folks.
I suggest these conservatives take a simple course in economics, or read a Wikipedia article on it. This might be of some use to them.
“Where’s Christi? Is she around? Let’s see. Christi? Christi?” (Christi was sitting right next to him)
“They have weapons that are of military quality. Somebody said it might be a step up. It’s called a supreme. Military supreme.”
“How would you like to be a woman, a little girl, a little boy, in the trunk of a car? That’s how they find them. A lot of the time they’re DEAD.”"
“[Solar energy is] all steel and glass and wires. It looks like hell. And you see rabbits get caught in it … it’s just terrible.”
“Who the hell takes off? We have 14 days left. And she’ll take a couple of more days off too, you know why? She’s lazy as hell and she’s got that reputation. She’s a radical left lunatic. She’s further left than Bernie Sanders or Pocahontas. Now, Pocahontas, because I think, is Pocahontas, Rick, is Pocahontas further left than Bernie? Just about, right? It’s close. It’s close. Who the hell cares right? Rick says, ‘Eh, I don’t know.’ But they’re out there. But she’s, but she’s furthest left. We can’t have a person, she’s a Marxist. Her father’s a Marxist professor, by the way. The fake news, look at all of them, where’s the father? We should interview because I’d find it interesting to see what he has to say. I don’t know, they seem to have a problem, but it would be nice to interview the father. He’s a Marxist professor and I think that’s okay. that’s good, fine. but I think it’s appropriate that the father be interviewed by the fake news. They don’t want to interview him and I wonder why. If we had a real press in this country, this wouldn’t even be a race. And I’m not sure it is a race anyway. They just came out with the Atlanta constitution—” (gets cut off by CNN)
The idea that right wingers are better at running the economy/infrastructure dates back to at least the original fascists; “at least the trains run on time” and all that. (They didn’t)
That presumes they might care about reality. They don’t. Not anymore, if they ever did.
Their view is that whatever they believe to be true is true, and whatever they believe to be false is false. Any evidence that suggests otherwise can be disregarded. And if tomorrow those beliefs are swapped around the other way, they will always have been that way.
Well, the state as a whole went 58% for Biden in 2020, compared to 39% Trump.
The last R Senator from Washington state was in 2001.
The last time there were two R senators at the same time was 1923.
Governor has been a D since 1985.
In the state legislature, D’s hold a majority in the Senate and also in the House.
