Is Trump giving up?

He tried that last time and got nowhere, even with his Supreme Court.

Quoting @solost : “I think @aurora_maire nailed it in the 'Is trump confused?” thread-- it’s all about revenge. trump has long been vengeful toward anybody he sees as his enemy, and in his mind he was hoping to crush Biden, who he sees as having stolen the 2020 election from him. The desire to not just beat but humiliate Biden gave trump energy and focus (as much focus as he’s able to have, anyway). Now he feels robbed of his chance get back at Biden, and it’s left him listless and off-message. "

And I agree with you both, but maybe there are a few more dots to connect.

Biden is connected to that unforgiveably uppity, smart and popular 1/2 African POTUS #44 who has a life - lease in DJT’s head:

Despite his attempts to belittle, insult and thwart everything that Obama and Biden have ever done, it is they who are being lauded as great presidents by scholars who reallly count. I doubt whether even that bunch of second-stringers who he installed on SCOTUS view him with that kind of deference.

Now he faces defeat by a 1/2 Jamaican FEMALE. Harder to take than Obama! It’s infuriating him. No wonder he fantasizes about his reliable punching bag coming back, and no wonder he keeps questioning whether VP Harris is REALLY Black, because he can’t stand that she is.

Normally I don’t like to see a fellow creature suffer, but I’ll make an exception in his case.

I think the Republicans in Milwaukee were an aberration. Don’t the candidates poll numbers usually go up during their convention?

He absolutely won’t drop. And if, after all the voter suppression and election officials’ intimidation, he still loses the election, he will never accept it. Never. And neither will his base.

Most of his supporters don’t know anyone outside of their bubble and will not believe that there are enough voters to beat him. I suffer from the same difficulty–I don’t know anyone who is in the bubble and don’t see how he can win.

We all seem to agree he ain’t gonna quit. But what I wonder, is when do we start to see the Exodus from his campaign people? I think the writing is going up on the walls already, and they are going to see the defeat coming. Or maybe they won’t be getting paid soon.

Gonna be fun to watch this shit-castle get washed into the sewer.

He was behind in 2016 and 2020, both times significantly more than today. None of that will happen. Specially not when they know he will try to take the White House no matter what the vote says.

As soon as the paychecks bounce and not 10 seconds sooner.

It’s not going to come to that.

I think the RWs have figured out that faking the count is a losing plan.

So they’ve spent 4 years moving upstream. If a bunch of D-leaning votes are never cast, the count can be honest and still frustrate the will of the electorate.

A bunch of voter roster purges a few days before the election, a lot of polling places surrounded by Proud Boyz, many polling locations in D-heavy areas closed or grossly understaffed / underprovisioned by design, a flood of challenges to specific voters in the jurisdictions where conveniently obstructive laws have recently been passed by compliant legislatures and suddenly trump performs per his polling, but Harris’s voters are mysteriously absent by 5-10% vs. expectations and especially in the few states where 5, 10, or 20K votes makes the difference in who gets all the EVs.

Then trump wins “fair and square”.

Easy peasy. The courts (if honest) can’t fix this in real time. Which is what’s needed given the rigid stupid timelines and assumptions of traditional mostly-honest behavior written into our laws.

I have to disagree. Trump’s never felt responsible for anyone but himself. He doesn’t give a shit about this country, saving it or otherwise. And he definitely doesn’t give a shit about his followers. All his talk about what a disaster this country has become is just in service to his goal of getting votes. He knows it’s bullshit and he doesn’t care.

Garfield, Harrison, and McKinley had the most successful Front Porch Campaigns. Per Wikipedia. It tended to drop off after the 1900s started.

You attribute to Trump’s toadies a level of competence and organization that they have never once displayed in nine years. None of this is going to happen. Hell, the Proud Boys don’t even exist any more in an organized sense.

Trump has hinted he might flee to Venezuela if he loses the election.

Donald Trump has apparently considered the possibility that he might lose the 2024 election—and, if he does, his plans for the future involve a one-way ticket to Venezuela.

Speaking to Elon Musk on Monday, the former president told the X owner, “If something happens with this election, which would be a horror show, we’ll meet the next time in Venezuela, because it’ll be a far safer place to meet than our country. So you and I will go and we’ll have a meeting and dinner in Venezuela.”

Venezuela? Ha; that’s certainly the last place I’d flee to, it’s the sort of place you flee from. A while back while googling something Venezuela-related I happened upon the US government’s travel advisory for Venezuela, and couldn’t help but note that drafting a will was one of the recommended actions if you insist on going there.

And Trump would have a great big target painted on him there, for multiple reasons. And the Secret Service isn’t omnipotent.

Knowing Trump he just pulled that out of his ass at that moment with no thought but I believe it suggests he is thinking of an exit from the US if he loses. I have no idea if he keeps SS protection if he does that.

If he left the country isn’t he liable to stand for those trials and maybe conviction and sentencing and possibly jail time looms?

Wouldn’t the SS be obligated to reveal his location if they are there? I mean they do work for the US government.

Would they extradict him, or try to?

Would I care if he languished in a country where all Americans are targets?
Nope. I would not.

Apparently yes. Although not to the extent a sitting President gets.

How long do former presidents receive Secret Service protection after they leave office?

In 1965, Congress authorized the Secret Service (Public Law 89-186) to protect a former president and his/her spouse during their lifetime, unless they decline protection.

I’m reminded of how during the national health care debate during the Obama Administration lots of right-wingers claimed they’d flee to other nations is it was instituted…all of which already had government-provided national health care. The Right tend to be very self-absorbed & provincial people who don’t really understand the world outside their bubble, and Trump himself is almost a parody of an ignorant “don’t confuse me with the facts” narcissist. I have strong doubts he actually knows much at all about Venezuela; not even what one could glean from its Wikipedia page, since that would require that he actually bother to look it up.

I’m sure he knows that it’s where Eichmann ran off to.

What he knows about Venezuela is there’s de facto no extradition and a fellow authoritarian rules the place. And one dollar buys an awful lot more [whatever] down there than it does up here. He’d have a private island, plenty of servants, and plenty good security even if the USSS wasn’t permitted to enter the country.

He’ll be fine there. Senile, stupid, and psychotic. But fine.

Plus, according to him, Venezuela no longer has any criminals, as they sent all of them to the U.S.
