Is Trump giving up?

I imagine gold-plated toilets would be hard to come by.

There’s a bunch of issues with that. The first being that there’s no such thing as a “fellow authoritarian”; Maduro is on Maduro’s side, not Trump’s side. If he decided it was more politically or financially profitable to hand Trump over to the US, have him killed or toss Trump in a jail cell, he’d do it without blinking. But narcissists like Trump often can’t really grasp that other people might care as little about them as they care about everyone else.

Second, a dollar doesn’t actually go farther there for the simple reason there’s a lot less to buy, and Maduro & his cronies already control what little is available. Nor is anything short of a literal army enough for security there, and Maduro isn’t going to lend his.

Which also supposes Trump is an actual billionaire and not a billionaire on paper only.

I assume if he fled justice the US would lock down his accounts as well. Would he have access to the cash needed to pay off enough people in Venezuela (or anywhere) to protect him?

More to the point though (for the OP) is this seems to be in his mind. He’s thinking about it so is seriously considering options to get away if he loses in November.

Also I see there’s a section where it tells you how to prepare to be taken hostage.

IIRC the State Department also takes the position that if you go there, they will not work to save you. They warned you and, beyond a strongly worded letter from the US to Venezuela, the US will not help you.

Tiredness? But Trump has the busiest schedule, up at all hours, campaigning all the time. Need been busy campaigning for others. He’s always high energy, not like Sleepy Joe.

(/Vance)

Trump always talks in word salad, so it’s not clear, but to me it sounds like he’s trying to say she’s not very well known, people don’t remember her name well. “What is her last name? Kamala Harding? Harness? Herring?”

But maybe I’m giving him too much credit. Maybe he’s suggesting because he first name is Kamala, her last name must be something “foreign”, like Barrack Hussein Obama. It couldn’t be the common “Harris”.

He’ll be dead there. Authoritarians dislike competition, and Trump just can not STFU.

Like this maybe?

Trump seems to like “Kamabla”:

The link above shows you this:

I think I saw him also try “Kamabala” somewhere.

She does seem to be known by her first name. It’s more recognizable, emphasizes her gender, and there’s been discussion on how to correctly pronounce it. Perhaps she should play to that up as a strength; get people to start calling the The Kamala.

IIRC they took away his passport for the bail hearing on the hush money case.

Also, as I mentioned before- Nazis flee to Argentina, not Venezuela. Geez.

Now we have to worry about the cloning of a new generation of Trumps? :scream:

Someone should really make that movie.

ETA: The Boys From Venezuela: The Rise of Barron

It’ll just be Downfall all over again.

Now I have ‘Nancy? Nancy! Ahahahahahaha!’ in my brain.

I doubt the lack of a passport would matter in his case in the slightest. If he’s going there, whether now or 4 years from now or whenever, it’s at the pleasure of their Jefe. And he’s not much worried about coming back to the USA since he won’t be doing that.

Much as the Shah of Iran lived out his years in Panama on a private island. The laws that apply to us ordinary schlubs don’t apply to the folks important enough to be noticed personally by the heads of state of various countries.

As to Argentina:

That is soooo last century. You gotta keep up there, Deth! This century it’s Venezuela. At least until 2030 then it’s all change again and who knows who’s next as the Nazi hideout of choice. As long as it’s not “The Territory Formerly Known as the United States of America” I’m happy with whoever it might be.

He also said it was a country where crime had radically decreased due to the kind of repressive government he likes.

He really meant El Salvador.

How do you leave the USA without one? Unless he drives over the border into Mexico first…

(Johnny Carson Voice) “I did not know that”.

Can’t he walk on his private plane in Miami with a flight plan to Atlanta and then just change direction and go to Venezuela? When he lands, his passport is a cash payoff to local officials.

That’s not how it works anymore. In fact, I’ve seen that given as the reason why so many dictators hold on the the bitter end these days; they expect that giving up power would get them killed, not a cushy retirement.

Even more important, Maduro has no reason to shield Trump. Trump’s not a crony of his, and would have nothing to offer him beyond his value as something to hand over to the US in return for concessions, or imprison/kill for political benefit - the opposite of what Trump would want.
