Quick summary, you send them $25, then you can start reading things from various companies and writing in your opinion, or something (I’m a little fuzzy on that part). Each opinion is supposedly worth from $15 to $95 (!!!), with no limit to how many you can read. When you have accumulated $25 in your account (where have we seen that number before?), they will send you a check.
Pretty much everything that I’ve ever seen that promises huge rewards for doing very little have proved to be either out and out scams, or else they misrepresent the amount of work involved (college painting jobs, stuff envelopes at home, for instance). I’m also extremely leary of anything that requires you to give them money up front.
So, what do you think’s going on? If you think it’s (semi-) legit, how are they actually making money? If it’s a scam, how will it play out? Does it involve monkeys?
Probably what happens is that you pay them $25 to register, then when you log in, “there are no surveys available at this time. Please try again later.”
Sounds like a scam to me. However, mysurvey.com is not. You certainly won’t make huge amounts of money doing these, but they’re usually short, simple, and they do pay. You go to the site, register, and fill out a long questionnaire. Based on the questionnaire, they email you when they have surveys for you to take. You earn points for filling out surveys. You can trade points for cash or prizes. I go for cash. It usually takes about 4 months to accumulate enough points to get a $20.00 check from them, but I’ve gotten several.
Note to mods, and others who may be concerned: I in no way benefit from having others sign up with this group. I’m not hawking anything, just pointing to an honest, no-scam “we will pay for your opinions” site.
Larry Mudd, thanks for the excellent research. It hadn’t even occured to me to do a whois on them. I find it interesting that they keep moving to new sites.
norinew, that’s how I figured a survey service would actually work - if you assume that there actually are companies that would pay $15 to $90+ for a survey, why wouldn’t paidopinions just skim their fee off of that? What possible service are they rendering for a non-refundable $25 start-up fee?
I feel bad for the people that got suckered, but a fool and his money…
