I’m sorry, but this is dumb as a rock. ISIS is going to defeat the interests of Iran, Hezbollah and Putin’s Russia? Got to ask you to go stand with John McCain in the corner.
Somehow the President of the USA has managed to align the interests of his nation with the murderous, genocidal, ethnic cleansing, child-murdering Assad. Just as well he can huff and puff but has next to zero influence over events.
Chamberlain’s appeasement bought us time. He has, with hindsight, been judged as weak, but Britain wasn’t really geared up for a war in 1939 (although a chap called Churchill had been predicting it for a few years). We had no obligation to interfere in the Sudetanland, an ethnically German area of the then Czechoslovakia. We didn’t have the resources to fight the Nazis and, to be honest, it was only the 21 mile stretch of water between Dover and Calais which saved us.
Largely correct…the ME is a region of almost NO economic importance (except for oil). (Tiny) Israel produces more than all of the surrounding countries put together; as long as the ethic/religious hatreds embroil the region, outside forces should stay out.
I don’t know who, specifically, you are talking about, but the most vocal on the right are McCain and Graham, and I know that Graham has talked about 10k or 20k “boots on the grounds” to work with the Iraqi forces and help with targeting. I’m not defending that or agreeing with it, just noting that a rant against “RW, Fox News” is hard to pin down and it’s best to argue about specific individuals and what they do or do not say.
:smack: Did you actually read the whole “New Yorker” humor page?

The President of the USA has aligned himself with his own self-interest, not with the murderous, genocidal, ethnic cleansing, child-murdering Assad. I do agree that Obama has next to zero influence over events. No one expects him to provide leadership in the area.
I don’t have a problem with us providing air support, training, and intelligence. Where IMHO Obama made a bad unforced error was in setting the mission to “degrade and ultimately destroy” ISIS. What if our regional partners prove incapable of doing this, and it emerges that the “destroy” part can’t be done without a major escalation of US involvement? In that case we either have to walk back the commitment Obama made or find ourselves roped into what would likely turn into a major quagmire.

In this case, everybody can see that the link clearly goes to " something-dot-com-slash HUMOR…"
Britain and France both had an obligation to Poland, which led us into the war sooner than would have suited us. Again, the pretext for the invasion was to protect ethnically German Poles.
I’ll take your word for it. Since you clearly believe you speak for everybody.
I pointed out that the linked article was “satire”. Just in case up_the_junction, or EvErYbOdY else hadn’t noticed that the article was “satire”. (I think I’m beginning to like this claiming-to-speak-for-everybody gimmick. It sounds so empowering. Slightly pompous, but still, oh soooo empowering.)
You are being ridiculous and really assuming the absolute worst stupidity of everyone in here by feeling the need to point out McCain isn’t actually calling for the bombing of soccer officials.
