Isn't anyone going to Pit the Denver Batman killer?

We were discussing what would happen with a real, effective national gun control law put in place. Perhaps you weren’t paying attention.

The LEOs I know are all firearms enthusiasts and believe in the right to own guns. Do you know any cops?

Yes, in the family too. Your point?
I believe, if you ask them, the cops you know would also say they believe in upholding the laws, even the ones they might personally disagree with. Now, what if the law changes? Which way do you think they’d go?

An AR-15 is a .223 rifle. There is no difference. I have no idea what you are talking about. The functionality is no different than an semi-auto rifle.

Honestly, I’m not sure. But I don’t think it’s a given that the majority of LEOs would enforce what they saw as an unconstitutional mandate.

And if they knock on my door? Well, my guns were lost in a boating accident. Can they prove otherwise? Will a judge issue blanket search warrants city by city?

I don’t believe so. Although the diameter of the bullets are very similar, that’s where the similarity ends. The AR-15 fires a .223 caliber center fire cartridge. The .22 fires a much smaller rim fire cartridge. Neither round will work in the other weapon.

The Ruger 10-22 is your average .22 plinking rifle that comes with a 10 shot clip. It is also one of the most easily modified rifles out there. Shoots the .22 rimfire cartridge.

Take a look at these images and then tell me, is it a .22 plinking rifle, or a so-called assault rifle? As usual the pro-gun control people on the board have no idea what they are really talking about.

So in your warped world this: http://www.americanhunter.org/ArticlePage.aspx?id=1964&cid=59

is the same as this: http://www.larrywillis.com/22%20Rimfire.html

I think we’ve entered Bizzaro Land.

Let me understand that the shooter in Aurora could have done just as much damage with a .22 pistol as he did with an AR-15 with a 100 round drum. I’m trying to get my brain around that. Help with an explanation.

Did you look at the images for the 10-22 I posted? The answer to your question is yes, you could do the same amount of damage with your .22 rimfire.

You can order 30 round clips, 100 round drums, and all the other goodies for your .22 plinking rifle. And yes, the functionality is the SAME. They are both semi-auto.

Pretty please would someone answer this?

Speaking for myself, I am not advocating the confiscation of weapons. The way I would attack the problem is heavy taxation on such weaponry. A tax of $1000 a year on every assault rifle may discourage a few individuals. Getting caught with one that hadn’t had the taxes paid would also carry a heavy fine.

Also, we can prohibit the manufacture of them in the first place. Manufacture of clips and drums of more than 10 rounds should also be illegal.

Just because the beast is out of the cage it doesn’t mean we have to feed it.

  1. Maybe, if needed to pass the bill.
  2. Sliding scale, like most crimes.
  3. Nobody is suggesting disarming la enforcement or the military.
    Satisfied?

Assault rifles are not legal.

I never said the rounds were interchangeable I just was pointing out that when rounded to the closet hundredth they are both .22. .220 and .223 both round to .22 therefore they are both .22
Just because two rounds are the same caliber that does not mean they are interchangeable. IIRC there are 4 different .38 rounds out there. None of these interchange but you can fire a .38 special in a .357 magnum.

You still have to answer the questions I raised in post 132.
Define the gun you want to ban/tax.
Do it in such a way it doesn’t interfere with ownership of a non assault weapon (what ever that is) ownership.
I’ll wait.

You are wrong. You get a little green stamp from the BATF and you can transfer a pre 1986 fully automatic rifle to a citizen in many states.

I have neither an MD nor a PHD, but I bet I’m right.

And I standby what I said about any bullshit reason the perp gives.

And I’ll add another speculation. He booby trapped his appartment in anticipation of being dead. But he chickened out and didn’t level a weapon at a police officer so he survived and was taken into custody. He then realized the cops would be upset (mildly put) with him if a number of their fellow officers were killed entering the apartment, so he warned them.

Just what a self-centered psychpath would do.

Almost, re #1, do you know how many ar15s are in the hands of US citizens? Do you know what one costs?

Why does that matter?

Well, some say the number is 10,000,000, and at $1000 each, thats quite a bill to pay.
