I, for one, haven’t seen any evidence of that.
Go thru my thread history. You can see that I’m a Democrat, but not a progressive one. Moderate Dems still exist you know. It seems like progressives think that because Hillary lost in 2008, that all DLC/Third Way-type Dems are gone.
I’m pro-choice, pro-environment, higher taxes on the rich, and for LGB and racial/ethnic minority rights. I simply eschew the SJW/post-colonial bit.
So I’m a Republican?
From time to time, you say so, but I don’t see you supporting any of those issues on the SDMB, I only see you criticizing Democrats. You hate at least two of the last three Democratic presidents. You stated in the OP that you’re not likely to vote for the Democratic nominee this year.
He certainly doesn’t belong in your party, but he doesn’t belong in mine either. That’s why a lot of Democrats who don’t share many of the party’s views are still registered that way and still consider themselves Democrats. Although if Derek lives in some areas there are Democratic politicians who share his views so he might not be totally disenfranchised. But at the Presidential level there really isn’t much going on for old-style Democrats.
You know, I don’t realy think that’s true, at least according to the standard definition of racism. The majority of Israelis don’t hate Arabs (although some do); instead, they believe that most Arabs hate them. That’s not so much racism as it is arguably-justified paranoia.
You can read my posts and threads and see the truth. But yes, I’m sad about the direction of my party and I really want to see it saved. It is moving a little too far to the left. Also, people don’t really debate the issues on which I do agree with Obama that much on this site. People also tend not to blog about which they think everything is fine.
And I never said I was unlikely to vote for the Dem nominee (unless its Bernie, but he’s not the likely nominee). I simply said I’m a potential swing voter unless the Democrats get their stuff together.
Your logic would call Bill Maher a Republican. He, like me, is liberal on most things, but he also can’t stand the Dem’s BS on Islamic terrorism and the left’s dishonor of Israel.
I agreed with the left on every issue, I would be on Daily Kos, not here.
Trump was right that we have to be fair. Our politicians’ suck up to Israel is cringeworthy.
Bullshit on Maher and Israel, unless you have a cite.
Everything you’ve posted about Obama and Israel has been as fact free and delusional as right wing radio, from what I can tell. You’re not against the Democrats in Israel, you’re against some fictional fantasy version of the Democrats that don’t exist in the real world.
plenty more about Bill Maher on the issue.
You can see my liberal stance on immigration, my positive take on Obama’s economic legacy, marijuana, and many others.
In case you didn’t know, while Obama does have high job approvals and favorability among Democrats, even 85% or 90% is not 100%.
What in this conflicts with Obama’s stances? Sounds pretty damn close to Obama’s own positions.
This has nothing to do with your (seemingly) delusional and mostly fact-free statements about Obama’s policy on Israel. Virtually all of your criticism of Obama on Israel and related issues has been straw-man attacks on a fantasy-world version of Obama, and have nothing to do with Obama’s actual policies and statements regarding Israel.
Obama doesn’t praise Israel security measure or Netanyahu like Bill Maher does, which is a pretty implicit denunciation of Obama’s view
Obama has praised Israel (and Netanyahu) tons of times. He’s also, at times, criticized or publicly expressed disagreement about certain policies of Israel (as has Maher, IIRC). There’s no implicit disagreement, since they mostly (or entirely) agree.
Your view of Obama’s policies and statements regarding Israel still seems to be fantasy-land stuff.
once again last night, Hillary stood with mainstream Democrats and mainstream AMERICA on Israel/Palestinians; Bolshevik Bernie stood with the fringes.
That’s a retarded poll question considering it reduces the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to a simple binary of “do you like the Israelis or the Palestinians more?”. Of course, Bernie Sanders declared his support for Israel since he is himself a Labour Zionist-he just thinks we should 1) consider the Palestinians and 2) that American national interests might not always coincide with that of the current Israeli government. America first!
As a side-note, I do wish Bernie had more of the Bolshevik within him. Imagine how much more votes he could get if he went about urging putting Martin Shkreli against the wall.
That is pretty much exactly the opposite of an unpatriotic statement.
You aren’t a Scoop Jackson Democrat, you are a Joe Lieberman “Democrat”.
actually I am a Scoop Jackson Dem; he was known for standing with Israel, and against evil things like Islamic terror and Communism, things I stand against too.
All that is descriptive of Obama as well. If anything, the biggest way Scoop Jackson differed from Obama is that the former was more strongly pro-labour and New Deal, while the latter (regrettably) has certain neoliberal tendencies as seen in his willingness to heel on SS for the adulation of the Moderate Hero Beltwayers.
Bill Clinton: 'I killed myself to give the Palestinians a state' - POLITICO well said Mr. President. This anti-Israel part of the left must be excised if I’m ever to vote for a Dem congressman or senator again. This element is toxic, and doesn’t only bring an anti-Semite worldview, but they also tend to have anti-capitalist and “anti-imperialist” (but only for Western countries) worldviews.
What happened here is precisely what I like about Clintonism and hate about Bolshevik Bernism.
You know, your devotion to Israel borders on the traitorous.
