It doesn't bring those two dead children back.

An update to this thread.

Tarajee Maynor to serve at least 12 and a half years in prison.

I’ll also note that her then-unborn child was given up for adoption. Here’s hoping that child never has to know what happened to his sister and brother.

Here’s hoping she won’t be capable of having more when she gets out.

It seems to me sterilization for people who kill their children is an appropriate punishment to fit the crime.

I think that, on the anniversary of the children’s death, she should be locked in a hot car for a few hours as a reminder.

Hmm…I was thinking more along the lines of letting her out after she hits menopause. 15 years seems about right.

She’s only 27. You could be looking at more than 25 years before she hits menopause.

Hell, she could go like the women in my family and not hit menopause until she’s nearing 60.

True. I was going by what I perceived to be average.

I was outraged when I first heard of this case. I think it’s just awful what happened to those kids and I agree that she should be punished for their deaths. But how can “they” justify barring her from the funerals? That’s not right, IMO. Cuff her, put her in shackles, make her wear a sign that says “It’s my fault you’re all here today” or something, whatever makes 'em happy. But saying she can’t go? They were still her kids. WTH?

I don’t think 12.5 years is nearly long enough. :frowning:

Respect for the dead? If I were killed by an act of selfishness and idiocy, I wouldn’t want the selfish idiot at my funeral.
But that’s just me. YMMV.

No, I know. :frowning: The whole thing just makes me sad all the way around. I was going to say that lots of people have killed their own kids by leaving them in hot cars, and that this is the first time I’ve heard of the parent being unable to attend the funeral (which is absolutely true), but she was convicted of second degree murder. I wouldn’t expect a random killer to be allowed at his victim’s funeral, after all.

I have a picture of my son on my desk here, and I’m looking at it trying to figure out how anyone could do that. I can’t imagine what it would feel like to lose him and I think I’m projecting how I think I would feel onto this person, which somehow makes me want to feel sorry for her. I think that’s where my last post came from, and I know I’m wrong. But she did this. And for that, I feel nothing but a deep sadness for those children.

Fuck her.

The probability of her being attacked, and possibly killed, at that funeral, is extremely high.

So, the authorities are right.

Aye. Please let it be a condition of parole! Please.

It appears she also had a fixation with giving her children names starting with the same letter of the alphabet. THERE’S the justification for sterilization right there!

I guess I’ll provide the unpopular opinion, but doesn’t the charge and sentence seem a bit hefty? Of course it’s a horrible case, but SECOND DEGREE MURDER strikes me as being the charge you levy against someone who kills the victim on purpose. Is there any evidence this woman was actually trying to kill her children? Do we not usually reserve the really long sentences for people who had murderous intent?

I’ve never heard of anyone getting 15-20 years for this sort of thing (I would assume her sentence is quite a bit longer than the 12.5 minimum) despite the fact that it happens dozens of times every summer. Why did this woman get such a long sentence?

You are not alone. I agree that the sentence, at max, might be a touch harsh. I don’t believe anyone can prove she was trying to kill her children as I believe she did not intend for them to die. She is just a bozo with a responsibility and common sense index below zero. My point is that she should never again be allowed supervision over any child in any capacity on any day.
