It happened again! (manager outsourced)

Several years ago, I mentioned on SD that I knew a manager of a group that was proud of outsourcing her entire group to India. Our company is huge into outsourcing and pushes/rewards managers for doing so (carrot and stick). This manager took it to heart and did so well she outsourced almost all of her group to India. She laid off her group and all was well (well, except for those poor schlubs in the unemployment line)

We went out for drinks after work and she was excited. Upper management was singing her praises and she was getting attention.

So…I asked…when are you going to India?

What? She said… What do you mean?

Well…your entire group is in India so when are you going?

I’m not, I will continue to work here.

Aren’t you worried upper managment may decide that your position might be better in India?

Oh Noes…I am too important.
Sure enough. A little more than a year later she was laid off and I still work with her replacement in India.

Today it just happened again. This one even higher up then the example above from a few years ago.

I think my theory is coming to pass. My theory is that there is no reason for outsourcing to stop at ‘grunts’. It will continue to eat up the food chain. Eventually it will stop below senior management where they will put a stop to it…but then when most of the company sans senior managment is not in the U.S. the company will decide to jettison senior management and replace it with ones from their own country.

It’s my theory and I’m stickin to it

Since this is the Pit…

You fuckin stupid idiot! Did you actually think you were immune to the forces you were toying with? Stop it already!

I hear that karma is big in India.

What kind of business does this company do?

The pool is not big and I’ve said things on this board I don’t want to get ID’d to me in the future :stuck_out_tongue:

Let’s just say it is technology/data related.

The key lesson is we should be outsourcing the management first. Think of the huge boon to productivity it would be if all our managers were exiled to the jungles Borneo, especially if they didn’t have access to e-mail.

I’ve been saying since they started this shit;

Once you outsource the entire company, we can lay your fat ass off and get a CEO in India for under $50k a year.

And the Indian CEO is likely to be more competent, too.

What an interesting story. I appreciate you sharing that with us. The pitting at the end was also adequate.

Thank you.

Proud of outsourcing jobs? i hope these type of managers end up sleeping on the street and eating worms out of dumpsters. All they care about is the almighty dollar rather than their fellow Americans.

Why should anyone care about the nationality of the person who gets the job? Don’t Indians need jobs as much as Americans?

My employer is based in the US, but has customers and suppliers throughout the world. We also have employees throughout the world, including in India.

Should somebody lose a job so others can be employed?

It’s ok if NEW jobs are created elsewhere. But that’s not the case here. Jobs are being taken away from some people and given to others.

By the same reasoning, it’s completely ok to starve my children if the food goes to feed hungry children in India. They also need to eat, after all. In what world does this make sense?

So you wouldn’t be upset if India was exporting jobs to America? If there are fewer jobs in America because jobs are being exported to India, Americans aren’t supposed to be concerned about that? When the guy next door is out of work and his family in danger of eviction, that’s a lot more important to me than someone on the other side of the world not having a job. It isn’t reasonable to expect people not to care about what’s happening in their own backyards.

Why?

Well, these days it’s be hard for them to be less competent, wouldn’t it?

Plus its not like they can outsource it to…Nepal, or something

That was my reasoning, yes.

You’re welcome.

Thank you for sharing. In the joy of sharing I would like to share that my cat is black.
