I’d be interested in hearing about pchaos’s experiences in law school. How did you find the Langdellian system, pchaos?
If an ethical man had the truth they would share it with their fellow man.
Atheists are even proud that they have nothing to offer. They have nothing that resembles the truth. All they can do is throw rocks at the works of theists.
No, my position is that in order for a religion to be true to it’s foundations it must appeal to the mind, the heart, and the soul of man. Furthermore it needs to be inspired by the Holy Spirit.
If the religion believes that it has the truth, it must be bold enough to say so, and must be willing to share it’s belief with mankind. Atheism is not a religion and it does not have the truth.
Give me a break guys, I spent a lot time in the game room during my first year of law school. Don’t follow my example. After my first year I took a year off because I wasn’t getting any better at Missile Command and PacMan.
And to be truthful I didn’t like the constant competition that you faced each and every day.
In my Legal Research class my professor gave us a research assignment. Two days later I went to class to start working on the assignment. And can you believe how unethical the guys in my class were. Books we needed for the research assignment were hidden in unexpected portions of the library.
Even worst than that I even found important pages torn from law books. Come on guys, be fair.
So unless you have that cutthroat competitive nature. Think twice about entering the profession.
Gosh, an atheism thread in GD. You’re not getting enough attention?
Wow, Paper Chase (1973) used that exact scenario in one of their episodes - art really is truth!
You are Rorschach from **Watchmen **and I claim my five pounds!
You don’t need to be using me as an excuse. I Googled “pchaos” attorney -straight or whatever and everything I quoted was from the first however many results. You found out who he actually is and called him. And now everyone who reads this glorious clusterfuck of a thread is going to remember two idiots from it.
And for once I’m not one of them! I guess I should be thanking you.
How do you know that the atheists aren’t speaking the truth? Why must you throw rocks at our belief that the world is as it appears, and that no supreme being created it?
As far as offering, what exactly do you want that can’t be found here on earth with a little personal responsibility and application?
Why do you throw rocks at a man’s heart and his soul?
See, you guys just want to tear down and the theists get that. That’s why they ignore you.
How about doing the hard work of building something new. If not God, then the mind. Is that all you have to offer?
Theism isn’t hard work. It’s lazy stupidity asserted via fiat.
Rational thinkers have given us science (of course some scientists are theists, but their theism is worthless to their science ability). Which is much more than religion has ever done.
What?? That (which I bolded) makes no sense AT all. The whole reply is really along the lines of the “I know you are but what am I” schtick that grade-schoolers used to say.
I’m not tearing anything down by saying that I don’t believe there is a god, and that I think the biggest, most amazing miracle of all is that our world just came about by accident, as it were.
I’m not out there telling other people what they can and can’t do with their love, their bodies, their minds. If you want to spend your days studying a ancient book and treat it as The Truth, that’s fine by me. Your truth is not MY truth, and my belief (that I never speak of unless directly prodded to do so) that you are deluded is just that - mine. Butt out.
If religion brings you peace - have at. Just do it quietly.
I’ll be over here looking at the beautiful world around me, and marveling at its wonders.
For some people, including me, yes. I have a cellphone, but no landline. I block my number from caller ID. Anytime I give my number to someone, I explain how important my privacy is to me. When my phone rings, I know it’s someone I know.
A few years ago a friend gave my number to someone, thinking I’d be OK with it. I wasn’t OK with it and haven’t spoken to her since.
Of course, my number isn’t posted anywhere online.

I’m sorry… mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, history, archaeology, astronomy, paleontology, seismology and meteorology aren’t enough for you?
What do you want, an aqueduct?
I can’t follow any of this.
You realize there are false religions, right? Each one of 'em a religion that “does not have the truth” – but which incorrectly “believes that it has the truth,” and which is "willing to share it’s [sic] belief with mankind."
To me, it’s irrelevant whether those religions in general – including yours in particular – have appeal; the question is whether they happen to be true or false. (And I’m not terribly interested in claims of being inspired by the Holy Spirit; if someone says your religion isn’t, and you reply that it is, and they say “nuh-uh,” and you say “yuh-huh,” I don’t see anything useful going on; there’s no tiebreaker.)
So where do false – but appealing – religions fit into your framework? How do you figure they stack up against the beliefs of equally sincere atheists?

The all-important word you’re omitting is “some”.
Look, some atheists believe they have big important things to say about ethical truths, which they loudly share; some of them offer Philosophy X, and some offer a very different Philosophy Y, and some offer Philosophy Z – and, sure, for the sake of argument, some other atheists don’t offer much of anything. So what?
All they have in common is a lack of belief in a deity; they’re not otherwise monolithic. (Much like theists: some follow a religion that preaches violence, some follow a religion that preaches nonviolence; some follow a religion with dietary taboos, some don’t; some condemn, and some condone, homosexual activity; some refuse blood transfusions, some abstain from alcohol, some perform ritual sacrifices. All they have in common is, y’know, theism.)
I’d just like it if pchaos explained how the deity he worships was created.
What say you, pchaos? How did your “god” come to be? It’s a simple question.
Also, what differentiates the deity of your particular religion from Thor, or Zeus, or Ra? Why is your religion superior?
Had he actually attended any decent academia, he would have found plenty of atheists there, so no wonder he hasn’t been around any atheists. He probably isn’t aware that just over half of all scientists are atheists, and among leading scientists, there is hardly a theist to be found. He says atheists still are not doing much.
You know when I was reading from AClockworkMelon’s post #456, “An Offshoot of First Ammendment—Freedom to Post”—call me weak—I actually felt sorry for him to realize he can’t even fit in on a forum that collects baseball memorabilia for crying out loud, and just as here, comes up with some off the wall unrelated shit there too. But this morning, that pity was soon gone again, when I see he was at it on GD this morning repeating the same level of stupidity he is already known for. I do give him credit for lasting this long, but the fact that he likes getting his nose rubbed into shit and to be coming back for more isn’t anything to write home about.
I’m really surprised the dumbass got off with just another warning on GD, but tomndebb still shut his latest thread down early. He obviously has a serious personality or other mental disorder. I have a cousin very similar to him, and he’s as incorrigible as pchaos, every bit as stupid on the most basic stuff, and you never know what is going to come out of his mouth, but yet he actually has a master’s degree. There are plenty of educated idiots out there. Whether pchaos is just an idiot or an educated idiot, I dunno, nor care anymore. He’s obviously mental, so I’m done with him, and won’t speak directly to him, but around him.
If appeal makes things true, you’d be wasting your time preaching to anyone about your favourite religion - you should just leave them alone to choose what appeals to them.
I’ve never known if habitual contrarians were misanthropes, drama queens, or socially handicapped, but one thing I’ve learned from this one is that contrarians seem chronically lonely. Only the worst kind of masochist would beg for this level of derision and condescension; I think this guy is just desperate for human interaction. It’s not funny; it’s tragic.
And you keep being told that we do not claim (unlike religions) to have “truth”. We merely don’t believe that you have any “truth”, either. Atheism isn’t a positive claim, it’s merely a non-acceptance of your claim. You keep trying to make “atheism” into a “religion” to compete with yours. It isn’t, and can’t be such.
This demonstrates you to be an idiot.
