Lieberman I understand. The Cynthia McKinney thing has me genuinely puzzled. Why did the moonbats turn against her?
It’s called “get away closer,” you fool! Joe is such a tease!
Lamant’s position was laid out in that editorial that rjung posted. I rebutted every single non-Iraq point, with cites. I freely admit that RJ supported the Iraq war. I didn’t see anyone respond to that rebuttal. What, exactly, do you think you’ve got anyway? What’s your evidence of him “sucking up” to Bush? All I’ve seen is the accuasation, with ZERO evidence.
I’ll be quite open with you.
My assignment as moderator of IMHO has required me to withdraw time from the two forums I generally frequented in the past. I am, by nature, a Pit denizen. Before I became a moderator, GD was my second choice, and you’ll find plenty of posts in there from me before last October.
I simply don’t have time to post in GD anymore; I can only read, and not as much of that as I used to. Otherwise, I would be right in there, along with the rest of the lefties, handing you your hat.
I’ll add my signature, in case it rings any bells.
Not one person, lefty or righty, even responded to the post I made analyziing Lamant’s statements about Lieberman, so I don’t know what “lefties” you’re talking about.
You think you’ve been rebutting things in that thread? I thought you just ran out of time. “He voted for Alito?” What a fucking dumbass response that was. I thought I was giving you credit for being too intelligent to honestly believe that, but if you’re sitting back with your thumbs hooked behind your suspenders and tilting your head at your GD performance, I have to say that you really know jack shit. Too sad.
Well, it’s pretty obvious you lefites want to just sit in her and wank each other off. Be my guest!
**RTFirefly ** had a good point regarding that, in any case, I see you are ignoring on purpose what my beef was with Lieberman’s support of the naked political ploy the republicans had with Terri Schiavo, it seems your memory has really failed; or does your security blanket breaks down if you realize that it was not just the Iraq war the reason of what happened today?
Because it is that important. The Iraq War is a debacle, from where we stand the possible outcomes range from the really, really bad to the catastrophic. If we’re lucky, its only a disaster. The men who led us into this feverswamp deserve repudiation, those who support them deserve repudiation.
There’s nothing here that “centrism” can help. There is no middle ground on this issue that requires a spokesman.
Because, clearly, their judgement is doubtful. And that would be the most generous assessment one can make: Bless his heart, he means well.
In that case, we should hold all people that coalesced to lead us here. Are you upset about the war and how we got here? Or are you using the war to bolster your “side”?
And don’t give me the shit about “Bush lied”. Every Senator and Representative had access to the same raw data. If they were spending more time on what they could do for their district in building up to the next election, then it seems they weren’t really into the gig to serve the country.
So, care to list those that “went along” that you’ll forever shun? And those that you’ll defend in voting for war, care to tell us why they should have any position of power if they were fooled by Bush? I mean, based on how he’s so imbecilic and childish, what kind of person could be fooled by that?
Don’t be like that, John! You’re freely invited to pitch in and lend a hand!
If you are being serious about this, then you are being an asshole. Multiple people, including myself, have responded to you with various observations and comments. All you’ve done is mindlessly chanted that Lieberman is being purged for supporting the war and being too close to Bush. You’ve tried to maul the term “Swiftboating” to be applied to Lieberman.
It’s not clear to me why you are being so oppositional and petulant. Perhaps if you would care to respond with a bit more thought to what others have countered your “observations” with, it might further your understanding of the matter.
Or you can be a puss about it and just cry that we are all wankers. Not very impressive political insight from a nominal third-party supporter type guy.
Jesus Christ! In retrospect, killing a vampire seems kind of easy. All you have to do there is cut its head off and drive a stake through its heart.
Willful ignorance is a bitch, and van Helsing was a pussy.
And some things never change.
That statement seems a little premature. Shouldn’t you wait for the publication of phase II of the Senate Committee’s investigation into misuse of pre-war intelligence? It ought to be out in eight, ten years Tops!
Don’t think so, I remember the few Democrats on the intelligence committee had serious doubts and noticed the contradictory evidence on the way to the Iraq war, but since most of it was secret, they could not even discuss it with their fellow congressmen. Unlike Republicans in the white house that did blow the cover of spies, Democrats did think of country before party.
I think you can count with the fingers on one hand, the republicans that had doubts (but still voted in favor of war), other dopers already mentioned that almost half of the democrats did not go along.
Lieberman loses:

Wow. I can’t believe he lost, not with Fox News behind him 100%.
And the people who recognized at the time that the Emperor wore no clothes should be treated as gods. It’s true.
I agree that Lieberman didn’t seem to like it. But for what purpose would Bush use this as a ploy? I wouldn’t think he would want to cost Lieberman any votes. No Republican had a chance in Connecticut and Lieberman voted across party lines…to put it mildly.
I haven’t been listening to what Lieberman’s opposition has had to say about him in order to form my opinion. I’ve been watching what his votes tell me about his thinking over a period of time. He has become part of the problem.
A bit extravagant, perhaps, but well deserved.
Oh, wot a pity . . .
