It Only Took 22 Years, But I Did It!

Well, almost.

But I just wanted to post my squee that after 22 years, I’ve finally finished all my requirements for my bachelor’s degree. The official grades are posted today, then I can request the official transcripts to be transferred to my university, and then I get my diploma in August.

And to add to the nice, I was able to finish my final course with an A, in spite of having a combination death rattle of laryngitis, pharyingitis and tonsillitis with a touch of sinus infection and no voice for the past 2 weeks or so.

Of course, nothing’s over until the diploma arrives in the mail - but omg, what a relief. I’ve had this one course hanging over my head for the past 3 years - unable to afford to take it. But a couple of angels (like my bf and mother) stepped in to help with that. So very, very glad it’s done.

That, plus the fact that I put away all the clean clothes in my laundry basket before I went to sleep last night, made me a very happy camper when I woke up this morning.

If you’ve finished a task, big or small, that made you smile today, feel free to share! We’ll all have a universal “ahhhhhh!” moment.

I haven’t finished anything to make me say ahhhhhhhh… but CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU!

Good on you!

I’ll buy you a round at the next Charlotte Dopefest.

Is it bad to feel smug that I finished mine in only 19 years?

Congrats!

What’s so great about that? It usually takes most people 22 years to get a bachelor’s degree

Erm, I finished a week of Pole Camp last week. I’m taking pole dancing classes. I was the only woman in our class who attended all five days, both hours each day. It was like Stripper Boot Camp. The rest of the class averages 20 years younger than me, so I think I’m accomplishing something when I can get up there and spin around on a pole, while keeping up with the 20-somethings, and looking every bit as good as any of them. I’ll be 41 in two weeks.

It’s not as big a deal as finishing your degree, but for me, it’s an aahhhhhh moment.

Actually, I find that rather awesometastical!

Congratulations, melody. I’m impressed.

Congratulations! that takes determination! Good on you!

Congratulations. What was that last class about?

The last class was just a credit-filler, I had already taken all my required classes for my major, and there were no available classes for my minor.

So I took a course called "History through Culture and Film". It was a 5 week intensive course - 4 hours a night, 2 nights a week. Each night we watched a film set in the 18th or 19th century - like *Last of the Mohicans * or Amistad. We then compared what we had seen to first person accounts/articles we had read about what was going on historically in that time.

We also talked about the aspects/emphasis of the film. For example, when we watched the musical 1776, it was filmed in 1972 - 4 years before the 200th celebration. And we talked about what parts were emphasized maybe a little differently than if it had been made in the 1950s or the 1990s . . .

It was an interesting class, and I was able to watch 10 films I had never seen before. But after working 8 hours, and then being in class 4 hours and spending my off nights studying/writing papers made me one tired puppy!

It was very strange last night to have nothing i had to “do” for some kind of deadline.

That sounds like the kind of class I’d take for fun! Good for you! I took my first year of university in 1986, then went on to take a bunch of technical diplomas and certificates and stuff, but never finished my degree (I probably have the equivalent in all the other courses I’ve taken). If I’d known the the cost of university courses was going to increase by, what, a billion percent, I might have finished it then.

My own Ah! moment? I almost have my new garden path levelled. I still have a few other things to do before it’s ready for gravelling and pavers (I just realized that the enclosed bed has to get, well, enclosed before the path is finished), but the major gruntwork is almost done.

Congratulations!

It was my intention to create a container garden on the back patio this year - but I’m thinking I might save that for a fall project. The 90+ degree heat around here these past several weeks would have caused me much watering consternation, I fear.

Good job, do you have another couple of decades set aside for an MA?

Congrats!

Well, all right melodyharmonius! Go on with your bad self!

And now you can take credit for another small accomplishment: you’ve inspired me to buckle down and whittle some items off my to-do list today. I haven’t made much headway on work today, and was thinking of just calling it quits, but I want my “ahhhhhh!” moment, too!

:smack:

I should point out that there was an 11 year hiatus there between the last course and this - as well as a unique story about an incomplete grade, a retired professor, and a tibetan sabbatical.

I would love an MA or a PHD, but only if it meant I could be a fogey old professor teaching english while working on my novels.

So I’m thinking - finish the novels - get word-class fame - and then honorary degrees will follow . . . .

yay! I’m telling you - knowing that my laundry was put away, not just sitting clean in baskets was almost as exciting as knowing that my class grades posted today.

Don’t forget us little people! Congrats- way to go!

Dopers will never be the little people in my life. That’s a promise.
