It seems like...

…it’s become chore for the boards to actually create a post you just posted.

I know, I know, trust the CGI but I just posted something, non-cosmic of nature in MPSIMS and guess what, it never showed up.

My browser couldn’t find the page…

This seems to be increasing along with our fellow posters doing double posts because they think the topic or post never was recieved.

Umm, I love you all but something needs to be done.

That was a mixed up issue (OP) but here’s what it comes down to.

You post, wait forever only to find out that it’s not there OR you post be patient but not patient enough and you end up posting twice.

Hmmmm a problem.

Could it be that the board needs to be trimmed back again? I hate to say that because I hate to loose my old posts, reminds me of days gone past and growth or set backs I have had…

Looks like it’s time for vBulletin to release another update to me!

Or perhaps if half the bandwidth weren’t given over to the Admins downloading video clips from old Portugese hemorrhoid cream commercials…

Maybe it’s just a random glitch in the software? Most of the time, the Boards run great for me (also, most of the time I’m on at 1:00 AM), but every now and then it just seems to stop. And I’m not referring to the occasional times when it’s “closed down for maintenance”… mayhap it’s my ISP, mayhap it’s just one of those funky random thingies.

It is random, but we know what it is. Unfortunately.

Our server is running at its absolute limits and every now and again it just throws its hands up and thrashes around. So to speak.

The fix: we need a new server. Yesterday. Projected price tag for one big enough for our needs: 15K and up.

The reality: our techs are doing their best to baby along the server that we have. They’ve done a lot of work to try to keep that sort of incident from occuring, but at times of extreme stress on the system it’s bound to happen. Occasional slowdowns and timeouts are what we have to deal with.

Let me put it in perspective; Ed just informed me that last month the Reader site had just over 1 million page views. 900,000 of them were from the message board. I think that pretty much tells the story.

Really sorry for your inconvenience, we are a victim of our own success, dammit.

So, $15,000. divided by 10,000 members.

Where do I send my $1.50?

Tell you what! I’ll be a sport and send $3.00, subsidizing some poor newbie.

Seriously, for those of us who enjoy this board, why not just let us send in $5/$10/$25 etc. as we feel so inclined.

We would have a new server in a week or so.

This is a serious question/suggestion. Why can’t we do this?

Well, one problem I see is that, by my estimates, concrete would owe about $700.

Good idea, samclem!
Could a fund be set up that members could contribute to? I don’t have much to spare right now, but I can come up with five bucks, at least.

I know very little about financing web sites but with 900,000 views per month why aren’t there advertisements, banners etc. , on the board?

I’d happily put up with some ad.'s if it meant the board was making money out of it.

I’d be more than willing to send in a few bucks… but the problem is, if there isn’t enough money sent in, we get screwed.

We could hold an on line fundraiser!

I’ll pledge my $5

as far as a fund raiser goes, a cyber carwash probably wouldn’t go to well. How about a cyber kissing booth…no.
Cyber buy a date? Why not we get cyber wedding. Um, what could we do?

We can have one of those online strip shows. We’d need, what, a decent webcam?

Tech’ems, would you be willing to go through with that?

Naw, the camera adds ten pounds and as it stands I am trying to loose about 20 so…
