I’m attempting to do a deal through my erstwhile partner. We had a technology based company (geophysical) for many years together, but we’ve long since split the sheets. I still try to run as much business through her as I can, strictly as a friendship thing.
She headed up our sales effort, while I primarily provided the tech side. Now we’re trying to pull off a deal through her that involves a non-techno savvy proprietary owner of something we want. In order to conclude the deal, this guy has to be able to present the data to us on a workstation in another city we’ll soon (next week) travel to.
He’s enlisted the help of another guy who has the appropriate hardware and software, but who apparently doesn’t know much about it. So, he’s called my old partner a few times in the last couple of days to get answers to questions encountered in loading the data. She’s immediately called me, and I’ve provided answers.
The deal is cloaked at this point - they don’t know who they’re dealing with. So anyway, my old partner calls me again today, with what I hope is a last question. I answered it quickly, and then she hit me with, "So what am I supposed to tell this guy when he asks me how I happen to know all this stuff?
I don’t know - perhaps I’m warped, but that struck me as extremely funny.
Myabe you had to be there.
