Racist?
Well it’s finally coming out for XBox. I haven’t played it much, but definitely will when it’s comes out this month…, then go roam the streets around my town and kill some hookers, like all the cool kids do.
In an odd bit of synchronicity, after reading this thread I surfed over to Roger Ebert’s webpage, and read his review of Gus van Sant’s Columbine-inspired Elephant. I thought this passage was particularly interesting. A few days after the massacre, a reporter interviewed him trying to get a soundbite fixing the blame on The Basketball Diaries ( :rolleyes: ):
The interview, of course, never saw air. The news media loves to point fingers, but isn’t so keen when fingers are pointed back at them.
There’s been more then one attempt to blame school shootings on the Basketball Diaries. I remember it was mentioned in USA Today after the second(?) shooting b/c it was the kid’s favorite movie. Apparently to become a psycho all you have to do is.

One question, though: So you get to kill Haitians, and you get to kill hookers, but do you get to kill Haitian hookers?

There should be a key in the upper right of the keyboard labeled numpad or something similar that turns a part of the regular keyboard into a number pad. Usually it like the o thru [ , the l thru ’ and the , thru / keys. They should be labeled on the front of the keys themselves. Otherwise, what kind of laptop?
There should also be a software keybord thingy under the accessibility tools stuff for people who are disabled and can’t use a keyboard so you might try that (cumbersome yes, but it’s a start).
As for the OP, I think the game is hateful to pedestrians, since all my car ever wants to do is drive down the sidewawlks.
And Cervaise; killing isn’t the only thing you can do with the hookers, Haitian or not.
Everyone is fair game. But why is everyone killing hookers? I love them; they’re good for my health. Cops, on the other hand…
After you kill them, you can get the money you paid them back.
If you want to play GTA (any version I know of) and only kill whites, or Asians, or blacks, or any other race or group, you can. Missions are optional, and you can collect weapons off the dead and/or with cheats. You can even get money without missions, simply by following your natural urges. Heh heh.
So the idiot quoted by the OP is, indeed, an idiot. There’s simply no way you can call it racist and maintain any semblance of connection with reality.
I like to go to Tower Records on my porn missions.
OMG. Every time I hear another evil review of this game, my desire for it goes up 10 fold.
The Vice City & GTA 3 collector edition went on sale earlier this week.
I would have just passed this idiot over, but that little “Shame on You” jingle really gives credit to the whole piece.
What I thought was odd was that (unless I missed something), they really didn’t hype the celebrities at all. I’ve seen plenty of commercials for VC, but it wasn’t until I beat all the missions and saw the credits that I realized who did the voices.
Just elbow them off? I get the urge to shoot them off with an assault rifle while the motorcycle is still moving and watch the bike skid to a stop. 
Wait. So does having ADD preclude you from reading books? Or does having ADD make you a psychotic killer?
Seriously. I hate it when people say things like that. It’s just so… ignorant.

I wasn’t saying either of those things. I was saying when kids don’t read now adays they blame it on something easy like ADD (just like blaming school shootings on games) instead of looking at the whole situation…At least I THINK that’s what I was thinking when I made that comment.

I’m sorry, I was a bit snarky, but it just pisses the hell out of me when people say things like that. I agree with you that people tend to find scapegoats instead of facing the facts, but you could have phrased it better.

Yeah, the Haitian gangs in Miami in the 1980’s were mostly choir boys and Eagle Scouts, horribly maligned by these misguided video game developers. They helped little old ladies across the street and picked up litter in neighborhood parks. Little Haiti is such a garden spot now that tourists from all over the world fly to Miami just to wonder at the success and riches that have grown up due to the groundwork these industrious youths made those years ago.
