At the moment I am a Grand Rapid… inier, but by the end of the year I shall be a Kalamazooer.
Off to work now-baby, it’s cold outside!
didn’t get as much done yesterday, despite 6 straight hours of work, as I’d hoped. Ah, well-it waits until Monday now!
have a good weekend, all.
egad! I’m up and dressed and it’s only 7:15am on a Saturday!
Gotta take the car in, got a hair appointment, gotta go do some chorus related stuff, gotta go to the bank (better do that before the hair appointment), gotta pull together stuff I need to send out, gotta organize what I’ll need for Thursday’s show because I won’t have a chance during the week, gotta pay some bills. So glad I have nothing to do tomorrow
mmmmm - leftover pizza for breakfast!! Idiot cat pestered me till I let her have a go at the plate - she licked it clean! Who knew she liked pizza leavin’s?? Bet I come home to cat puke.
It was 27 degrees F when I took Bernie out to water and fertilize the grass. BRRRRRRRRR! But it’s sunny and not windy, so that helped. I am glad I brought my plants in yesterday and put in the storm windows. It’s snug in the house, if cool for the kitty - apparently temps in the 60s are too cold for herself. She joined us in bed several times during the night.
So anyway, I’m off to play in clay. Happy Saturday, one and all!
Good morning y’all! I’ve been up a while. His majesty was fed in what was deemed an acceptable manner this morning so no threats of flogging the staff ensued. I’ve had coffee. I need some food. I’m by myself. I also need to go to the store. I’m out of milk and need a few other staples. Plenty of toilet paper though. Unlike some cool kids who I shall not name, there’s always plenty of toilet paper at the swampcave. I should go in and work for a while but that might not happen til tomorrow.
Oh and it was 36 degrees when I woke up. I turned the heat on in the cave. And it’s only November 4th!
Maggie woke me up at 7 this morning, so she could wet the frost. At least she did her business, and didn’t go into stare into space mode. I’m out of OJ, gotta go to Wally*World tonight after work. I still have to clip last week’s coupons, and clean litter boxes and paper piles.
swampy, I always keep a Sam’s pack of TP on hand, plus a couple of rolls in the survival pantry.
FCM, bet that kiln is gonna feel real good this weekend.
Yay that grandbaby is better!
And yay on the renter, rosie!
Can’t believe I forgot to say: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, FCD!!!
It’s allegedly 24 degrees Amerrkun outside. There was frost, so I believe it. But it’s supposed to get up to 50 and then gradually get warmer over the next few days.
I’m up and ready to clean house and do laundry. Also need to clean up in the garden, get something snacky together to take to my friend’s house this afternoon, and make a list of stuff to buy ::puts TP on the list::.
Happy Saturday!
GT
Morning, all! I’m glad you’re having fun with foodservice people, Mindfield. Maybe she was just concerned about your health. Are you sure you want butter with that?
I’m going to do some laundry, and then go Christmas shopping for the relatives we’ll (I hope) be seeing soon. And maybe for Mr. Lissar. Ssshhh! Don’t tell him. We’ll see. I might be able to find things for QD, too. Lots of people will be getting copies of Gilead- I’ll just buy lots from work. QD has already received it, so I’ve got to think of something else.
It’s Saturday already? Good thing I took yesterday off otherwise I’d not have noticed the passing of the weekend at all. Last night’s halleowe’en party was fab, loads of friends there and the band was “Doctor and the Medics”, one-hit wonders from the eighties who squeezed in their one hit and filled in with some excellent covers of artists like Billy Idol and AC/DC…much better than the usual Robbie Williams/Abba tribute bands they usually have.
Made it to bed in the small hours and then had one of those revelationary relationship conversations with 'im indoors. It’s weird having those conversations when he’s had two bottles of wine to my two glasses, and then wondering how much he’ll remember when he’s had time to sleep it off. Still, he seemed to have retained more than usual today. Got home at lunchtime to a very scathing look from Her Ladyship, we’d been away too long and she’d missed out on several fussing opportunities. Needless to say we’ve been making it up to her all afternoon.
Off out again soon, it’s a friend’s 50th birthday celebration tonight so about 30 of us are off to a Chinese buffet in Birmingham called Big Wok. Been there several times and always enjoy it, they have the cheesiest music and the most fantastic food. Afterwards we’ll probably get the train back home and call into our favourite hostelry on the way back to the house.
Sunday, I shall be mostly sleepin’.
doggio glad to see you’re sensible about having toilet paper. gt hope you meant you were planning to stock up. It’s important people!
I’ve been to the store, gone by work for a bit, had lunch and now I’m just lounging. When ACBG is through work today we’re going out to a local steakhouse that’s good. I also need to make something to take to a brunch tomorrow. It will be a sausage-cornbread casserole that has (surprise!) sausage and cornbread! It also has onions and cheese. It’s goooood especially in cooler weather.
Back from class with 13 new pieces. I’ll post pics before the day is out. Some of the glaze was kinda weird - that’s a problem with community glaze buckets - people do inadvertent mixing and oddness can result. Oh well…
I’m thinking I may clean the refrigerators today. And I may take **FCD ** out for a belated b-day dinner tonight since he didn’t wanna go out yesterday. Or we may go tomorrow - who knows??
Plus there’s laundry to be done and a carpet to vacuum and chocolate cake to be eaten. Busy busy busy!!
Yes! I want butter! Yeah, I’d prefer the low calorie trans-fat-free Becel stuff, but once in a while I can handle some honest-to-goodness butter. Besides, if I’ve resigned myself to eating their chili I have already made a conscious decision to disregard my health anyway.
My little rant may seem a little over the top but this is actually an ongoing thing with this particular branch. When they aren’t putting cream in my tea (yecch!!) when I asked for milk or making the wife’s coffee double-double when I asked for triple-triple or not paying attention when making either to realize the sugar dispenser is dispensing nothing, they’re spreading cream cheese on a bagel like it was butter (seriously, it’s cream cheese, lay it on!) or putting their ranch dressing on a chicken salad or forgetting to clean off the counter between sandwich makings, resulting in the bottom of my sandwich being crusted with donut glaze. (If you’ve never had a glazed sandwich, I don’t recommend it)
They’re almost as bad as the Taco Bell in the mall by me, but TB really takes the cake for horrifying food service.
One down, one to go. I just finished cleaning the fridge in the kitchen. Sadly, I had to toss over $26 worth of London broil that I’d forgotten I’d put in the drawer. I’d intended to cut it into smaller hunks, since there are just 2 of us dining most of the time. But I forgot it. It was an unlovely shade of brown, and I just knew if I opened the plastic, the odor would be vile. So I triple wrapped it in plastic bags and tossed it in the garbage can. <sigh> Fortunately, the pork loin, which I bought at the same time, was hermetically sealed and its sell-by date is more than a week away. I’ll be cutting it into meal-size chunks and freezing it before the day is out.
Then I have to attack the fridge in the garage. It’s been smelling rather funky of late, and I noticed a puddle in the back of the bottom shelf. Not sure what it is, although I know it’s not meat blood. But I’ll just empty it completely, wash it down, and put it back together. That should solve the funky smell issue.
Oh, and in the kitchen freezer, I found tons of bread. Apparently, I’ve been buying, freezing, and forgetting. I found one loaf from December last year. Plus several bags with 2 or 3 dried out slices left. All gone now. Lots of room in the freezer now. Yay!
I should have a staff to do these chores. I deserve it, dammit!
Stoopit housework…
Hey! A little bit of butter is better than a lot of margerine or other yellowy spreadable
Wheee! Dizzy! I’m glad I only have a short shift tonight, and a day off tomorrow. MY head huts and I’m dizzy and nauseous. I just took some Dramimine, I hope it helps.
Good afternoon all. I’ve been awake for hours, but just didn’t get a chance to post.
We are all leaving shortly to go visit MIL in the hospital. She called today to say that they may release her tomorrow. I know she’s hoping so.
After visiting with MIL, we’re going to stop at The Old Spaghetti Factory for an early dinner. After that, we’ll stop at the store to pick up a congratulatory card and some flowers, drop the kids off, and head to a neighbor’s party. It’s a party for his sweetie. I mentioned in an earlier post about why.
What I’d really like to do is lie down and take a long nap. It’s perfect napping weather; gray and rainy.
As far as the butter vs. “spread” or margarine thing; I’m a butter gal. I prefer unsalted. Call me weird, but that’s what I like.
It’s icky out thisaway today. 40 - ish, drizzly, windy… Bleh. I made a command decision that the HS football team can win their playoff game without me at 6 tonight. I’m staying in, making a nice spinach salad, some rotini with marinara and a nice merlot for the wife & meeself.
The Kid and some friends are coming by later to watch a movie yet to be decided on, so that ought to be um…something. Perhaps fun, but no doubt at least interesting.
When I disassembled the garage fridge, I found the area under the crisper drawers was a sea of a foul-smelling clear liquid. I have absolutely no idea where it came from, but it was nasty! I used a bunch of paper towels to sop it up, then washed up the rest. FCD cleaned the one mildewed shelf and I put it all back together. Then I took the sodas out of the cartons and set them on the shelves, along with my flavored waters. Once it was all back together and clean, I dumped some baking soda into a small bowl and set it in there. With luck, it will no longer smell funky.
We’re going out to eat at a new (for us) place tonight. We’ve got reservations for 6. My only concern is based on a review from 2 years ago - the diner complained about the place being smoky. Since then, Maryland has changed the law about smoking in restaurants, so maybe it won’t be bad. We shall see.
At least I don’t have to cook. So there’s that.
Things are fairly calm in the cat suite - Magic still hisses at the others if they get too close, but there have been no fights. I’m glad things went well - he’s a sweet baby and I would have hated to have to take him back.
Mr. SCL bought a watermelon when he got the pumpkins for Halloween, so I am full of watermelon. It seems kind of strange to be eating watermelon in November.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
That restaurant looks nice, FCM.
Hope you get undizzy soon, doggio.
Gilead’s been on my to-be-read list for a while. Maybe soon.
Home from friend’s and grocery shopping. Stopped at Trader Joe’s, where I raided the freezer section (fish, tamales, mango and peaches) and then at Marc’s (think Aldi with more brand-name items). Now I’m thinking about what to make this week. They were serving a nice lentil and rice salad at Trader Joe’s. It was made with a couple of pre-made ingredients, but didn’t seem all that hard to make from scratch.
I’m putting away laundry while my crab-stuffed flounder thaws. I’m going to make a salad and some rice (pilaf, maybe) and open a nice bottle of wine.
I’m also going to clean out and re-organize the pantries while I make the plan for the week. My lunches have been pretty boring lately, so I think I’ll come up with something more interesting than PB sandwiches.
I’m also a fan of unsalted butter. I acquired the taste for it in Germany and, even though American butter never tastes quite as good, unsalted is the closest.
Decided that I’ll work in the garden tomorrow, since it’s supposed to be nicer.
Off to be all tidy and productive.
