It was a dark and stormy morning - an MMP

The first round of editing is finished. Now I have to glean that set down to the album-able ones and then upload them all. Possibly tomorrow, for sure by Wednesday night

Evening, everyone. Prayers have already headed out for everyone who requested them.

Black Magic is lovely. He has a very intense stare. Whoo.
Home from work, and I get to go back in ten hours. w00t. And hang around all day trying not to kill people. I don’t want to work. Maybe I can contract a terrible case of Random Headache or something. Sigh. No, I shouldn’t.

That was cool! I think Corey “hooking you up” with his roomie was cool too.

I just got a several-minute rant from the boss on something I did wrong on “the Excel”. Only it wasn’t me who did it, and for some reason I find it terribly irritating that we have a dozen excel files that the whole group is supposed to use but she refers to all of them as “the excel” and if you ask “which excel” she answers “why, THE excel, of course!” I’ve already learned not to ask, since I end up being able to figure out which one she’s talking about from the context. At least the pay is good and I can spend half the day asleep at the laptop :stuck_out_tongue:

Somehow I can picture your boss, going on about “the Excel”, Nava. Does she always pick on you when something goes wrong with it? I can understand why you would be considering other opportunities.

I’m up. Getting ready to go into work VERY early to finish off dealing with the Excel and the Access. It is loads of fun. Yes this is the same stuff I’ve been struggling with for weeks. I think I’m closing in on the end of it, though. (Please please please pleeeeeeeeeeeease!)

SCL, that’s one gorgeous addition to the household! I love Cornish Rex cats, they have the most expressive faces.

I went to see some lovely kittens over the weekend, they’re here - the pic of Duracell is the one my friend’s having, he’ll be ready to leave his mum in about 3 weeks. The little bundle of gorgeousness in “Delicate” and “Snoozing” hasn’t yet got a home so if she’s still there in January, she might well be coming to live with us at Fortress Smid.

Tarra prayers and good thoughts headed out from south Jawja to your dad, Scott and Denise.

Taters prayers and good thoughts headed out to MIL this morning.

Taxi cheesecake is always acceptable. Cheesecake and ice cream even more so.

Snakes I’m jealous about Chef Lee’s. The cat… err… ummm… you should let him answer the door for the Trick or Treaters tonight. I’m sure he’s a sweetie but, ya know, he’s a little bit  in those pics.

Bobbio I knew those were the nuts you wanted to show. I remembered you have pee-can trees. So, did you get to play with your hose last night?

Today should be fun. First, I forgot to dress up for Hallowe’en. Ok, I was comin’ as a ghost, oh so original I know, but still I had a white sheet with eyes at the proper height for me to see out of but I forgot it. Oh well. Besides, I got tons o’ stuff to do here today. I met with the rubber car parts guy yesterday afternoon. We have the contract. Matter of fact, we’re starting it up today. He calls them rubber flanges. I call them round rubber thingys that need little rubber bits punched out of 'em. Well, y’all know how I am, always the one with all the technical terms.

Cute kitty!

I’m up for no good reason, bad dreams and a bit warm. Today’s my last class before San Diego.

I’ll probably try to get another 2 hours before my real day starts.

Don’t want to be at work in fifty minutes. Urk.

The kitties are cute, though.
Still would prefer to be in bed, thanks.
shambles off to hunt breakfast

Yeah, I pulled hose and dumped 3 loads last night. I wound up covered…

We did another pump exercise, this time with the Bugtussel station. I drew tanker duty once again, but they stuck me on the 1970s vintage Mack POS. The old warhorse has degraded to a joke. The sightglass on the side has darkened so you can’t tell how full it is, until the water comes squirting out the top. Of course, the intake and valve is right below the vent… After the first time, I had my turnout all zipped up and my helmet on. I’m not stooooopid.

Even though the Mack is mobile junk, by the time we finished last night, we got the fill time down to 5 minutes from the time the vehicle stopped to when we were moving again, including loading 3000 gallons. I was so proud

In contrast, the other tanker we have is semi-automated, with quick connect hoses. One person is needed outside to connect (takes 2 for the Mack), while the driver does the pumping from his seat. When that unit drops into the dump tank, you don’t even have to get out. Just pull up along side, flip a couple of switches to unload, and you’re roaring off for another load. The joke is you can run this one in a tux and not get it dirty.

Tonight, VWife and I are headed to the station to [del]rot kiddie’s teeth[/del] pass out candy, since we live in the boonies.

Another day, another few pennies in the guitar case. Work was unreasonably busy yesterday; I’d start to construct a response to a thread here only to be interrupted half a dozen times before I’ve said what I intended to say, which probably didn’t come out the way I’d originally envisioned it because my train of thought got derailed so often I’m considering getting it fitted with off-road tires. With any luck things will be a tad quieter today. [insert superstitious warding gesture of your choice here]

Got me a nice salad for breakfast. I was going to pick a nice creamy Caesar dressing until I read the nutritional information on the back, which stated in no uncertain terms that there were 90 calories per 15ml of dressing. Let’s see … 90 calories per 15ml, there’s 42ml in a packet, which is 252 calories per packet, times 3 packets (it’s a large salad), that’s … 756 calories. For a bloody salad dressing. Jebus! Why don’t I just drink a pint of olive oil and be done with it? I opted for the “lite” Caesar, which is only 98 calories per packet. Never tried it before so we’ll see if it’s any good.

A few drops of rain spatter this morning but very comfortable temperatures. Supposed to hit 17°C today – wee! Okay, there’s supposed to be rain, too, but still. Tomorrow and for the foreseeable future it’s going to be pretty chilly so I gotta take what I can get.

Snakes - Black Magic is cute. Exotic looking in a vaguely goofy sort of way, but that’s part of his charm.

Nava - I think there must be some kind of corollary to the “teachers” rule that reads, “Those who can, do. Those who can’t, get promoted.” Very few managers/supervisors/bosses/whatever have working knowledge of what those under them actually do. They all seem to have this general idea but couldn’t explain how it’s done, and with that dangerously thin veil of understanding develop ways to do the job that show those who are to do it that he has absolutely no idea. But I’m not bitter…

<snerk>

**HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! **

Nice nuts, bobbio!

Nice rubbers, swampy

Good vibes going out to taxi and tatermom and everyone who needs them.

Those Maine kitties are so keeee-ute! My POLC looks very much like one even though she’s just your garden-variety Domestic Long Hair. Mr. Anachi and I figured out over the weekend that she’s nearly 20 years old now.

I’m off to Cafe Society to the Heros thread.

Actually, just yesterday I was thinking that the way I feel about this job is the fault of several of my ex-bosses. See, for a couple years I had the kind of coworkers for whom I’d, I’d, I’d… I’d be willing to lift weights, there! And some bosses who knew what the job was about, who took responsibility for the choices they did themselves and who delegated very well.

I’m spoiled, I tell you. Spoiled!

Want some ice cream? I needed some last Sunday and went to the local supermarket (which opens on Sunday under the excuse of selling fresh bread), but the ice cream they had was pretty bad, so yesterday I went to another place and got some Belgian Chocolate Haagen-Dazs and some Milk Cream And Red Fruits. You sound like you can use some fruity goodness.

I’ve had much fruity goodness in my lifetime. Make of that what you will.

Off to do, ummm… sump’n… don’t feel like doin’ anything though.

The corporate world has too few such people in it – it’s usually either a pass-the-buck environment or a blame-the-underlings environment. Or an unholy mixture of both. I have actually worked with a few good guys though, but they never seemed to last, and were always replaced with idiots. I never understood that, and have determined that I was never meant to, either.

Funny you should say that – I usually pick up some fruit on my way to work, just for something to munch on, because otherwise I’m prone to munching on chips or something else that isn’t very good for me or kind to my diet. Today though I got a salad instead, so, yes … I could actually use some fruit.

My current job actually isn’t where my opinions of employers are directed though, thankfully. I’m fortunate enough to be working in a place where I’m trained to do what needs to be done and then just left to do it without someone looking over my shoulder all the time. I appreciate the trust they’ve placed in me to do my job well and efficiently – that’s rare at my level. Consequently I’m much more comfortable and less stressed working here than at my previous job, which was nothing but stress. Hey, I get to surf the Dope on company time. That’s gotta be worth the price of admission!

I don’t do the ‘handing out candy at the door’ thing. I have a Wife and a Kid that enjoy that.

::humbug::

'K, back to work or something. Probably a fair amount of goofing off I suspect.

I’m lucky in my current job that my boss and even his boss have pretty good knowledge of what this job involves. There are plenty of other frustrations here (The $%#&* forecast has reared its extremely ugly head AGAIN today.), but management isn’t one of them. They’re very hands-off. As long as the work gets done, they stay out of the way (except to provide insight on how to do stuff 'cause I’m still new and there’s a lot I don’t know!) and even somewhat regularly say “Good job!” How cool is that??

Taters, I’ll keep your MIL in mind with her surgery as I’m headed to the hospital tomorrow. Even with the time difference between here and there, I think you’re going to be leaving for the hospital earlier than I am! That’s early!

I’m very bah-humbug about Halloween too, mbg. I don’t like little kiddies so I avoid all places where they might be looking for their next sugar high. And I can never come up with costume ideas so I avoid places where adults dress up. So basically, I sit at home with the lights out on Halloween. Fun.

BOO!!!
HA! HA! Skeered ya!

I thought bears said “grrr” not “boo”

I don’t know why so many managers and boss-types understand that offers of congratulations or thanks or pats on the back work to their own advantage. I love it when that happens, and it doesn’t happen nearly as often as it should. My current job is like that though – the last time the middle manager came into my office to thank me for a job well done, it came with a small raise that was over and above my annual performance review. Just like that. It wasn’t a big raise – it amounted to the same amount I get during my performance reviews – but the gesture itself was worth more than the money attached to it. Consequently it’s given me the motivation to do even better at my job. I don’t know if that was an ulterior motive in offering the raise in the first place, but either way it’s been of benefit to the company just as much as me.
