itouch (4th gen) + Bluetooth question

So I got a new itouch and am having some difficulty trying to set the audio output. At different times I want to use: The headphone jack (to connect to my car stereo), The bluetooth output (to connect to my hearing aids), and the 'pod’s built in speakers (when I want to play games or to show music/videos to other people). When playing music a couple times a prompt to select audio output came up (bluetooth, headphones, or something else I forget what). It just came up at random a couple times, and I can’t figure out how to get this prompt whenever I want it. Does anyone know?

The other thing is, how do I lock the itouch when I’m playing music or videos? Especially videos, as my little niece likes to watch my music videos, but she touches the screen or pushes the buttons and the video stops playing. On my ipod classic, I could lock it so it still showed the video, but all the controls were disabled until you unlocked it. How do I do this with an itouch?

Finally, can anyone give me a short list of advantages/disadvantages to “jailbreaking” an itouch? I don’t think I’d want to do something that prevents me from using itunes. I don’t get the itunes haters, it has always done what I needed it to do (except sort my albums by album number ).

There is a blue box/triangle icon to the right of the play controls at the bottom of the screeen (in portrait mode, I didn’t check in landscape). Tapping this icon will bring up the option to play through the bluetooth or the headphone jack/internal speaker.

If there is no bluetooth connection, this icon will not be displayed.

Your hearing aids are bluetooth equipped? That is rad!

Thank you! I also figured out that if the bluetooth icon is not displayed I can go into my settings menu and reconnect. However, I’m still getting an issue where the itouch says it’s connected to the Bluetooth, and the audio output is going to bluetooth, but I am not getting anything. Not sure if this is an issue with the itouch or the bluetooth streamer. It doesn’t do this very often but it is annoying when it does happen.

It is pretty cool. You can link any bluetooth audio device to the hearing aids, no need for speakers, earbuds, etc. If the envorinment is a bit noisy, you can also shut off the external microphones on the hearing aids, so you can’t hear anything except the bluetooth input. It can also be linked to my cell phone, which makes a huge difference in clarity for me, plus the phone comes in both ears instead of just the one side.

Is there a way to lock my itouch while playing videos, and still have the video/audio playing? My classic could do this, but I can’t figure out how to do it with the itouch. The itouch locks after a min or so while playing music but not video. My little niece loves to watch the music videos, but she pushes the buttons accidentally and turns it off. I’d like to lock the pod/disable the controls and still let her watch the video.

I originally had problems with the Bluetooth staying connected to my car stereo. A firmware update to version 4.2.1 fixed it.
