iPod/iPhone v3.0...bluetooth?

I just loaded v3.0 of Apples OS to my iPod last night and haven’t had much chance to look at it. One thing I noticed is that several of the applications I previously had loaded on the thing seem to have disappeared. None of the one’s I use regularly though, so not that big a deal.

However, I thought I remembered reading that with this version the device would support Bluetooth devices now. If so, could someone tell me where you set it up? Just a quick run through would be appreciated…I’m not in a position to do much research atm, as I’m between flights on another long ass trip and won’t be at a hotel until late tonight.

Any help or info would be appreciated…even if the info is ‘well, they WERE going to put it in, but…’

Settings->General->Bluetooth.

There’s a slider to turn it on, and any devices you discover will be listed so you can connect.

Don’t think the Touch has it, though I’ve not updated mine.

Ok, thanks. Will try that when I get a sec to unpack my headset. My understanding is that the Touch is supposed to have it, depending on which model you have. Supposedly I have the correct model, but we’ll see. It would certainly make my life easier if I can use my BT headset instead of having to drag out the one I’m using now for the iPod.

One thing to keep in mind is that, once again, Apple implemented a broken version of the bluetooth protocols. You can play stereo music through a stereo bluetooth headset, and use it for phone calls (assuming you’re using an iPhone rather than an iTouch, of course), but you can’t fast forward or reverse. All you can do is stop and start.

Lame.

I have one of the first Touches (that’s touch-es as in plural, not touche-s). Mine I don’t believe has BT, but I saw on the upgrade page that second generation ones are supposed to.

The biggest obvious differences between the first and second generations is that the first gen has no external buttons for volume, and the first gen can’t play sounds (other than rudimentary clicks) unless you have the headphones connected. The second gen added external volume control buttons and can play music/speech through the built-in speaker.

Mine has those features and I was told it could do BT. I still haven’t managed to get my headset out of my carry on bag, but plan to give it a try tonight. Even if it doesn’t allow the forward and reverse features from my headset (which is odd), it would still be an improvement if it works.

Thanks everyone for the responses. If anyone else has anything to add, feel free.

Yeah, what the hell? Apple deserves a lot of angry mail about this one. It’s so stupid! Part of the point of having a wireless headset is so you don’t have to be constantly pulling your device out of you pocket/bag, and pressing multiple buttons just to change a track.

Well, FWIW, I got it working…eventually. It was strange…it didn’t seem to want to accept the association. Then, even after it was connected I had it simply go to unconnected in mid-song several times. However, 6th or 7th time was the charm and the association seems to be holding so far.

The only thing the headset seems to be able to do is regulate the volume…nothing else seems to work (i.e. forward, reverse, play, pause, etc). That does seem odd, but maybe they will patch the software at some point. I’m thrilled I can finally use my stereo headset with the thing.

Anyway, thanks everyone for all the help. Appreciated.

The theory I’ve heard is that Apple is working on their own, proprietary, bluetooth stereo headset. Want to control your music over bluetooth? Buy the Apple Bluetooth Headset.
