It's A Bouncing Baby...Gallbladder

Ugh.

Two days of quesy stomach (worse after I eat - particularly anything rich), sharp pain up under my right rib cage like someone was sticking a rusty ice pick in my chest, and belching enough to inflate the Hindenburg and I’ve just been told from the lucsious Dr. Margaret (yes, I have a woman doctor and I LOVE her) that it is probably my gallbladder and it is only going to get worse if I don’t have it tended to.

Ultra sound tomorrow to confirm her fears and then scheduled for a laproscopic snip snip snip. At least they don’t cut you from pillar to post like they used to.

Merry Christmas to me.

If it’s any consolation, I had the same surgery done 5 years ago, and for me, the worst part of recovery was that I had to sleep on a recliner for 2 or 3 nights because I wasn’t comfortable lying flat. Surgery was Thursday, and I probably could have gone back to work on Tues, but I decided to be a slacker and take the whole week off. And I can barely see 2 of the 4 incisions.

No surgery is fun, but it’s not all that awful.

Ho ho ho to you!

Sorry to hear your news. Sending supporting thoughts your way.

I hear this surgery is considered to be minor anymore, hopefully you’ll have a low recovery time.

I had it done about ten years ago, and it was a breeze. One overnight stay in the hospital, some minor pain which ibuprofen took care of, and then back to work full-time in about a week and a half. I can’t even see the tiny scars anymore. The surgery took care of my chronic indigestion, belching and discomfort.

My only advice is to stock up now on some soft, semi-liquid food for consumption the first couple of days you’re home from the hospital. They’re going to only let you have jello and broth after you wake up, and it’s a good idea to continue this type of diet for a couple of days. I ate pudding cups, yogurt, soft-boiled eggs, etc. for two or three days before getting back to the pizza and hamburgers.
