It's a matter of taste in the MMP

It’s a good thing that we all like different things, right? Else we’d run short of one and have too much of another, right?

Yeah, pretty deep and profound. I’ll say more on the topic in another post.

Today is starting with 69 Ferrets on the way into the 90s with t-boomers promised. I’ll try to get some yard work done if I can. Or not. We’ll see.

Happy Moanday!!

First! It’s good to be juvenile!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and almost caffeinated thus not real yawny. ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 91 with possible rain/tstorms/apocalypse later this mornin’ and then cloudy. The big item on today’s agenda is a doc appointment at 10:45. No vampire today, so at least I don’t have to fast. This is just a regular PCP visit. Outside of that, RDOS sloth shall prevail. Due to a gnawin’ and a cravin’, sup will be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit.

I shall ponder the OP and pontificate upon it later.

Now I shall finish caffeine and feed rumbly tummy. Then I suppose I must purtify and don attire acceptable to see one’s PCP.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

Good morning!

School is finally out for me. I’m currently relaxing in my chair with my poodle. To be honest, though, that’s only because my mom is still asleep. So, yes, we are finally back home after our plumbing excitement. Between the repairs and the hotel expenses, it was all about $15,000. That’s including ordered in food everyday because, obviously, at home we might have just ordered out once.

Speaking of the hotel room, we all survived the horrid beds and the scent of weed that was very, very strong in our room. Now, I don’t personally give a damn if you smoke weed or not. What I do dislike is being in a hotel that advertises itself as 100% smoke free where the smell of the air 75% of the time is a particular kind of smoke.

Now, this week or early next week will be the beginning of painting of the exterior of our home. Yay! Last week the foyer was painted. They didn’t do the greatest job and had to come back to touch things up. Today I have a dentist appointment, but before and after that I’m going to work on rearranging all of the things that got moved around. Oh, and I’ll bet you can never guess what color the foyer was painted! I think I mentioned before that they did not paint the stairs. Even so, it looks pretty good.

This topic was triggered when I remembered an evening spent with a high school friend some years after we were out of high school. Mary and I went to the then-new Harborplace in Baltimore and after having a nice dinner, we were sitting along the promenade doing some serious people-watching. And talking. And mostly just hanging out.

Mid-conversation, Mary stopped to admire (drool over) a guy walking by. I, on the other hand, paused and thought “Really? Him?” Not that there was anything grotesque about the guy - I just didn’t see whatever it was that Mary was captivated by. And undoubtedly she’d have reacted the same way if I’d pointed out someone who attracted me.

Another time, FCD and I were walking thru a furniture store and we both stopped at a living room set where the wood was painted silver and the upholstery was similarly unappealing. I’m sure someone somewhere would have swooned over it. We fought not to laugh aloud, lest we offend someone.

Surely some of you have had similar experiences? Do share…

It will be raining til approximately noon so I will stay in til then. Yesterday was the longest day of the year so its all downhill now. I wait forever for summer and I blink and its over.

@Paintcharge and whoever else wants their cat or dog to glow in the dark:

Back in the late 70s, there was a divergence in popular music: disco and punkish rock, and my best friend and I had dissimilar tastes. I loved the quirky rebellious punkish rock (the Police, the Pretenders, Talking Heads), and she went disco (BeeGees, ABBA). I couldn’t see the appeal of the cutesy glitzy stuff she liked, and she distrusted the gritty nature of the music I liked. I’ve come to enjoy the BeeGees and ABBA after several decades, though.

Today’s agenda: get a haircut and go to the local stone fruit orchard to see if there are any cherries and apricots left. If not, there should be plenty of peaches, nectarines, and pluots by now. I may make a peach galette in the next few days.

Tomorrow’s agenda: get another MRI of my head, as ordered by my doctor. I complained to her of more tinnitus, hyperacusis, and ear pressure and of an episode of vertigo and vomiting, so she wants me to get another MRI. Between seeing her and waiting for this MRI appointment, I had another bout of the same symptoms. I’m pretty much convinced it’s Meniere’s Disease, so I’d be surprised if the MRI will show anything, but whatever. All I can do for Meniere’s Disease is do a low sodium diet and maybe get prescribed diuretics.

In an MMP thread awhile back, JanetheCane asked about a dahlia I had planted from a tuber and to update her on how it’s going. It’s starting to bloom and it’s very pretty. There are two open flowers and a good dozen or more buds on the way. The flowers are peach, pink and yellow, and the petals are all twisty, hence the variety’s name: “Labyrinth”. Here’s a link to the Swan Island Dahlia Farm’s picture of Labyrinth. So far, so good for my dahlia experiment. Next year I think I’ll order another variety, and dig up the Labyrinth tuber at the end of the season and plant it again next year.

Maybe at first, but eventually people would stop producing another and start
producing one and we’d all be happy.
(Except the people who are never happy, of course)

The sun is up and shining through the clouds. The thermombulator says it’s 59 Ferrets out there, and later we’ll see 76 ferrets frolicking about. No rain is forecast, so I’ll probably open the windows after a while.

My left hearing aid is working this morning, so far. Mrs. Nott called the hearing folks, who said they sent her an email link. This stuff seems to happen in slo-mo.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 27c/80f with a predicted high of 28c/82f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Some people say this weather is fucking perfect. Those people are fucking ass clowns.” I agree, there are at least 7 more centipedes than I like, and at least 20 ferrets!

Most of the time, yes! Occasionally it would be nice if 'im indoors liked some of the same foods that I do but most of the time we manage ok. My taste in music means I am pretty much a polar opposite to any gym class instructor on the planet too (which is why I still do a bit of Rockfit now and then).

I was forced into an update to Windows 11 on my work laptop and so far it’s been very annoying. Things aren’t where they’re meant to be and I don’t much like where other bits have been moved to. I suppose I’ll get used to it, but at the moment, I’m grumpy!

It’s also far too hot for me. I’ve had to go outside already because I did the grocery shopping at lunchtime. I’m back in the house but I am officially hot and bothered. I’ve got a pile of things to do this afternoon as we’ve just released all the results for our final year students so they can graduate (or not) next month. Fingers crossed that Extremely Difficult Student decides to take the result she’s been offered and not make an appeal.

Now we have to write to non-graduating finalists and tell them why they aren’t graduating and what they need to do.

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 56F and sunny outside. It’ll be sunny all day, with a daytime high of 86F. Tomorrow’s high will be 89F, and on Wednesday, it’ll be 86F. We might have to bust out the AC.

I was always a rock-and-blues kind of gal, while a good many of my friends preferred disco and pop. I also liked a lot of classical stuff, even in my youth. I’ve learned to appreciate different songs in all kinds of music genres, though.

The weekend was really nice, and Zeus had a great time here. My son kept commenting on how much more relaxed he was, and how much more willing to play he was, too. I now have tufts of Great Pyrahnees’ hair all over the place, though.

We spent yesterday hanging out in the yard, and then retired to snark on a silly reality TV show. My son left later than intended, but I think he was happy to just relax.

I need to do some laundry today, but other than that, I don’t think I’ll be all that much. I’ll need to water all the posies, especially any container or potted plants, but that’ll be the extent of any yardwork.

It’s time for another cup of coffee. Please take care of yourselves!

I had never heard of pluots until this post. Might be worth hunting some down to try (I do not have any place to grow plants and am hopeless at keeping plants alive anyway).

Glad to hear he seems to be settling down and settling in.

Morning all. Slept in until nearly 8am today so feeling a bit lively, need to do the usual shop and sammich run here in a bit but hopefully will get back to a fairly normal schedule for the week. Rain is promised for the afternoon so any outside stuff needs to be done early. At least the temperature will only get to 80F or so but it’ll be in the 90’s by the weekend.

Sticky Buns, glad you are back home and I sympathize with the repair costs, my electrical and plumbing work came to around that much, albeit I was able to remain in my house during that work. I’ve got brickwork so outdoors painting is not an issue for me.

FCM, have to ponder a bit about your topic; oh, I agree with you that de gustibus non disputandum est (There is no disputing about taste") but I’ll have to think about a good example.

Lucky, hope the MRI can diagnose whatever is afflicting you, or at least point the Docs in the right way…

Knots, best luck with the hearing aid. May see my folks about another pop-off pod that I don’t think is stuck in my ear but best let the professionals tell me that.

boo fae, 80F is fairly cool for this time of year around the Southern USA so I wouln’t recommend visiting with either swampy or me in the summer…

Taters, so glad to hear Zeus is calmer now.

And time to head out into the great big world for shopping and sustenance. Y’all have a great week.

Good morning, all. I slept through my walking alarm… mostly. My bladder woke me up about five minutes later. I thought it was an hour earlier than it was and stumbled into the WC to do my business. On the way, I turned of the light in the closet, so it wouldn’t wake Mrs Magill. Coming out of the WC to wash my hands, I saw a half dressed, very confused Mrs Magill wondering why the hell I turned off the light on her. I confessed my bleary state, and started getting dressed for walking.

She harnessed up Chloé while I got my shoes on, and we stepped out. After half a mile, it started to rain a bit. I pulled out my phone and looked at the RADAR. There was a massive blob of yellow just to our west. I suggested we head back, and we made it just as the sky opened up.

Continuing the One Big Gift theme, Mrs Magill and the boys gave me a Lego Balrog set for Fathers’ Day.

She spent most of Saturday at the Barnes and Noble - she had several gift cards, and want to just spend a couple of hours doing nothing but drinking coffee and reading. She bought a couple of romance novels (her “Mindless Brain Candy”) and a copy of Becoming Nichole. This tells me she’s working on acceptance.

Yesterday, we did a Yoga in the Park event, which was fun. My mat is still a little damp and had grass clippings on it. I’ll need to clean it off before this afternoon. Fun fact: Balance work on grass is not easy. Also, all the fitness benefits of yoga can be easily counteracted by a gourmet doughnut shop across the street from the park.

I spend most of yesterday reading, “What the Hell Did I Just Read: a Novel of Cosmic Horror” by Jason Pargin, writing as David Wong. It’s the third of his “John Dies at the End” books. I’m enjoying it, but I think I preferred his second one better.

That’s how our tastes differ. I like comical fantasy novels and Ancient History, and Mrs Magill likes romance novels and general non-fiction.

Chloé wears one of these when we walk.

BooFae - I consider that perfect top-down weather, if only I still had a car that I could put the top down…

That is good to hear. I bet anxiety over his previous unstable living conditions were a big contribution to his rambunctious behavior. Kudos to you and your son for sticking it out and helping that poor pup.

I’m still waiting to hear back. I keep telling myself it’s no big deal if they won’t change it, but I think I might be lying. Don’t trust that girl. She’s got them shifty eyes.

I feel for the Tartan Army travelling to Miami this week.

Thank you, I was just thinking about you and dahlia yesterday. Mine is really surprising me, I had no idea they were such prolific bloomers. I’m probably going to get a couple more next spring. I wouldn’t have bought the first one if you hadn’t “suggested” it, so thank you.

Dang about still having those dizzy spells, they sound pretty horrible and I hope you find some relief somewhere.

Happy cake day!

I like the smell of weed but would object strongly if our motel room smelled of it. Dang about the repairs, hurray that you are almost finished. Purple would make your entrance too dark, I vote for a deep, rich burgundy or a bright, cheerful orange.

You have my sympathy. I know there are some folks who sit in their air conditioned homes thinking that 40c isn’t that bad, but ignorance, not arrogance is the problem there. We just aren’t used to making the mental calculations to F and will often just double it. 80F isn’t horrible even if you aren’t used to it. 104 is fucking hawt even if you ARE used to it, which you folks aren’t.

Will EDS lose financial aid when they graduate? Could that be the real problem here?

Zeus likes being part of a pack

I’m so glad you had such a good weekend with your son, may you have many more now that he lives so much closer.

So we are currently under a flood watch and it is supposed to rain and thunder but so far it has just been overcast and cool. Harry is still vowing revenge on his double-crossing brother who has now contacted me through one of his kids, asking me to do the paperwork so the commission stays in the family group.

Harry says I deserve much more than 3% ($348.00) for dealing with his double crossing ass and to be sure that I get a signed contract before picking up my pen. I don’t want to do anything to risk my relationship with Harry so was planning on turning the brother down, but Harry says that brother has to pay someone, it might as well be me.

They are pouring the concrete for the heated driveway today which sounds risky to me. Too much rain before it starts to set could be a Very Bad Thing. We are all low key looking forward to the next big snow storm so we can see how it works.

Something that happened to us when we had the insulation put in the attic was we both became insulation snobs and would make silent judgements on homes depending on the amount of snow left on the roofs after a storm. (More insulation, less heat loss = more snow on the ceiling because it isn’t melting from the bottom.)

Yesterday I pulled up a garlic bulb and it smells very garlicy but only had two cloves. I’m going to harvest today or tomorrow depending on the weather, and hope that the bulb I pulled was an outlier and the rest will be fine. I am suspecting that grow bags allowed the dirt to warm up too much when it needed to be freezing to develop proper cloves.

Back when I started doing Tai Chi, I was influenced by seeing folks doing in in parks so thought we should also hold class outside. That was not the greatest idea and we went back inside under the AC for the rest of the summer.

Well, I still have some stuff around the house that needs done before Wednesday so I’d best get to it. If I’m going to file the paperwork on that land sale, I need to do it before Wednesday as well. The place is empty, the owner has most of their money already and the only hurry about the paperwork is my impending inability to use a keyboard.

Maybe I’ll get to it after I finish the border section I started last night. If I put my thread in the closet, that will remind me that I can’t just sit and stitch again today.

As I’ve made clear here, and everywhere else, my passion is horses. There is a particular breed or two that most people thing is/are GORGEOUS, yet leave me cold. Good thing there are enough horse breeds for everyone to have a fave.

I have nothing planned for for today. It’s very nice outside after a day of rain yesterday. I will probably fritter the day away. I have no idea what is for lunch or dinner and I don’t care. I’m currently breakfasting on 2 poached eggs and a piece of toast. Nummy.

That works for products, perhaps, but what about career choices? If we all wanted to be surgeons, who would flip our burgers and sell us our coffee?? The horror, the horror!

I was on that kick for a while - a long while - but I got over it, at least for now. We’ll see if it emerges again. Mostly I quit because I’d read everything by my 2 or 3 favorite authors and none of the others grabbed me. So now it’s BritBox and tablet games for winding down.

I just spend at least 90 minutes, probably more, weeding a portion of the hill that we had landscaped last November. The crabgrass was taking over!! There’s also a lot of what I think is spurge weed - that’s pretty easy to pull up, but I needed to deploy a claw tool to break the crabgrass loose. I quit when my garden cart was full and the sun was no longer behind the trees. Had it remained shaded, I might still be out there. As it is, I’ll have another go at it tomorrow.

Meanwhile, I’m rehydrating and thinking about taking FCD out to lunch. Not sure what the rest of the day will hold, but we’ll figure it out as we go along.

Last night’s sleep was interrupted by an incredible thunderstorm that blew through around 2am. The lightning was so intense and constant and the high winds made a mess of things. My power kept flickering but stayed on (I’ll let doggio hog all the power outages) and I’m rather surprised there’s no tree limbs down in the yard. However there are widespread outages throughout the city and a lot of traffic lights are not functioning, so I’ll wait a bit before running today’s errands.

JtC good luck this week! I hope it goes well and check in with us when you’re up to it.

Sticky Buns glad you made it home - and I sure hope insurance covered most of those costs!

teelabrown I’m sorry that sounds absolutely miserable. I hope the doctor will finally try to start treating it, even if it’s “only” diuretics.

wet one Okay spill the beans - what’s the horse breed??

Happy Monday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Other than a couple of phone calls, it’s just messing around in the studio today.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Beets. The wife loves them. I can’t stand the smell of them cooking and think they taste like dirt, no matter how they’re prepared. I just don’t get it.

70s today and sunny, as is most of the week. Then we start heading into the 80s again, which means likely unstable weather.

Puzzled and exercised and nothing on the agenda that I’m aware of.

The activities director asked residents to fill out a questionnaire listing states lived in and if we’d mind giving a talk on one of them. I’ve lived in eight states and two territories and nine foreign countries (depending on your definition of “living”), so pick one.
