It's a matter of taste in the MMP

Beets do taste like dirt, which is why I like 'em.

We’ve gotten half an inch of rain in the last half hour and the flood watch is now upgraded to a warning. I just saw Harry trespassing on his brother’s new property, I think he’s on the back porch watching the river rise.

They didn’t pour the concrete after all, that was just a drill. They had everything ready for the truck but left about an hour ago.

While I was sprucing up the laundry nook, I noticed our dust-buster which had been unused for over a year and asked Hubs if there was any reason to keep it plugged in. He agreed that he hadn’t used it since we got the stick vacuum so it will go into our “donate” box so we get it out of the house.

Oh, how exciting, now our phones are going off with weather alerts. Hubs is out checking the generator, but I think he will be disappointed once again. We haven’t even gotten any flickers so far and it is really loud outside.

That’s my reaction to tilapia - it tastes like dirt. ick. But I lurves me some beets!

I think it took all of 3 minutes to replace the gasket on the drawer freezer. The video made it look quick and easy, and by golly it was!! Now to see if the frost-free feature of the freezer will work again.

Dishwasher is washing and we’re in chill mode. It’s clouding over but weather radar isn’t showing anything till late this afternoon - so who knows? I think I’m going to remain in the lazy mode for a while.

Happy Doperversary, teelabrown! :shortcake:

I don’t remember the last time I was able to post in an MMP on a Monday! Woo hoo! There are definitely things I should be doing, but my next meeting isn’t until 2pm and I’ve decided that I’m taking the next ~45 min off.

The rest of the day will be busy: I’m interviewing a project analyst candidate[1] at 3pm, then I have a hard stop at 4pm so I can get from the office to my old house in time for my 5pm move-out inspection. We’re supposed to get some big thunderstorms right around 5-6pm: I’m hoping the worst of it will hold off long enough for me to get back in the car after the walk-through. :crossed_fingers: Then it’ll be a 10-minute drive to the new house, where I’ll get to park in a garage and stay nice and dry!

Yesterday’s lunch with dad and bro went well. Traffic was only somewhat annoying (mostly just volume issues), and I made both drives in about an hour each; only 15-20 min longer than they should have been. Last night I finished building the Lego wolf, but I can’t access my preferred image host from work so I won’t be able to post a picture until later in the week.

A bit of catching up from yesterday before diving into this week’s posts:

I hadn’t even thought about that! Now I’ll double down my efforts to install the replacement, so that it’s in place before the cleaners come for the first time.

I’ll decide later.

Awww. :frowning: :people_hugging:

Then that’s the one I’ll build next. Thank you for helping me decide!!

That’s one of the sets I fixed on Saturday! It was the most badly broken of all of them, because I dropped it – on a hardwood floor – while trying to shrink-wrap it.

The last set that needs to be fixed is the Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters, which I’ll tackle this weekend (before I start Snoopy). It’s really big, but it broke in sections that seem to be easily reattached…we’ll see! I didn’t drop that one, it just wasn’t able to handle much movement.

  1. for a new position; not a replacement for the absconded project manager ↩︎

It was a helluva day. I got stuck loading on 100 Bottom Red/Middle Yellow. Until I had to go help clerk on the 300 slide, and they replaced me with some dude who wandered off at some point. So when I was done on the 300, the Sup sent me to help the lady loading top Green, except I had to finish my original sets, and she kept letting 100lbs. irregs go down to my set, so I had to drag them back up. Did I mention I was in a fan dead zone, and it was 80+ degrees in the building? Then I had to stack the 200 boxes of labels that came down the 100 Slide on pallets. The 200 boxes of temperature sensitive labels that management didn’t have a clue where they were going. After all that I felt like I had an entire Lent squeezed into one shift. I gassed up Carmen and did my Aldi run after that. Naptime, I think.

It would make it harder to express my irrational sports hatreds.

Good morning, and glad you all survived(even if your checking account did not).

:bottle_with_popping_cork: :shortcake: :partying_face:HAPPY DOPERVERSARY LUCKY!!! :shortcake: :bottle_with_popping_cork:

“Sod off, and take EDS with you!”

I saw a woman walking two Great Pyrahneese in the neighborhood once. I assume she had white carpet and furniture, and ran a street sweeper through the house twice a day.

Punk band name!

Unlike The Go-Gos, I do not have the beet. All yours.

Evenin’

Today I’m going to talk about living in ‘Denial’…

I wasn’t having a bad day today- it’s been overcast, not hot at all here, and stuff at irk is going OK for the most part. I’ve been working in a lab with a guy who’s pretty irritating, but he’s supposed to be off for the rest of the week, so I can get everything else done without being lectured every 5 minutes (normally for doing something I see him doing 5 minutes later). My doorbell camera informed me that the postie had been with a parcel I was waiting for.

Got home to find no parcel, and no note. If they didn’t get it through the letterbox, they always stick a note through the door saying where it is (normally the cardboard recycling bin), or a note saying where to come and collect if it needs signing for, but it appears today they did neither, just stood there looking at it for 30 seconds, ringing the doorbell, then walked off with it again…

Then I noticed that my neighbour, the one with the very barky dog, has had one of her sporadic attempts to hack back her tiny garden. She’s no gardener, so this just means chopping off all the branches of the shrubby stuff growing on the fence/shared boundary, most of which is actually growing on her side. That’s fine, it’s her place, now how I’d do it, but if it’s on her side she can do what she wants with it… but then she’s chucked all the branches over into mine. On top of the flower border, snapping some flowers. That is not OK. Anyway, I’ve chucked them back over the fence, let’s see if she comes round to complain about it.

Unlikely, US style financial aid ain’t really a thing over this side of the pond. England has a loan scheme instead (which is repaid from your wages when you earn over a certain amount and most people will never repay, but that’s another rant); grants, financial support and bursaries are generally piddling little things that just take the edge off, not something you can live on.

Not a fan of beets, but I do grow them, and the closely related chard, because the rainbow ones look so nice… I eat 'em sometimes.

I love pickled beets. I’ll eat beet prepared in other ways, but pickled beets with red beet eggs is one of my favorites

I love foggy weather, especially if there’s a forlorn foghorn in the distance.

So I’m not really liking this week’s weather - every day is a high of 34°C (93.2°F) and a low of (19°C (66.2°F). AC at work isn’t quite working as it should, but at least it doesn’t stink like it did last week.

And the AC at home? Swiss-style AC only. Get up early and open all the windows. As soon as the temperature outside is as warm as outside, close all exterior blinds and windows to keep the cool air inside. Go to work. Come home and sit in the dark.

Actually we sit outside and leave the cool air inside. It’s really dry, so not too many mosquitoes. I really feel sorry for the kids in school, because the schools don’t have AC.

My apprentice is loving this weather. She’s planning to go to the lake every day after work.

not only does fifa impact where i live. one of the teams stays at the hotel that is attached to my office building. brazil was here this weekend. it was a sea of yellow around the building on thurs. when they arrived.

i’m not sure who is at the hotel now. could be france…could be iraq… we heard a huge amount of sirens and looked out. the team is on the move to the linc., in the middle of a downpour.

they shut down the fan fest due to weather around 2pm. pubs and bars are going to overflow. we are in a severe thunderstorm warning for the next half hour. the severe thunderstorm watch goes to 9pm.

at home the fish tank is doing well. fish seem happy and koritza is not going near it. i don’t think she liked the taste of the water. the driftwood i have in it is releasing tannins, so it might have a bitter taste. the water parameters are good, so no worries there. the driftwood is from lake ontario.

Oh so you’re the one kicking off riots at the horse stables

All of you weirdos can keep all the beets - nothing covers up the dirt taste, can’t stand them. But I also think the same thing about raw celery - strong dirt flavor unless it’s been cooked down like in a soup.

I’m a bit frustrated. My regular vacuum cleaner is not doing a good job picking up cat litter from the hardwood floors, and it’s heavy and a PITA because I have to lift it up over every rug edge. So I tried a Shark stick vacuum and it does even worse! Not only is it leaving most cat litter behind, it only picks up on the forward push and then drags any remaining detritus into a little pile at the end of the back pull. Which you then have to swing around and try to pick up again on a forward push.

I don’t think I’m expecting miracles here - there’s not massive piles of cat litter everywhere, just those random small pieces that manage to escape any attempt at containment near the source. Off to do some research I guess…

Perfect answer! Here, this is yours :trophy:

I don’t know if we can hang on the same swingset anymore.

Those 2 are my top OMG … well, okay, along with anything palomino, and that super metallic breed … hang on, briefly forgot … Akhal-Teke.

(Yes, I was one of “those” horse obsessed little girls.)

The rest of you, talk amongst yourselves. Or have fun with image search, cuz I happen to think every horse breed in my post is beeeyyooootifulllll.

(And expensive AF.)

If you need assistance, uh, who you gonna call?? :musical_notes:

I know ezzactly which variety you mean, and grew it for precisely the same reason.

It’s so fun seeing the seedlings come up, since even as tiny babies they show their true colors.

Afternoon all. Watching the forecasts and the weather map allowed me to exercise and still get home before the storm started, so yay! me (and good for you this morning, Mollie). Raining and thundering right now and looks like it will continue for a couple hours, so inside is the place to be.

In all things in life there is balance…

JtC, so your associating with a bunch of land-grabbers and claim-jumpers, I see. And yeah, hope the contractors are following the weather forecasts… and sounds like today was a definite no-go.

Cookie, lived in 4 states and a foreign country so you have me beat. Interesting on which one they pick.

Oopsie, hope everything went according to schedule (except the thunderstorms).

doggio, I like working up a sweat at the gym, but you’re the champ when it comes to that.

Nut, not a nice neighbor!

Never ate a beet and probably never will.

rocky, sounds like you have World Cup Fever, whether you wanted it or not…glad fishies are doing well.

52, good luck on the vacuum issues. Have no love of shark products either.

And sounds like the rain shut down for a bit, so may run out and check the mail. Take care all.

I’ll have to investigate that for Bella. She’s going to be with us mid July for 4 days while daughter goes to NYC.

since the brother lives in Florida, he likely won’t mind. Will he let Harry use it, and maybe you too?

Everyone seems to love scallops and I don’t at all. I hadn’t had any in perhaps 10 or more years. We recently went to a Regions of France dinner and I thought I would try one; took one bite and didn’t eat any more of it. Just not something I enjoy at all. Although I’m with Dicey, I like pickled beets too.

Oopsie You’re very welcome; glad I could help out.

Meaning you’ve never eaten a Greek salad?

Went in to work and the printer stopped worked after about 50 minutes. Found a spring on the floor. Tried figuring out what was wrong but no go. Manager then tried figuring it out but also couldn’t; he thought it likely had something to do with the spring. So we called the Konica support #. Then the manager told me to finish my coffee and go home. I still had a touch more I could do without printing supporting documentation or scanning to be able to send to Finance Department so I punched out after only working 1-1/4 hrs. Manager let me know the printer was fixed this afternoon so I’ll have 5 days of transactions to record tomorrow.

Went to Kroger and picked up several items that were only on sale Sat-Mon. Also some Duke’s for daughter since I had to scrape the sides and bottom of her mayonnaise jar yesterday to put enough on the bun for my cheeseburger. To tell the truth I had Never heard of Duke’s before y’all were raving about it. When it was on sale last summer, I decided to try it. You all were right; it is very good!

Had to run to bathroom when got home. While sitting there, the doorbell rang several times. I couldn’t answer it. Luckily Hubs got up out of bed. First he thought that perhaps I had locked myself out; but if that had been the case I would have used the key secreted outside. It was the plumber. When we returned home yesterday, Hubs wanted to take a shower but the cold water handle wouldn’t turn. So, he called about 4 plumbers. Finally Mike of Mike’s Plumbing said he could come out this afternoon. Well he had another stop close to our house so he came over mid-morning. An hour and a half later Hubs was writing a ck for $585. Sheesh.

Measure around their chest behind the front legs to get an accurate size. (Monkey is an average size cat and does just fine with size Small - mentally adjust accordingly for your poochie.) The initial closing is Velcro and therefore adjustable for skinny/fat pets, but once the buckle clips on top (and there’s plenty of breathing space engineered into it) that sucker ain’t going anywhere.

Recharges on a charging line just like a phone, and there’s solid light & 2 different blinky/flashy settings if you really wanna annoy someone. Or amuse yourself.

The sky has just opened here, preceded by a windy blast that knocked one of my 'mater plants off its stand. I stood it back up and I’ll check the damage tomorrow, but I don’t think it broke the plant. It’s a real toad soaker, or as one of my old Navy friends put it - “like a cow peeing on a flat rock” - colorful, eh?

From the looks of radar, this could last a while, then ease a bit before powering up again. It may be a noisy night.

I decided to splurge and get BritBox premium, and that opened a whole bunch of documentaries available to me. I started watching one on the Plantagenets, and then skimmed thru the listings - lots of stuff I think I’ll enjoy. I never was much into history, but lately I find it really interesting.

In fact, I think I’ll find something to watch now.

Thanks for the mayo reminder, cat glove! Sis and BIL are coming over to help me with a couple of things Sunday and BIL said he’s hungry for chicken salad.

As far as beets go, I like them sliced and fried in butter, roasted and drizzled with olive oil, tolerate borsht, but dislike them pickled or Harvard beets.

Speaking of Harvard, I cruised around for a few minutes when i was out this afternoon and noticed that the street after Yale was Harvard and the following one Brown. I turned on Brown, so I’m not sure if they continued the Ivy League theme.

Howdy Y’all! I survived the doc. I sat in a room for almost thirty minutes for what amounted to a ten minute visit. I consoled myself by goin’ by the DQ and gettin’ Butterfinger Blizzards for OYKW and myself. He was happily surprised by the treat. The rest of the day has been spent in sloth, nappage, day drinkin’ and chowin’ down on majik intartoobz pizza and sallit. As to things that are a matter of taste, well, I am not a big fan of lobster. It has a strange taste and texture to me. If you invited me to your home and served me lobster, I would be polite and eat some and leave the rest for you to make into lobster sallit or whatever one does with leftover lobster. Also, if you invite me out to dinner, you can rest assured I will not order the lobster. Other seafood is OK, however. Go figure.

Sticky_Buns yay for skool bein’ out! School’s Out! Everybody sing! Glad you like the foyer color. OYKW just asked me why in hell this is currently playin’ on my 'puter.

Lucky Happy Doperversary! I hope you get an answer to whatever is goin’ on with you. At least if you know you can figure out what to do from there.

BooFae I agree with you re Windows. Why does stuff have to be changed and moved around. I am also grumpy when places like grocery stores do the same thing. They can all get off my lawn! I am sure many snowflakes will sob over the next few weeks when they find out they did not graduate. Appropriate/inappropriate appendages crossed that EDS takes the results and moves on.

Taters glad y’all had such a great weekend with your son. Snarkin’ at stoopid teevee is one of my favorite things to do. Glad Zeus had a good time as well.

MetalMouse you have earned at least a day of doin’ whatever you want to do. I guess that won’t include drivin’ a golf cart.

Mollie the Balrog Lego set looks way cool! Glad y’all got back home before the deluge.

JtC I say do the work and take the commission. Good for Harry to say his brother might as well pay you rather than anyone else. I like the term insulation snob. I picture hubs and you ever so slightly turnin’ up your noses and givin’ a polite sniff. Hope the garlic harvest is a good one. Hope the awful weather doesn’t effect y’all too much. EEK!

Cookie I mostly agree with you about beets. However, hot borscht with a glop of sour cream is good. I have also had a sallit made with beets, N.O.T.s, onions, aigs and probably other stuff (it’s been a while) that was also tasty. However, beets served by themselves are just nasty. Of course we all know my feelin’ towards fart blossoms.

Oopsie hope the interview and the final walk through go well. Also hope you don’t get caught in ick weather. Glad the lunch with your dad and bro went well and that traffic was lees annyoin’ than expected.

Nuts your neighbor should be chucked in a ditch and beset upon by the PSWSLS. I am not a yahd person, but would never chuck stuff over into a neighbor’s yahd. Hope you find out where your package is.

rocker you stay safe from the ick weather as well. Dang! This looks like a day for ick Mumper weather.

MOOOOOOM I will add you to the list of those to stay safe from the ick weather.

It is 64 and a north wind so I wore my winter jacket. Always better to overdress.
Went to Dunkin. Ordered hash browns ( extra points on Mondays). The girl puts a drink in front of me. She thought I’d ordered my usual ( small, 2 cream 2 stevia, 7 mocha). I took it, otherwise it wouldve been tossed.
A blessing.

Ms Peach is much too large for those lit up harnesses. She’s probably close to 25-30" around her chest, but only maybe 20" tall at the shoulder. My boss decided she’s a neutron star, small but very dense. In more than one sense of the word.

Since her adventure she’s been basically glued to my side.
