Laziness…and I don’t know how to do it on this thing…
But seriously…if a buttload of people think this protesting is a GOOD thing…well…why the hell aren’t they commenting how the Bengals are a bunch of racist assholes or something?
Are liberals afraid to comment on a yahoo article? Is Yahoo secretly Fox news only read by conservative assholes?
I’m seeing this a lot. At least once a week. Almost daily. There will be some article that is definitely pro liberal / anti Trump.
And most of the time for most of the articles…the comments are overwhelming in the opposite corner (anti liberal / pro Trump). And I don’t mean 60/40. I mean more like 95/5.
Which tells me the media is living in a bubble/echo chamber.
Try looking at the newest comments rather than the top comments. There’s a mix.
The top comments are only the most voted for. Of course the Right has to pack the ballot box to “win”.
I’m just telling you what I am seeing. You can interpret it or explain it anyway you want.
But note this. Reading around here you’d have gotten the impression that almost no one here would vote for Trump. Most posters here couldn’t even imagine someone important in their life voting for Trump.
Trump got about half the votes and actually won.
Echo chambers are a misleading and dangerous thing.
Or maybe liberals can’t even be bothered to vote on an online article comment.
Those comments are telling a story. Of course the details are messy. But that kind of hand waving dismissive shit is what cost the liberals this last election.
Well, that SnoBo for ya, right there! You know, that whole “throw shit in the quarry” thing is code for liquidating the industrial bourgeoisie by the proletariat under the leadership of the revolutionary cadres.
The irony is, of course, that you demand people give the National Anthem respect, yet you cannot treat a fellow American with any kind of civility (to say nothing of respect).
On the bright side, Christmas is coming so once Trump supporters get bored with being outraged about a fairly benign protest it’ll be time to be outraged over people saying “Happy Holidays!” to them.
I’m a veteran and I think this kind of peaceful protesting is in keeping with the highest traditions of patriotism and American history. Some of the most important and greatest patriots were spat upon and called un-American in their day – Frederick Douglass, Martin Luther King Jr., Vietnam War protesters, Jackie Robinson (who in his autobiography stated that he could not in good conscience stand for the flag and anthem any more) and many more. Their contributions to the country were far greater than many of those who called them un-American.
When I think about the struggles and trials of this country, including some events in my own military service history, I get choked up too. When I think about the fact that many Americans don’t see the country living up to its ideals in fair and equal treatment, that chokes me up and makes me angry. No supposed disrespect to a symbol can possibly come close to matching the dishonor and harm to the country that so many Americans still truly feel that they don’t have a fair and equal chance to succeed. People should be mad about this. If flag and anthem protests are what it takes to get people talking and thinking about it, then those protests are indeed an honorable form of patriotism.
If that bothers them they can just wear their America Uber Alles hats. Significantly fewer people should be inclined to offer Christmas salutations that way.
Personally I’ve got nothing against protesters in general but I am sick and tired of protesters ramming their protest agenda down the throats of decent hardworking Americans like me. I don’t care if they want to protest in the privacy of their own homes but it’s disgusting how they go around flaunting their protesting in public like it’s perfectly normal.
I am also a veteran and agree with this wholeheartedly. I wonder if any of the people who say “It disrespects veterans!” have actually asked any veterans if they feel disrespected?
