I use ICQ, and tend to switch it on during my lunch break and then leave it on while I work into the afternoon. It can be fun and I have had some interesting chats with people all over the world. The only pain with ICQ is the number of “Hi, I’m Stacey, my friends and I were playing around with our webcam and if you want to see the pics…” that you get. On a bad day, there is one every couple of minutes, but today - nothing…
Was it something I said???
Gp
i’ve never really used icq so I am curious. Is the “stacy” person real or is it just a ploy to get you to go to some pay porn site?
I spend a lot of time on ICQ and I rarely get the porn messages… not that I’m complaining, just curious as to how they’re distributed.
It’s a generic (and I’m assuming random) name with an equally generic message. Sometimes you get 3 messages that are the exact same except for the name. I have 50 different porn senders blocked right now.
I have at least a half dozen blocked myself. I’ve had a lot less ICQ porn spam since I started running in invisible mode all the time.
First things first: The messaging is the beauty of porn spam. They say “Hey there solomon. Here is some porn you might have otherwise missed out on.” To which I say “Why thank you for your consideration of my libidinous pursuits. I will gladly partake in your tasty porn.” Its a symbiotic relationship.
Second things second: You can block messages from people outside your buddy list in the options menu.
funny porn speech stolen from angst technology
Oh God… I have 117 people on my ignore list… at least two-thirds of which were porn spammers! (the others are people who I didn’t think would be compatible with me, or who mangled English to such a high degree that I wouldn’t understand them anyhow)
KKBattousai, I’ve noticed the same thing you have… definitely less since I’m running on invisible most of the time! (and that mode is great, since you get to pick and choose who you’re talking to)
The problem with invisible mode is that it also precludes random chats, where some of my most interesting conversations have started…
Gp
The best thing to do with spammers is just string them along until they become confused and/or scared. I’ve tried it myself but I haven’t come close to the genius of Lowtax over at Something Awful.
Amamrican Robot Lesbians is particularly relevant.
I always run in invisible mode nowadays too - when I bother to turn ICQ on at all, that is. I found the porn spam almost as annoying as telemarketing calls.
Mmmmm porn!
For your downloading pleasure, might I recommend Morphius’ “Gangbang Girls”, and “Kobe Tai”
have a nice day.
You know, I’ve never had those. There’s either a questionaire type deal I forgot to fill out or I’m just not interesting enough.
