You know, now that I think about it this was a pretty crappy episode.
Rachel: I knew it had to be Rachel at the end of last season it was pretty obvious to me. But then I did guess that it was Maggie that shot Mr. Burns. Anyway I felt it was obvious and we all spent the summer thinking about who was the father and they gave us nothing. No advancement on Rachel’s front.
Phoebe: She was only acting in response to the other characters, well character, Rachel. Nothing on her front.
Monica: She had almost no important part that I can recall. Nothing on her front.
Chandler: Took dancing lessons, has slippery shoes, can’t dance. Cute but not is that it? Nothing on his front.
Joey: Only funny part of the show, Joey being Joey and looking out for number 1 in his sweet kind of way. Ok.
Ross: These writers need to have Ross find himself again. They need to go back and watch all the episodes till he marries Emily, that’s when they lost him. Here he was ok. Playing nice nice for the pretty girl but I just didn’t feel they brought home the joke, it just kinda limped off. Marginal.
And the big reason we all watched, to see who was the baby’s father they gave us nothing. I feel like it was a great big TO BE CONTINUED and I hate those. Now some spoilers are nice not to know but this one bugs be me. And it’s not as if this is a great secret, they filmed the next two shows in front of a live audience and there are reports of them out there. Anyway I’m glad I know the father as I feel I can move on and begin considering the consequences and not remain stuck in the same place I was all summer. I think this show is more like a season finale then premiere.

Well, from what I had heard, People Magazine did an article and busted out who the father is. It’s Ross, supposedly. Anyone find this article? Sorry I can’t back it up - but I heard a lot of talk about it a few weeks ago. I’ll look around for it.
I’ve been saying it was Gunther too. My husband laughs at me everytime I say I hope it’s Gunther’s baby. He’s had a crush on Rachel since the first season and I’d like to see Gunther get lucky.
BTW, I laughed my butt off when Ross and Monica’s mother said Gunther would be on her list.
The answer is out there on the net. The show is shot in front of a live audience and both 802 and 803 have been shot. You just have to search for those spoilers. I’m not sure for how long it’s been there but if People did say that I doubt they’d be breaking any real news and they’d probably get flamed if they did say exactly who it was.
With that being said I think you’re referring to the revelation that we in 802 we learn that the father had left a red sweater at Rachel’s. I saw an article on this posted on E!
I think it would be better if the father was Tag, and he does the predictable thing and runs for the hills when he hears about it. And Ross and Rachel draw closer during the season because Ross genuinely wants to “be there” for her and help her out.
He’ll ask her to marry him in the episode when she gives birth (or she’ll ask him)… after she lets him name the baby … that is, unless “Survivor” causes the ratings to take a dive, in which case they’ll do it sooner.
Actually not a red herring as the next show is called “The one with the Red Seater.” Where this is revealed early on and then they let us guess whose sweater it is before revealing it towards the end. Hit the link and read the description from NBC.com

I will without a doubt be tuning in Thursday night. I know, the writers are manipulating and playing with my mind, but I don’t really care anymore.
One more random guy…Barry, as in Barry and Mindy Farber? Maybe Rachel overcame Barry’s habit of wearing socks during the “act” and decided to procreat with him?
Naw, in a shark jumping of unheard of proportions, Rachel is giving birth to God’s baby. It’s an immaculate conception. We won’t find out until sweeps, though.
Okay, I don’t have this on tape (anymore), so I can’t go back and check, but I could have sworn that Ross walked over to the kid’s table and said, “Hi Ben…hi kids…” The kid (Ben) just kinda looked at him, though. And I could swear that Ben was the ring-bearer, but I haven’t seen that episode since May.
I was bummed that Kathleen Turner wasn’t back to dance with Morgan Fairchild.
And I was also kind of put off by the little fat girl. I’m chubby also, and fat jokes, IMHO, aren’t all that funny.
That was so sweet of Joey. Aww. I can’t believe it was Ross!! Well, I can. But still. Awwww, man. I wonder if they will get married AGAIN when she tells him, but I’m guessing not because she doesn’t seem to want that. Man, Ross is going to be a father TWICE. I’m guessing Monica’s kind of steamed that Rachel’s stealing her thunder. Hey it’s all kind of fitting. Remember the episode when Chandler proposed, Rachel and Ross were going to do it- because Rachel wanted Monica to be jealous…and then she said something about announcing her pregnancy at her wedding. Or maybe that was Monica doing that…anywa.
You think they’ll show Mon and Chan’s honeymoon? I’m sort of wondering where they’re going.
