Friends 5-16 (will probably have spoilers)

Oh My GOD!

What happened? I totally missed the whole thing.

Ok…here come the spoilers…read at your own risk…

After the baby was born (little Emma), Ross and Rachel were both having feelings like they should be together forever. Ross said something to Rachel, though, that made it seem to her like he was not interested (even though he was). Phoebe talked Ross into following his feelings, and he bought some flowers to bring to Rachel and talk things out.

Meanwhile, Rachel is in the room talking with Joey, and she is afraid of being alone…Joey tells her as long as he’s around she’ll never be alone. Then, he goes over to Ross’ coat to get something under it, and an engagement ring (that Ross’ mom gave him to give to Rachel) falls out, Joey opens it, realizes that Ross migth propose, and turns around in shock with the case open.

Rachel see’s the ring, looks at Joey and says “Ok.”

As Ross gets ready to go in with his flowers and perhaps pop the question…then the show ends!

Darnit…typing too fast…I really didn’t mean to type “see’s.” Ouch. And of course, the typo on ‘might.’

Yeah it was so awkward. Imagine thinking someone has proposed…when they really really haven’t. Poor Rachel. But I’ve heard that this next season coming up will be the last, so…

Well, it makes sense. Because if Monica and Chandler have a baby…then it won’t be “Friends…with Benefits!” anymore, more like “Friends Who Have to Go Home Early to Take Care of the Infant.” And that’s no fun.

Man that was dumb. I was thinking that it could be a spontaneous thing, that Joey and Rachel’s feelings could come to a head and they decide to go it together, but now there’s no real tension, because, Joey knows he didn’t mean to propose, see?

Dumb dumb dumb.

Yes, but Joey is in love with Rachel and could decide to pretend that he proposed, making him the biggest ass on the planet.

See? See?

(Yeah, it is dumb.)

Oh brother…glad I didn’t watch it. They jumped the shark long ago, I’m afraid, and I used to LOVE this show. Now it’s too incestuous.

So Ross and Monica had sex?

They did? Damn, damn and double damn, I missed it.

Slee

Why does that make him an ass? He’s in love with her and he already DID propose to her once! She should totally pick him over Ross, who is a self-absorbed dumbass moron. Besides, I don’t think Ross would’ve gone through with it, he’s too chickenshit.

The whole thing with Monica and Chandler trying to have sex all over the hospital was totally gross too. They’re just a totally unpleasant couple.

Boy, from the sounds of it, I’m glad I went to the bar tonight…

“sex all over the hospital”??? Oy.
stv

I thought the revolving door of women in labor in Rache’s room was funny…and Janice showing up with her deaf husband…too funny.

The ending was not as big a cliffhanger as they’ve had in the past. What is Joey going to say, “Oh, yeah, I found this ring in Ross’ coat and Rachel thought I was proposing so that’s why we’re getting married.” Nope. Joey is too sweet and honest not to own up to it.

Phoebe and Cliff…it’s nice she might have someone, but I want David (Hank Azaria) to come back from Minsk…or maybe Charlie Sheen to retire from the Navy.

Because, he’s on his knees holding up the ring that he knows came from Ross’s jacket, so as far as Joey knows, Ross was going to propose to Rachel. And despite his feelings for Rachel (which he knows she doesn’t return), he should respect the fact that she and Ross now have a child together.

Oy, I think I’m taking this all too seriously…

And agreed, Monica and Chandler are just gross. I pity their unborn child. Ironically, Janice looked pretty (and much more appealing than Monica)!! Her husband seemed pretty sweet too - I think I’d rather be friends with them than with Monica and Chandler…

I was thinking about that too (god, what is wrong with me?) How would you guys write it? I think either Joey has to catch Ross before he gets back to the room and Ross will freak out and eventually suck it up and go back to the room and tell Rachel the flowers are a “congratulations” gift for the engagement OR Ross comes into the room and Joey and Rachel are hugging and one of them says their getting married and Joey gives Ross a look that says “please don’t blow this for me” and Ross actually picks up on it and doesn’t say anything and they straighten it all out later. Most likely Ross being a dork will say “that’s my NaNa’s ring!” and ruin everything, lol.

Was anyone else disappointed about the way Rachel said “Ok”? I could think of a lot worse things than to be married to an attractive guy who was madly in love with me, treated me like a queen and was willing to quit his job to take care of my illegitimate child! I guess if she doesn’t love him, she doesn’t love him, but it seems like it would be tough not to.

Aaack! “They’re” getting married. Sheesh.

From my perspective, Rachel’s “okay” was part of the whole exhausted, I don’t want to be alone, “Why the fuck not?” kind of acceptance. I don’t even believe her feelings for Ross are anything romantic either. To have them marry would be great if it was because Ross gets the girl he’s been in love with since 15 and Rachel realizes she really loves him, but I’m pretty sure if she married Ross, it’d be the same kind of “okay” response she gavee Joey, which would just lead to a very unhappy marriage for the two of them and then more bad shit would happen, and come on, GIVE ROSS A BREAK!!!

I don’t watch the show regularly, but it was the only thing on, and I have to admit, 75% of the time I watch it, it’s pretty funny. But I’ve got a question for the guys out there (and possibly the women too)…If you were Joey, what would you have done?

Personally, if a ring fell out of my best friend’s jacket, and I were on my knees with the realization that “Holy shit, he’s going to propose to her” and she said “What’s wrong?” My first instinct would not be to turn around on one knee holding it in front of me as an offering. It would be to shove the thing into my packet or straight under the jacket and make like I’d never seen the damned thing.

Of course, that wouldn’t make for much conflict in a sitcom, now would it? That’s why I don’t like the show, no one does anything normal people would do. I suspect the next episode to start with Ross walking in on Joey on his knees before he can explain things, fight breaks out, overall unhappiness, things get worked out, and Ross and Rachel still end up separate. Then Joey fucks a nurse.

That was sort of odd. I think maybe he was shocked sorta speechless and turned around to show her because he thought it might cheer her up about Ross’s feelings for her.

You’re right though, I don’t think Rachel loves Ross either. She’s just used to him.

No way. If we’ve learned anything about Ross, it’s that he’s prone to suffer in silence.

What will happen is that the first six or eight episodes next year will be full of hilarious hijinx as merry mixups over who is going to tell the truth to who get batted back and forth.

But in the end, Ross and Rachel will get married. Why? Because it’s Ross’s baby. And Friends is a pretty conservative show in almost every way.
