It's been a bit so: Songs You're Ashamed to Admit You Like

All the songs I love would fit on this list. sigh

My favorite song of all time has always been “Could It Be Magic” from…Barry Manilow. Chopin…forgive me.

I refuse to believe that anything by G. Lightfoot is shameworthy. No…no…

I love Jethro Tull. That’s all I have to say. I was happy when they won the award.

I also love ABC’s “Be Near Me.”

And the Carpenters.
I feel so naked now…

How does that compare with “Melanie” by Weird Al Yankovic?

Hanson - Penny and Me

Jessica Simpson - take my breath away

I’m a 27 year old man for heavens sake!

Regarding Karen, I can’t remember a singer who went from “dork” to “genius” so quickly (around 1990 or so).

FTR, her voice and phrasing really are amazing – KC is possibly the greatest female vocalist of the last fifty years.

(There is no shame).

I have a weakness for Don McLean’s epic songs…not just “American Pie” (which more than one actual Rock Musician has cited as a great song), but also “Vincent” and one other that isn’t coming to mind just now.

I also still just love Meatloaf’s “Paradise By The Dashboard Lights.”

Bless you, sir.

But will you still accept me when I admit to owning both Ambrosia’s and Orleans’ Greatest Hits?

“That’s how much I feel…” God help me.

Right Said Fred - I’m Too Sexy

Some Smashmouth songs.

I try to stop listening, but they always make their way onto my playlist.

I own Ambrosia’s greatest hits!
“Your the only woman”
“Your the biggest part of me”
Good stuff.

I prefer to think that this marks us as cool, and not pathetic.
I may be pathetic, but I’ve earned that honestly in plenty of other ways.

Ahem.

“Silly Love Songs” - Paul McCartney/Wings

Hey! I was young, in love, and…

I’m no longer young, I am in love (different woman), and I STILL like this song! Sue me.

Jewel Who Will Save Your Soul and Hands doubly strange b/c I don’t like her other music (sends me into screaming fits) and I’m an Atheist. Go figure.

Her voice is like a river of molten gold–warm, rich, and beautiful.

I’m not a country fan but I do like a few country songs and none of them would I ever let any of my friends know I like unless it"s that song that goes like this “you gotta know when to hold em’…” I think Kenny Rogers does it.
Kenny Rogers is pretty tight for a country artist.

I like Air Supply, Abba, Barry Manilow, jeez…half the songs in this thread! I don’t feel any shame about it either. The ones I’m embarrassed about are fairly new…

*The Reason * by Hoobastank

*I Want It That Way * by N’Sync (or one of those other boy bands, who knows?)

Yeah by uh, Ludacris? I don’t like rap and I can’t dance, but damn, that’s a catchy tune.

Just Another Day by Jon Secada

Normally I hate romantic ballads.
I’m not a big fan of Latin artists.
Even though I don’t really understand it, I really like the Spanish version of this song also.

Hey, now. Let’s not make this personal.

kids these days…

Since I’m not the first to bring up Barry Manilow, I feel okay about this. I love Copacabana. I named my car Lola, for crying out loud!
Oh, and Moody Bastard, there is no shame in liking John Denver!

Me too. I even went to far as to download a bunch of them from Napster. In my semi-defense, it was when Napster was “free”. I would never pay for boy-bandy-type music.

Also, Barry Manilow. I’m sorry, but that man can sang!

LOL I’ve had exactly the same experience. I hated them I was a kid when they were big. The past year or two I’ve come to really like some of the songs.

Outkast’s “Hey Yah”

Totally unashamed tho of liking ABBA, “My Heart Will Go On”, Jethro Tull or “Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald”.

But, supervenusfreak- “Brand New Key” and “Playground in my Mind”?!?!? You probably like “Seasons in the Sun” also!
