It's been raining hard all day. Should I feel guilty for ordering pizza?

It’s raining too hard for me to get out and I’m getting hungry.

Should I feel guilty for ordering pizza? I know the delivery guy will be soaked. It’s going to be awkward.

They’re out there anyway right? Delivering one more pizza can’t get them any wetter.

I assume an extra fat tip is required?

Seriously, are pizza delivery men given good ponchos to stay dry?

I just hate adding to anyone’s misery in life. They gotta make a buck rain or shine.

They don’t mind getting wet because people overtip when they see them in the rain. They do pretty well when it rains.

Don’t feel guilty.

Just don’t pay him by check. Whether it’s raining or not.

If you’re in central Arkansas, doesn’t the pizza guy come equipped with an automobile or a van? Don’t tell me he walks through the hills and the hollers in his long black veil to deliver your pie.

I suffer the same guilt on rainy/snowy/shitty days, but my favorite pizzeria is a block and a half away. So I generally put on my galoshes and mackintosh and fetch my pizza my own damn self. Which also means I get it at least 20 minutes earlier, hotter and fresher, and I don’t have to tip.

I’ll tip extra.

They’ll probably be busy. I bet a lot of people are staying in on this miserable, wet night.

I’ve heard they drive their own cars.

Just order a 24" and tell him to hold it over his head.

When I worked delivery back in college, the more deliveries, the better (and I can’t see why that wouldn’t be the case now), so no, don’t feel guilty in the least. I could sit on my ass bored off my ass in the restaurant earning minimum wage, or I could be out delivering, keeping myself occupied by driving around, and earning tips that about tripled my minimum wage. Gee…what do you think I prefered?

I delivered pizzas for a year in my twenties. I say go ahead and order, especially if you think business is slow. Help make up for the lull.

It’s always raining in Seattle (October though April) and we keep ordering pizza.

If you’re feeling guilty about it, go out and wait for him at the end of your driveway. Then all he has to do is stay in his car and roll down his window.

Yes, of course they do. Imagine how much pizza would cost if you had to insure a fleet of vehicles, let alone maintain it…

Yes, you should feel guilty, since you didn’t invite any of us.

Our local pizza joint (in a little jerkwater town) has their own fleet of delivery cars. Their pies are more expensive than, say, Domino’s but not exceptionally so. Damn good pizza too.

Goddammit now I want to call in a big meat lover’s. Shit.

And you have NO food in the house?

You should feel guilty because I already had dinner, and now I also want pizza.

Shame! Shame! Shame!

We do have that new contraption in Arkansas called an umbrella. I am pretty sure he comes armed with the genius tech.
Don’t fret order your pie.

Stand out there with no coat or umbrella.

Maybe he’ll give YOU a tip.

Don’t feel bad about ordering but tip well.
Whether you order or not, the drivers are on duty and they’re sitting around making a minimal amount per hour. If you order, at least they’ll get a tip.
If they get soaked because they don’t have a waterproof jacket and/or an umbrella, that’s their fault. If you make them wait on your uncovered porch, you’re an ass and wouldn’t be asking this question.

Just my $.02 - DESK

This isn’t really about the food, so I’m going to move it from CS to IMHO.

I had this same thought a few weeks ago when we were getting hit hard with snow and it was treacherous outside. Eventually the snow lightened up a bit, the main road between them and us was plowed, and they took our order when we called (though said it might be 60-90 minutes) but they were delivering. I did make sure to double my customary tip.
