This is probably more MPSIMS material, but it’s art-related, so into the Cafe it goes. Today is the 143rd anniversary of Mr. Munch’s birth, and Google has updated their logo to reflect that fact. We’re all familiar with The Scream, but probably very few of us are familiar with his other works. So take a minute to read about him, and look at his paintings.
Edvard! You Veirdo, you!
In honor of the illustrious Mr. Munch… :eek:
Shall I be nerdy and describe how I worked Munch references into one of my Star Trek fanfics?
No? Good choice.
Having knowledge of your posts and their intrinsic humor, I have the dubious pleasure of actually understanding what you meant, lieu!
Quasi
The Scream is my favorite painting. In honor of Edvard, I think I’ll go outside and yell a little bit.
It’s my wallpaper today. Just my little token of appreciation.
{:eek:}
(Madonna doesn’t quite translate so well to a smiley, I’m afraid. Happy birthday, Mr. Munch. :))
Google posted The Scream on their page today, and for a while the link to the image was broken. For a moment I wondered if it had been taken by some digital art thieves.
What a perfectly awesome person to share a birthday with
i was in love with his Madonna in high school. Happy birthday Mr. Munch!
So, who is screaming in “The Scream”? While watching an Ovation show called “Portrait of a Masterpiece”, I learned something about this painting that I did not know, which led to me wikipedia.org:
“I was walking along a path with two friends—the sun was setting—suddenly the sky turned blood red—I paused, feeling exhausted, and leaned on the fence—there was blood and tongues of fire above the blue-black fjord and the city—my friends walked on, and I stood there trembling with anxiety—and I sensed an infinite scream passing through nature.” - Edvard Munch
And this:
Sabrina Laurent (May 2005) deduced from Munch’s description of his inspiration that the person in the foreground is the artist himself who “is not in fact screaming but simply reacting with horror to the scream of Nature. By placing his hands on his ears, Munch is desperately trying not to hear this scream that is putting him in some kind of panic attack.”
