It’s an unseasonably warm day today in Massachusetts, and the temperature is set to go to 68 or 72 degrees, depending on where you are and who you listen to. I get to work this Veteran’s Day, and when I walk into our building THE HEAT IS ON!!! It was well over 80 degrees inside, with no way to turn it down.
Ah, yes… it sounds like my workplace. The logic of the Government (I work on a military base): During the Fall and Winter months keep the A/C blasting at about 60 degrees. Co-workers and I wear sweaters and coats along with using space heaters. The facility manager lectures us for using space heaters yet does nothing to possibly get the air turned off. Then, after surviving months of typing and not being able to feel your finger tips, we finally get the heat turned on… in April. Just when it gets to be nice weather in South Carolina. Also, there is no thermostat to control the level of freezing or roasting you endure (season depending). It has been like this for the 6 years I have worked there - the co-workers and I believe it is some sort of psychological experiment. My best advice is to open the windows (which is what we do in the Spring & Summer when the heat is on) and get a fan.
Well, we have our air conditioner on. It hasn’t been turned off yet. (Of course, it is 81 degrees outside right now.) All last week when it was chilly outside, we still had the AC on. We get emails from the building manager that say we can’t turn off the AC until it’s cold enough to turn the heat on. I don’t really care, as long as it’s not hot in here.
Oh, and we have thermostats in each room. None of them work, but I think they’ve been placed there to make us feel like we have some control at work. I wish I had windows to open. My office is a cement block hell, located on the fifth floor of a psychiatric hospital. (All the offices around mine have windows, they just don’t open.)
I am SO going outside for lunch!
I saw the thread title, I knew you would be in Mass CalMeacham!
It is pretty warm at my work too!! Crazy weather, three days ago my ears were ready to fall off…
