It's like Xmas all over again... Xbox 360 that is!

After a few months of judicious shopping at Safeway the Prefect household has collected enough Airmiles to order a Xbox 360. Which arrived here at the office just under an hour ago  We picked up some gear for it last week. GRAW, GRAW 2 (according to my daughter, that’s how the cool kids say it), Gears of War and Splinter Cell. Plus, unbeknownst to us it came with Project Gotham Racing 3. We got a second wireless controller and the remote control.

This will be fun

If you like Tom Clancy Titles, Check out Rainbow Six Vegas, It is the Bee’s Knees, and has some fun multiplayer options.

Guitar Hero II is out tommorow for the 360, could be a fun family game.

Halo 2 is still sexy. I dig Call of Duty 3 as well.

Got it up and running after a FordPrefect moment of stupidity :smack: Transferred the Xbox Live account and we are in business.

Gears of War looks stunning, and is a lot of fun. My daughter and I were playing some co-op last night. Mrs. Prefect and I were racing in PGR 3, pretty good too and I am not really into racing games.

I will definitely check out Vegas. We had it in our grubby paws, but finances dictated the choice between that and GoW. Since we already picked Splinter Cell, GRAW 1 & 2 I felt we had enough Clancy for the moment, but it will be a definite purchase in the future.

Hey FordPrefect, if you need a Doper to play with/against on Xbox Live, I’m I Dixon Tufar I

Cool! The Prefect Fam’s tag is Spartibartfast.
If Sparti has pinged you via sniper from 300 miles away, that’s my daughter.
If Sparti is a team killing fucktard, that’ll be my son with one of his buddies.
On the other hand if Sparti is running around like a drunk chicken… that’ll be me

Mmmmm. Drunk chicken.

I don’t know why, but I suck at Gears. Every other first person shooter and I’m badass. That game…I don’t know why. It’ll still be fun, though.

It’s the aiming system (or lack of) in Gears, I’ll bet. I can’t aim for shit. I can beat Halo Legendary with one eye closed, but I can’t/don’t aim. Getting too old I guess.

When I get my turn on Live, I’ll look you up for some good ole fashioned kill fest fun.

I don’t have GoW yet. I have been playing GRAW2 and I don’t like the aiming interface on it as much as Rainbow, but then I have been playing Rainbow More. On Graw2 the aiming seems like the controls have rubberbands so you get a little movement then alot, it is inconsistant.

I love Call of Duty 3, at least the Campain mode, have not played multiplayer much. It was big improvement over Call of Duty 2 for the 360

On Xbox Live depending on which machine I am playing on I am

Boatbuoy

or

Skipper Too

I just played through GoW a few days ago and thought it was okay but not brilliant. My big problem was with the weak graphics. Not the number of polygons or effects, but the actual graphic design. First there is the poor choice of pallets and character design that seemed intended to cause friendly fire. You wouldn’t know it from recent games but there are colors other than gray and brown and light doesn’t have massive bloom effects obscuring things. Then there was the rather generic environments that were laid out like deathmatch arenas which damaged immersion. It’s bad enough that the level design for the most part isn’t anything special but the bulk of the game is a set of paintball arenas reskinned to look like devastated streets or caves (on that subject, the designers clearly have no clue what a mine or factory actually look like, though they’re in good company since their mine and factory look like pretty much every single other mine and factory that have appeared in every single shooter in the past fifteen years).

I did like the sections in co-op play where the players split up and there were several encounters that were well designed, but that’s maybe 20% of the game while the other 80% is rather standard, generic shooter.
