I’m disappointed in my boys. They should have wiped the floor with EKU, looks like they had a run for their money. I shall keep the faith, though.
This is only time you will catch me rooting for WVU; hopefully here in a few minutes they’ll kick some Creighton ass and show those farmer boys how we do it in West Virginia.
I’m doing okay so far, but I had Kentucky going to the Elite Eight and I’m less confident in that now. Arizona, Wake, and Gonzaga were all losing at the half tonight. I had Gonzaga going to the Elite Eight and beating Wake in the Sweet Sixteen, so that was a pretty scary time.
Hey, as I’ve explained to every other member of Big Blue Nation, we were trying not to embarrass Travis Ford in his first trip to the Big Dance as a coach.
Blame the Selection Committee.
As long as the real Patrick Sparks shows up (and he better) we’re fine.
Once upon a time, maybe 10 years or so ago, I had seven of the Elite Eight pegged correctly. But the only one I missed was the team I had picked to win it all. I think I might have even had 3 of the Final Four and 1 of the last two right, but sadly I won not a dime. I’m thinking I might have put all my eggs on Illinois that year (although I could be wrong).
Illinois is only up by 1 at the half! I’ve got them making the Finals, and I’m probably screwed if they don’t at least get close. And they’ll probably come back and win by 15, but if they don’t, man, that’d be pretty damned cool anyway.
I’m not too worried about them. I remember when my Boilermakers had Illinois down at halftime by a fair margin (still single digits, though) and the Illini ended up beating us pretty soundly. Illinois, even though the bulk of their team is juniors, is a very seasoned group. They’ll pull it together and get done what needs to be.
I expect they will, too. Like I said a few posts earlier, many of the top seeds have had tough games. But you keep watching on that off chance that maybe it’ll happen this time.
Wow, the last set of games totally kicked my ass. I picked Creighton, LSU, and UCLA. I had them all losing in the next round, so it won’t mess with my bracket too much, hopefully, but damn. Not good for the standings.
I knew Gonzaga was at least a year away from the final four. I knew it. I was sure of it. So what I do? Of course I go ahead and decide that they will over-achieve and make it to the final four and promptly pick them to make it. What does Gonzaga do? Exactly what I would have predicted earlier in the year (except maybe a round early): lose a game that they could have won because of inexpierience. A more expierienced team could have held a 13 point lead. Hell, even with how they played, all they needed to do was hit free throws, which was a strength through the year. Not today, though. One final four team down the drain, three to go.
So my bracket is officially pushing up daisies. Thankfully GT is still in it, we have to beat Louisville this week, then GW next week, and I’m betting WV in the Elite 8.
