It's Moanday So Here Is The New MMP

Upon getting up to put the leftovers in the oven it hit me. I’m catching a cold. No wonder I’m out of energy. And my head is filing up. Damn. Too much time out in crowds in stores plus visits to 3 medical facilities. Must’ve run across somebody (or some doorknob) slathered with cold virus.

Launching the massive Vit C overdose and hoping for the best. Noticed I was chilly in a warm house. Time to put on my warm “jammies”. Actually a fleece warm-up suit. House thermostat says 79F. That’s from being open all day.

Crap. I need to lose a couple days like I need a hole in the head. Usually I can stave it off if I catch it early. Here’s hoping.

We had a guy stop by to give us an estimate to screen in the front porch. It’s 4’ on 2 sides and less than 30’ on the other side. Roof already in place. If we signed today, we’d get it for just over $6K. Um, nope.

**FCD **had guessed it might cost around $3K, which I thought was stiff. Guess that shows what we know. Anyway, it’ll probably be DIY, even tho we didn’t want to do it ourselves.

**Butters **- they had to order a part for the furnace. Maybe have it fixed the end of the week…

Kitchen is clean, and apartment is dusted and vacuumed. Having a martini, with the Italian chicken marinates. For some reason my keyboard is making Pong noises.:dubious:

Flyguy, my choice of disease fighting Vitamin C is a Screwdriver(Alcohol sterilizes!)

I bet Mrs. Trap V1.0 and V2.0 said the same thing in court.

And don’t forget to screen the bottom of the porch, too.

Bottom of the porch? Are you being weird, too?

When I lived in Missouri, we ran the screen underneath the porch, as well as around the sides. Tenacious, blood sucking bugs out there. Of course, I have no idea why we’re talking about porches and screens.

Feel better Flyguy.

Our front porch is a concrete slab, so I’m pretty sure it’s not necessary to screen under it.

Flyguy, hope it’s nothing more than a cold. Feel like I’m getting something, but not enough to stay in bed. Also have an achy foot when I put weight on it after sitting. Don’t know why, but I’ll keep an eye on it.

Swampy, glad the appointments could be arranged. My dentist likes to see me every six months and they make the appointment when I’m in for the previous one. Like I’m likely to remember something six months from now (they do call/e-mail just before the date). You did remind me that I haven’t seen a eye doc in about 2 years and since I pay insurance for it, I ought to now and then.

FCM, hope the furnace is under warranty. They worked on mine a couple months ago, ended up replacing 3 parts (all under warranty) and it still cost me $400 in labor. May your luck be better.

Butters, glad the scan (and the drive) went OK. and congrats on the new grand-baby.

Nut, good wishes on the test results and who knows, maybe the electric folks will end up paying you (one never knows…)

Have dined on Macaroni and Cheese and with it still raining outside, a quiet and indoors night is in the cards.

Congrats on the new great grandbaby butters!

metal mouse, you were right about the rain. When I took Nelson out at 5:20 am, it was pouring. We were both suited up, me in a rain poncho and him in his yellow slicker. We didn’t stay out long.

Things got did today. That’s about all. Tonight, I need to prep the yule logs for the heathen children to decorate this Sunday.

Ah. I assumed you had a raised wooden porch, with space between the deck slats.
Carry on, then.

A short martini might help. I’ll get right on it.

Actually you reminded me of another actual home remedy I’d forgotten. Moisten a little finger in rubbing alcolhol & run it up your nostril & dig around for a bit. If bugs are multiplying in there, that’ll get 'em.

Probably not good for your mucous membranes if done daily for years. But safe enough to do once in awhile and it sure seems to help kill colds in the early stages.

Thanks for the good wishes all. Pretty minor irritant compared to even the first page of medical issues in MPSIMS today. Much less the endless parade of truly nasty stuff happening to people.

If the bugs make it through the concrete, you have bigger problems…

When you assume, you make an ass out of you, not me.

LSLguy is flyguy?
That is less logical than flytrap.

@The Vorlon:
Tremors anyone?

He’s a pilot. We also lack imagination. There may be some correlation. Now that you mention it, we do have two “fly” names. Perhaps we should re-think LSLguy’s name. skyguy? (Yes, that’s awful. Others will have to help.)

I figured out the porch discussion. I’m having that issue where I hit “first unread” and it takes me to some random place on the thread. I missed the note from Mooommm about screening in the porch. Moooommm you should get another estimate. That sounds crazy high for something that you could likely do yourself in a weekend.

flyguy, my grandfather’s home remedy to ease a stuffy nose was to dip a cotton swab in VapoRub and swab the inside of the nostrils. It does help.

We had our porch screened in about 6 years ago and it was only about 20 feet bigger on the long side. It was about $2000. I would get another estimate too.

Evidentally, it bears repeating.

Which one checked your eye teeth?

More for me.

Why are you diluting good vodka? Or do you not have good vodka, in which case, it’s okay to dilute it.

You don’t need Doggio’s help; you do a wonderful job of that all by yourself. (See, I do pay you compliments sometimes. :p)
Went running this evening. Wore a Class III reflective vest & had more (LEDs) lights on me than about 40% of the Xmas corporate/professional trees, including a lightbar, one (rated up to 2+ miles of visibility, LED lights rated at 930 lumens, 360 degree illumination) in beserker mode & still had some guy try to turn thru me in the marked pedestrian crosswalk. Idjit!

He had places to go! Things to do! yeeeesh. Your only defense is to run in full plate armor.

They are  Talked to 'em again last night, and they said that if I’m happy with a bill of -£14, so far as they can see, it’s right on the system, so it can stay like that. I reckon they decided it’s not worth the staff hours to try and get it quite right. That’s this month free, and what should be about half of next month’s as well.

Got one more test tomorrow, then that’s it for the year. Got a nastier exam to revise for on the day we get back though, as well as some coursework to be getting on with, so it’s not quite party time.

Happy Wednesday all!

it rained overnight and we’re promised a windy and chilly day.

**MetalMouse **- the furnace is about 11 years old, so I’m pretty sure it’s out of warranty. They charge $110/hr for labor, and I have no idea what the part will cost, but I’m pretty sure it’ll still be cheaper than buying a whole new furnace. However, this disproves the statement that “Nothing stops a Trane” :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m a pilot, too! OK, almost 40 years since my last biennial flight review, so technically, I can’t fly a plane, but as far as I know I could just have a check ride and be good to go. <snerk> yeah, right. I’m pretty sure it costs way more than the $11/hr I paid in 1974 to rent a Cessna 150.

We got one other estimate for the porch - actually, it was for all the stuff to screen it in ourselves, and it came to a tad under $2K. If we went with pressure-treated lumber and designed it ourselves, I’m pretty sure it would be less than $1K. It’s just a matter or deciding how we want to do it. But, yeah, $6K is ridiculous, even with a lifetime warranty.

I need chocolate. Happy Wednesday!
