It's My Life - Always Coca Cola

Am I the only person who hears the obvious similarity between the chorus from No Doubt’s It’s My Life and the early 90’s jingle Always Coca Cola? The resemblance is so strong that I can not hear the song without singing the jingle on top of it. I figured it was some sort of intentional tribute or parody by the band. To my surprise some coworkers heard me singing the jingle along with the pop song and claimed to have never noticed the similarity before. I thought they were outliers maybe, but I’m surprised that no meaningful results come up in a google search pairing the two tunes.

There are several versions of the Coke jingle, and I remember one that has the exact tubular synth sound featured in the It’s My Life, but I can’t locate it on youtube.

No I have to say I don’t hear it - the backing is somewhat similar I guess but not enough for me to really say they sound alike. In related news I do think Bon Jovi’s It’s My Life sounds a lot like Bryan Adam’s Summer of '69 though!

It’s My Life was originally by the band Talk Talk from 1984.

This is pretty old but I wanted to see what would come of it. Even though the No Doubt song came after the Talk Talk one, there do seem to be similarities.

On the face of it they are not that all that similar. Maybe there’s some tonal progressions a musician can distinguish as being similar, but they are hardly obvious to me as a layman.
