To celebrate this, my 100th post, I’m whipping up a batch of pancakes, flavored with vanilla and lemon zest. Perhaps also some with wild blueberries. And then we can have some French toast. Pass the Vermont maple syrup, please. How about some poached eggs, or better yet, some eggs benedict? Perhaps an omelette would be nice. Or maybe some crepes with nutella. It wouldn’t be a NY brunch without bagels and cream cheese, and I do believe, lox. I know there were some croissants around here somewhere… over by the hard rolls and cheese. And down at the other end of the table, I see some blintzes stuffed with cream cheese and topped with whipped cream and strawberries. Now where did I put the yogurt and granola? Oh, it’s over by the grapefruit. Ah, I see the coffee is ready. And there’s the fresh squeezed OJ. Let’s make mimosas!
Why brunch? 'Cause I can only post at work, and also because if no one shows, hey, at least I get to have a great meal. Pull up a chair, my friends!
Mmmmm, this is a wonderful invitation! I’d like three mimosas for starters, please. And I’d love an omlette, make mine bacon and cheese. I see hash browns with lots of cheese over there; I need a huge serving of those. Pancakes and french toast will be part of my second trip to the buffet. And isn’t that a tray of small and varied desserts on that table? Tiny brownies, cheesecakes, petit-fours, and there’s even a soft ice cream station.
I brought two huge buckets of crab legs and peel-and-eat shrimp as my contribution; please help yourself.
[sits down with a fork in one hand and mimosa in the other, starting with a nice bite of cheese danish]
Why, thank you, you’re so very much too kind! [bows head slightly and blushes] It would be a complete and total honor to have the privilege of attending a lifetime of such cool bashes! Let me know if the seafood runs low; I have couple dozen more pounds on ice in the cooler, and another 5-gallon bucket of cocktail sauce.
Brunch is just the best thing. Do I see a new batch of homemade coffee cake over there on the warming table? With lots of crunchy cinnamon topping, and swirls throughout…
Oh, and I think I’ll have another omelette, just two eggs this time, with cheese and smoked sausage. And more cheesy hash browns; they were great.
vanilla: Hope you’ve gotten some real food by now!

poopah: I wasn’t sure if you were kidding? (Ah, the power of the winking smilie.) If not, zest is the (often) grated rind of lemon or orange. Seriously, try it in pancakes - it’s super.
fierra: Glad you liked the idea. And to an Italian, “you’re making me hungry” is a great compliment.
Dire Wolf: Thanks for the pizza… since brunch is one of those meals you can eat at any time.
Well, good work on your 100th post! Thanks for your invitation and I wouldn’t mind a serving of maple syrup, omlette, and bacon, plus a side of toast. Taking it with a cup of coffee will surely satisfy my last nights craving!
Well, on my 100, I’ll have to invite you (and everyone else) to a nice “Cabane-a-sucre” up in the hills of Quebec. Make sure you’re ready for the snowy hike to there!
Ah, thanks for the correction. I can’t believe I forgot Colleen or Yvette–as many times as I’ve seen that movie.
“Yes, I did it. I killed Yvette. I hated her so much! It, it, the, it, flames, flames, flames . . . on the side of my face. Breathing, breathless, heaving breaths, heaving . . .”
(It loses something in the translation. You just have to hear Madeline say it, God bless her)
