Then you’ll like her current thread in the pit.
I think that waterj2 has created a new category of geekness.
El Geeko Here.
But then what did you expect?
Geek.
YES!
I’m cool!
I opened this thread because I thought it was about the Residents. I have the song in my head now.
The Residents Icky Flicks tour-
It’s coming to Boston next month!
It’s also a source of great consternation to me because while i am SO excited about seeing the Residents, I don’t know anyone else who likes them and i don’tthink I will be able to find anyone to go with me.
I’m sad.
Geek
Geek, like the rest of you.
The song “Istanbul, Not Constantinople” by TMBG regularly performs a valuable service for me. You know how sometimes you get a song you hate stuck in your head? Whenever that happens to me, I just start singing “Istanbul…” and in moments the offending song has fled.
“Istanbul…” gets stuck in my head in it’s place, but of course that’s all right.
Make a hole with the gun perpendicular.
I guess I’m the only person in the thread that should be shot, then.
When I hear Constantinople and Istanbul, I think of The Holy Roman Empire, especially Constantine. Thoughts of the Byzantines erecting great palaces and cathedrals also come to mind. It brings to mind studying about the Ottoman Turks and Mehmet II finally conquering the city and giving it its current name, Istanbul.
I do know that They Might Be Giants is a music group but I’ve never heard of the Residents. So I didn’t think of either of them when I read the title of this thread.
Do I get a last request?
BANG! Danimal falls dead.
When I hear Istanbul, I think of the Orient Express. ISTANBUL TRIESTE CALAIS. That probably makes me an Agatha Christie geek. After that, I think of the TMBG song, which makes me a double geek.
Geek. Hell, I even made up a verse.
Even Leningrad was once St. Petersburg.
Why’d they change it? I can’t say.
Stalin just liked it better that way
Don’t know jack about the Residents, but perhaps if oldscratch would care to provide an audio link for us geeks, maybe we could be enlightened. We are fighting ignorance here, people.
It ain’t Istanbul OR Constantinople, it’s Byzantium.
What residents? And what is TMBG–“Two Mommies Being Groovy”??
And why do people keep starting threads with posts that read as if they belonged in the middle of another thread that I haven’t read yet?
Hey Gravity, raise a paw!
Major Geek, checking in.
I think it is obvious that I am a geek. But I would rather be a TMBG loving geek than any variety of cool.
Just because you’re smiling doesn’t mean you haven’t drowned.
Do you really bite the heads off of live animals?
Wow. I’m waaaay out of the loop. I haven’t heard of the Residents; when I hear Constantinople, I think of boring history classes in elementary school; and the only TMBG song I know is the theme to Malcolm in the Middle. Is there any hope for me??
I’m a geek. I love that song. Oh, and TMBG is They Might Be Giants.
Not a big surprise… I’m cool. I have blocked the TMBG version out of my head. Only room for the Residents!
But oldscratch gets his coolness revoked for gratituous apostrophization in the OP.
One more geek checking in.
Thank you iampunha
anyway… I’m sure that creative people can find a link on Napster or some sort. A sample can be heard here. As for the lyrics of the vastly superior Residents song.
Well… you can find them here.
Turpentine… I’m sure you can find someone. Lucky me, I live in SF, where there are no shortage of Residents fans. I even got to see their halloween shows. Fun stuff.
