There is no snow here in Madison, WI. I love it, so go sniff some paint.
gobear, I am going to have to stand up today at some point. I think I’ll have to close my eyes and tiptoe by this post:p
I, for one, like for the weather to be predictable. Preferably between 40 and 80.
Sounds like another trip to Arizona is in order. We’re freezing our nards of here, at night anyway. Especially when we go outside and forget our jackets.
Definitely done with the A/C for now, thank God.
I’m glad to know that I am not the only one who was dissatisfied with the unusually warm weather we had for most of this month. Here in southern Idaho our Novembers are usually cold (about in the 40’s F) and drizzly. For most of the month it was in the mid 50’s and even past 60. This would be great in July when I complain the most about it being too hot, but not in November. I’m not comfortable with abnormalities in the weather when the temperature is warmer than it should be (cooler than normal temps don’t bother me). It heightens my concerns about global warming, for one thing. There is something satisfying about going out on a crisp, cold fall morning and listening to the sounds of the frost-covered leaves on the ground. I don’t recall any such morning being that cold this year. I don’t care that some people like that they can still go golfing or whatever at this time of year and “not have to even wear a jacket.”
I don’t know about other parts of the country, but here in Idaho our economy thrives on cold, snowy winters. A healthy snowpack means there will be plenty of water available next growing season for farmers to irrigate, there will be water in the rivers and the reservoirs for summer recreation (fishing, boating. etc.), not to mention skiing. A healthy snowpack also lessens the chances for forest fires. Our state suffers in all these areas when there is not enough snow.
I am pleased to say that Mother Nature redeemed herself these past few days. The weather finally dropped to the temperatures that I expect at this time of year. We got the season’s first snowstorm. It was enough to get the local ski areas opened up. Hopefully this is a good sign that we’ll get a white Christmas this year, too. Our last two white Christmases here were in 1990 and in 1998.
I swear, I should move to Alaska or Siberia.
I want to wear my nice, cuddly black white and red sweater. I haven’t had a chance to wear it in ages.
This is just seriously evil.
How do you tell the difference between summer and winter in southern California? In summer they were shorts and t-shirts, and in winter they wear shorts and sweatshirts.
Esprix
The same thing’s happening in Wisconsin. Usually we have a huge load of snow on the ground by now. It hasn’t even gone below 32 here yet.
Nanny, nanny, boo boo, I walked out onto my deck last night and sunk into snow up to my ass!!!
Read it and weep, suckas!
Better hurry up, Ethilrist. It’s melting!
One extra chance to walk and drive around with impunity! It would have been better if it hadn’t snowed in the first place, but, oh well. Perhaps I appreciate it more now.
It’s too WARM? Bite me. Try living in Syracuse. We got 200 inches of snow last winter.
Dear Management:
As it is currently hovering at the -25C mark here, would it be possible to fulfill the fondest wishes of those Southerners, and negotiate an exchange?
It is emphatically November here. We would very much like to be able to appreciate the effects of global warming like our Southern brethren and sistren. So could you please send us some?
It is my considered opinion that anyone who actually likes cold weather has a screw loose somewhere. It is my considered opinion that anyone who actually likes hot weather has a screw loose somewhere. I am most comfortable in the 70-to-80-degree range. (Fahrenheit scale, of course. For you furriners who use Celsius, that would be the 21-to-27-degree range.) Snow is pretty to look at, but I do not enjoy walking in it or on it or sledding on it or skiing on it or…
Can you tell I grew up in a place where it doesn’t snow very much? (Dallas/Fort Worth area.)
Myself, I am truly sick of 60 degrees and 99% humidity. Too cool and damp to open the windows, but not warm enough for the furnace to come on. So the air in the house just gets stagnant.
And I had a job interview on Wednesday; stopping for lunch at White Flint Mall afterwards, it was near 70 degrees, and in the walk from the Metro station I was dying of heatstroke in my jacket, tie, wool pants and polyester shirt.
Enough!! It’s getting so I expect to see palm trees and steel-drum bands when I look outside.
I don’t suppose we’ll get any snow this winter either.
(Remember the big blizzard we were supposed to get last December 30 that completely missed us?)
It is now December, and it has not yet snowed or gotten really cold in indiana. I love it!
And when it does snow y’all can have my share of the snow, snow haters club
Two great band names in one short paragraph. Super!
The snow is up to my butt and it is now snowing again.
I agree. It’s nearly 60 degrees today and I live in Maine! IT’S SUPPOSED TO SNOW NOW DAMNIT! It’s already snowed just a teeny bit, two days ago, just to taunt me. It should get colder soon, though, so maybe I will get lucky and get some snow. I want to wear my nice fuzzy sweaters too…
Well, anomalous or not, I am loving this warm weather. I hate winter, yes indeedy! The extended forecast in the Baltimore area has it in the high 50’s and 60’s (today it’ll be nearly 70!) and I am a happy girl. I am always, always cold, so it can stay like this all winter and I’d have nary a hiss or boo, and I wouldn’t have to flee to some warm place to escape!
I love being able to open the windows and air the place out, and not have to shoulder the burden of a heavy winter coat and stuff myself behind the wheel of my very small car. I love being able to type this as I sit in a T-shirt and boxers and bare feet, and hear birds chirping from outside. I even love the humidity, seriously I do. It’s great for my skin!
Okay, that’s all I had to say on the matter.
I must admit that I’m enjoying the warm weather here (DC metro area) but I’m rather nervous about the long term effects. My opinion is that we will have a warmer than normal winter, but with periods of especially vicious storms. Anyone remember the Blizzard of "96? Also, maybe this sounds crazy, but the 70 degrees today felt hotter than it did back in June. Maybe it’s just me . . .
Y’all can come up here to breezy Havre, MT. We’re in a warm spell right now, with temperatures nearly ten degrees above freezing, and tomorrow won’t be much better, (highs in the forties, fer Buddah’s sakes!) but Monday will be in the twenties, and if you come in the evening, you might be greeted by single-digit temperatures. True, it’s single-digit above zero, but one must be grateful one isn’t swatting bugs in some balmy torrid zone.
We have a windchill of 31. It’s amazing how much a 23 mph breeze can moderate the temperature.
Diane:
You’re just making me envious, you know.
