It had been a while since I’d synced up my iRiver with my Napster songs. Four months or so. Been pretty much that long since I’d used the iRiver, mainly because I couldn’t find an adapter to plug it in over here.
So finally I found an adapter, and I recharged the thing. Eventually I figured out a way to get my Napster subscription paid for (couldn’t use a non-US credit card) and renewed my subscription about a month ago.
I formatted the player, and resynced the newly restored songs onto the machine. And they wouldn’t play. Opened up Napster (I was using Media Player to sync) and there was some weird problem where I couldn’t play the songs within Napster. Looked in Media Player again and noticed all the license info was missing from the files. I tried all kinds of things over the course of month, hoping to avoid having to make the long distance call to Napster support.
Finally called Napster tonight and spent a decent chunk of change working out the different possible problems, got my licenses all reset, and was basically told to redownload all of the songs. So that’s what I did. After a few had downloaded, I tried again to sync them.
ANd they still wouldn’t play. The player would just merrily skip past song after song, totally failing to see that the license was valid. I called Napster back (they told me to call back if it still didn’t work) and tried some more things to get things right. Finally the guy said, if everything else is working, I’ve gotta think it’s your player.
Fine, I called iRiver, after over an hour of working with the extremely helpful folks at Napster. Seriously, those guys give tech support a good name, they were very patient, and very knowledgeable. Anyway, I finally call iRiver and explain my problem to her. She asks a few questions and then asks… “What does the date on the player say?”
:smack:
I check, and sure enough, the player thinks it’s last year, so it thinks the licenses are long expired. Fix the date, reformat again, resync songs and voila, it works like a dream.
I really am a dumbass.
