And it’s a very exciting program of contemporary liturgical/religious music:
- *Song for Athene * by Sir John Tavener
- *Seven Last Words from the Cross * by James MacMillan
- *Berliner Messe * by Arvo Pärt
- *Amen * by Henryk Górecki
It’s been a hard slog but I think we’ve got there. The MacMillan piece in particular, while fantastic, has also been devilishly difficult to learn. The concert is a sell-out so at least we’ll be performing in front of a full house.
For Australian Dopers: the performance is being recorded and will be broadcast next Friday night (14 April: Good Friday) at 8.00pm on ABC Classic FM.
Is that radio station on-line, perhaps, so not-Aussies might hear the program too?
Yes, ABC Classic FM is available online. Click on the “Listen now” option here.
The broadcast is at 8.00pm Sydney time on Good Friday (14 April) so that will be early Friday morning in the USA (6.00 am in New York). Earlier still in Iowa, which I assume is either one or two hours behind New York.
I’ll be sure to tune in :3
I’m not an early riser, but it looks like I’ll be able to listen later. I saw an archived link, and I’m assuming your program will be archived. You’re in the Sydney Philharmonic Orchestra? Awesome.
It went very well last night, aside from some tuning problems in the final *Amen * by Górecki. I think we were all just very tired by then. Let’s see what the reviewer says in Monday’s paper.
I wish. No. I’m in the Sydney Philharmonia Choir. It’s an amateur organisation although we like to think we have professional standards.
