The 16th rolls around, we raise our pints of Guinness and toast to the Day! Best wishes to all, and may every moment be as meaningful as the Day which led to the Dream that is Finnegans Wake.
Cheers!

Poets oft have sung in rhyme
Of music sweet their praise divine.
Let them hymn it nine times nine.
Dearer far than songs or wine.
You are mine. The world is mine.
Love’s

Ok, this threw me. I live in a city that celebrates an annual event, called Bloomsday (a 7mi foot race, 40k-odd participants). I participated in it this year.
As soon as I saw the thread title, my brain went, “Didn’t we already do that?”
Intersting! What city, and what’s the date of the race? Does it have anything to do with Joyce, or was there someone named Bloom who started it?
The Bloomsday Run happens in Spokane, Washington every May and was inspired by Joyce’s Ulysses.
Just don’t mention it around Stephen Joyce. God what a prick.
"Seussly": A Bloomsday poem by jackelope (after a Guinness or four)
We yearly recall
a holy novel this day;
June 16th is the time
We’re all Irish, they say.
(That applies to us book-nerds
Who don’t worship St. Patrick
Or his porcelain acolyte;
Or the Catholic hat trick.)
So hoist a few Guinni,
And have drinkery funnery;
And let old Aloysius
Make his readery punnery.
Ahhh, thank you for clearing up my ignorance.
I think I have hatemail to write…
jackelope: that was quite well done!
And, on that note, I figure that it’s about time, as it’s past midnight, to wish y’all a very happy end to Bloomsday. Until next year!
Glad you liked it, FinnAgain! As for declaring an end to Bloomsday 2006, I think you’re premature; Ulysses goes on until 4 or 5 a.m. on June 17.
I stand corrected. I’d always thought that Bloomsday just included the calendar day.
So, if Bloomsday is still on, I shouldn’t be leaving a single Guinness in the fridge. Ahhh… the sacrifices I make.
It’s on us again! May you all feel stately and plump for a day!
Way ahead of you
Anyone ever do the Bloomsday walk in Dublin? It’s been on what would now be called my “bucket list” since I first heard about it.
Found this thread by accident. Just saying hi.
Leo
It’s time to hoist a pint of Guinness and ramble around the city thinking about as much sacred and profane stuff as you can. Happy Bloomsday!
And back at you. Just re-devoured Episode 1 in The Little Review. Ah for a Guinness or even a nice cuppa to wash it down!
Well, thanks to my lucky potato, I made it through the day.
