It's The 12th Annual Steinhardt Family Hamantaschen Baking Thread

It’s that time of year again – Purim is rapidly approaching and the Steinhardt family has once again, as per tradition, baked hamantaschen. And, as per tradition, I am here to share the pictures with you once again.

Here are this year’s pictures: Hamantashen Baking 2013 | Flickr

And, if you want to see how the kids have grown up over the years, you can view all the pictures going back to 2002 here:

Ah, I’m feeling old now, I remember those early photo sets!

Happy Purim to you and yours!

Can you refresh me on what fillings you use?

When I baked them at a deli in Lansing we had two fillings, poppyseed and date.

Thank you zev! It’s been wonderful watching your children grow each year with this annual thread and I for one really appreciate it.

(My OG they’re big kids now!!)

Cheers

Awwwww, it’s my favorite annual thread! Such a great family tradition.

You fel old??? Imagine how I feel!

It varies. Usuall we have poppy and emon every year. This year, chocolate was the third filling, although in other years we’ve used cherry, apricot and other flavors.

Wow! You have teenagers now! Somehow I’d gotten it stuck in my head that they were all still prepubescent. Happy Purim!

Making mine Saturday (yeah, I know). I don’t like to rush into things.

Last year I made apple and Nutella; this year I’m doing those, plus raspberry (or strawberry) and meta (with speculoos), and the cocoa-hazelnut spread will be homemade.

As a friend said elsewhere: “Purim ninjas throw hamantashen, naturally.”

My goodness, kids just keep on growing up, don’t they?

Wonderful pictures!

Who are those men with the stubble and where are your sons??

You stole my thoughts!

I feel so old. I remember Zev once had kids.

And the U of C debate happens again…

Hah! Love it!

(I vote for the latkes by the way…)

Brings back great memories of when I lived in Chicago - all of my friends were Jewish (I am not) and they would bring back great goodies from home. I would eagerly be standing at the apartment door when they would arrive with bags of food sent home with them!

Sorry, but I did burst out with a laugh at one photo. I haven’t seen a plastic cover on a chair in ages! Now that reminds me of lots of people in my old home town!

As I say every year, thanks for doing this, Zev. It’s one of the things that makes this a community instead of a collection of smart alecks.

The only thing I dread is the year I click on the link and see grandchildren.

Happy Purim (if that is the appropriate expression). And to you and your whole family,

Regards,
Shodan

Chag somaach to you and your lovely family.

My non-Jewish husband has tried to make hamantashen several times unsuccessfully. The dough always turns out not quite right. I think he just likes saying the word lekvar.
