It's the official last Presidential Debate thread!

…centesis :). This was my take on it too, Kevbo. I think this is why you see fewer people with Down than in the past - older moms commonly test for it early in pregnancy.

It must be pretty disheartening to see your candidate do well, and honestly i think McCain did do well in every debate and all three were ties in my opinion, but then having him get creamed in every after debate poll. That huge "fuck you"to womens health was a pretty big mistake though, i don’t know why he tried so hard to pander to his own base thats already in the bag thanks to caribou barbie.

Have my babies?! Aww, hon, you watched it too long, didn’t you? :stuck_out_tongue:

But shucks, I don’t mind being a hero…

However, since Keith Olbermann is donating a hundred bucks to Special Olympics every time Palin tells a lie it looks like he’ll probably be able to make up the shortfall before Election Day!

Fortunately, it’s pretty funny to those of us on the other side. It reminds of the clip of the Kennedy/Nixon debate sponsored by Duff Beer on The Simpsons:

Nixon: Well I would suggest, Mr. Vancouver, that if you knew the President that, that was just a facetious remark.
Announcer: And now a word from our sponsor.
Kennedy: I would like to take this opportunity to announce my fondness for, ah, Duff Beer. [audience cheers]
Nixon: I’d also like to express, er, my fondness for that particular beer.[audience grumbles]

God, that’s perfect. If that was original, congratulations.

LOL I wish - that’s from Stephanie Miller. I’m not 100% sure she coined it, but she sure says it a lot.

One thing that seems to have been totally overlooked which I thought people would be jumping all over… Obama said that every single campaign ad McCain has ever run has been negative? That can’t possibly be true, can it?

I was assuming that Obama was talking about “in the past two weeks”, but left out the qualifier, and would then everyone on FoxNews etc. would be jumping all over it as if it were a major gaffe. But no one seems to have mentioned it at all?

Wow. Obama didn’t wait around before striking back strongly, did he?

I can’t find the info right now, but last night Yahoo had a little fact check page up. One of the points they addressed was Obama’s 100% negative ad statement. They did say that McCain had not always been 100% negative, but in the last few weeks the 100% negative statement was true.

It probably says a lot about public perception of McCain and his campaign that no one has said anything more about it.

Its true currently, it hasn’t been true for the entire campaign.

There was a fact check on it on CNN almost immediately: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/category/fact-check/ (scroll down) The summary is that from September 28 to October 4 “nearly 100%” of McCain ads were negative. It may not be being played up by Fox because saying “It’s only NEARLY 100%, not 100%” doesn’t sound all that great.

Wow, I had no idea that Olbermann was (well, by now it would be “used to be”) rich enough to hire Bill Gates to mow his lawn.

Snark-o-rama!

The first “Truuuue…” is hilarious. So this is what it feels like when the hard-hitting ads are on your side, huh.

Joe the Plumber has no plumbing license

Which makes sense since he’s related to Charles Keating and just might be buds with McCain:
Joe the Plumber? More like Joe the Keating Family Operative
By David Neiwert Thursday Oct 16, 2008 8:59am

I guess it’s no wonder John McCain was so happy to use “Joe the Plumber” as a debate prop last night – he’s a partisan Republican who also happens to be a member of McCain’s old friends, the Keating family.

From Martin Eisenstadt:
Turns out that Joe Wurzelbacher from the Toledo event is a close relative of Robert Wurzelbacher of Milford, Ohio. Who’s Robert Wurzelbacher? Only Charles Keating’s son-in-law and the former senior vice president of American Continental, the parent company of the infamous Lincoln Savings and Loan. The now retired elder Wurzelbacher is also a major contributor to Republican causes giving well over $10,000 in the last few years.

Joe the Plumber doesn’t really like paying any taxes.

I would not be affected by Obama’s proposed tax increase, but that’s about as much income tax (federal, city, state) that I pay every month or so. This is not a budding rich man here.

Palin, and now the plumber. It seems “the real America” just can’t get enough of ignorant blowhards to turn into folk heroes.

Hm? There’s no indication that that’s all the tax he pays in a year; that was probably the amount he owes since he didn’t have enough withheld from his paycheck one year to cover all his taxes. If it WAS all the state tax he owed, that’d put his salary at about 54K taxable income/yr, which is not poor, though if that’s all he makes I don’t see how he can buy a business that makes $280k/yr so he can complain about the extra $900 Obama’s plan will cost him.

I feel bad for the guy now. McSame mentions him in the interview and now everyone every where knows his information…probably things he doesn’t want his friends or family to know about.

I would feel bad for him if he had kept his fucking ignorant lying mouth shut but the minute he pontificated about Obama “tap dancing better than Sammy Davis Jr.” and saying Obama is a “socialist” he injected himself into the public stage. Fuck him, you can’t have it both ways if you want to glurge garbage and lies on national television then too bad if some of your own dirty laundry gets aired.

Joe the Plumber is a lying sack of shit. He had no serious plans to buy the company which consisted of exactly two people one of which was him and neither of which was licensed to work in their county. He is behind on his current taxes. He would not realistically be negatively affected by Obama’s tax plan. He apparently has ties to charle Keating. He can kis my ass.
