Yesterday was about eight degrees below zero, with a wind chill. I bundled up and walked to work, against the wind, into a lavender colored sunrise. My coat crackled from the cold, and the snow crunched under my boots.
A week ago, imthjckaz and I were working outside in thirty degree temperatures, winterizing a few remaining windows and cleaning the kennel. We both looked up because of an unusual honking sound. Ordinarily, Canadian Geese fly over the house all year round, en route to Lake George or the Mississippi River. This honking was different, and flying over us were seven Snow Geese in a perfect vee, a species I had never before seen in the wild.
Apparently they were the harbingers of winter, and the temperatures have been steadily dropping since then. But today, the temperature is back to twelve above with light snow.

Heard this morning that this winter will be “normal.” No El Niño, no La Niña. Just normally cold. I was concerned when we had mice in October instead of December–it got cold earlier this year.
I take heart in that it is twenty degrees warmer here than there. Whose bright idea was it to move to Minnesota, anyway? I could have told you.
And if I hear, “But it’s a dry cold in Minnesota,” from my mother one more time I will scream.
Eight degrees below zero! I get chills just thinking about it. Although, the lavender colored sunrise would be wonderful to see. Twenty-eight degrees and clear, here in NYC.
Northeast Florida is supposed to be in the 70s by this weekend, but I’ve had to scrape my car windows twice this week. We had a hard freeze just before T’giving, so my 'nanner trees are brown. I’d say it’s more brisk than cold here…
Today it was darker with a gray sky, not unlike the scene in your winter greeting card. There was also very light snow falling, which made for a little bit of slippery walking. It is such a peaceful way to start the day; the cold and icy walkways are worth hazarding.

The temp peaked at a brisk 6º yesterday here (Madison, WI).
Add a 20-30 mph wind on that, and you’ve got a nice 30 below WCF.

In my college days, the school I went to had a bridge over a river that was lined with trees. Talk about a wind tunnel. Exam week my frosh year, the WCF was around 100º below. They even cancelled exams on that side of the campus (for a day or 2 anyway)

Trees here do drop their leaves - in fact, some are JUST turning colors. Most of the natural fauna is fairly hardy - then again, it’d have to be to survive here, huh? My kid, OTOH, is a wimp. She whines when it drops below 60. Must get that from her father…
Can someone from the States send over some cold weather to the UK? It’s about 55 degrees here in Oxford. This isn’t December weather, for crying out loud!
You may have some of our cold weather, but I want enough left so that the snow doesn’t melt before Christmas. It’s 7 above this morning, so I think I’ll send you about fifteen degrees, so that it will be about 22 above here. That should make the walk a little warmer, and preserve the pretty white stuff.
Egad, egads! Where are you? Nowhere around Minnesota, I’m thinking.
