it...is...COLD!

2:00 A.M., Sat. Jan. 17, Somers Point, NJ (1/2 hours drive southof Atlantic City) it is 7 degrees F.

Some of the saltwater bay is frozen.

And I have to work outside.

You wimps. I put on a long sleeve shirt when it hits 0.

The wind child here has been down to -40 over the last few days. This requires a sweater.

Bah. It got down to -40 here without factoring in the wind. It’s been warm the last week or so, though.

When its 25 below zero in the Minnesota woods, it gets so quiet you could swear you hear Nature whisper…“Die!”

When I took the doggies out for their morning constitutional, it was 6°F in my back yard. The ground is hard. The ice I threw out there 2 days ago is still pretty much there.

I don’t mind any of that as much as the 35% humidity inside - it’s tooooooooo dry. Must find the humidifier…

1F here when I woke up. I need to go out but am unsure that the car will start. Will go and make the attempt in a few minutes.

-1° F here in northern Maryland when I woke up.

It was -9 yesterday and school was cancelled.

Our kids and a bunch of their friends spent nearly 6 hours outside playing and snowmobiling.

I helped a friend move a piece of furniture in my truck and the back doors didn’t close, so the inside temp with heat on full blast was around 40 degrees or so.
I love this weather. I have more gear and sweaters to combat the cold than I do summer time sunshiney ray of goodness time of year ( the 20 minutes in July here in Michigan where the weather is perfect.)

'tis a heat wave here this morning: 1 degree. I might even go snowshoeing today, seeing as it’s so warm!

It’s 3 degrees here right now! The high is supposed to be 18! Heat wave!

It’s 10 outside. If we’re lucky, it might hit 20, but I’m not holding my breath. It’s supposed to hit 32 tomorrow, but it’s also supposed to snow.

Can’t win for losing.

It was -23 F yesterday (air temperature without factoring in windchill factor). Forgive me if I’m not very impressed by temperatures that are still on the positive side of the scale.

While it’s not as bad here as some of you folks have it, it’s the coldest it’s been here in 9 years. (Central NC) It got down to 12 degrees overnight last night and is currently 20 degrees. So yeah, it’s cold. I love it.

It’s warming up here today! Yesterday I had to walk outside 75 yards to work at -22 F, this AM it’s up to 7!

The Mrs. and I did use the outdoor hottub last night, at -8 F. That was fun. The ice on Lake Michigan was making the most interesting sounds.

I am definitely NOT loving it. Something in our well system froze last night so not water when we got up this morning. We’re waiting for the plumber to call us back. :frowning:

We have a case of Diet Pepsi sitting on the porch. I heard a noise earlier, like someone was throwing something up there, but when I looked, I noticed one of the cans of soda exploded.

At least the rest are nice and cold and probably frozen solid.

-14F here overnight, before the mercury started rising (20s forecast today, naked snowbaths of normal duration can resume).

:frowning: Sorry to hear that. My boyfriend’s water feed to his on demand hot water system froze yesterday too. He was pissed. He had no hot water on demand.

Cloudless blue skies and 55° F here on the front range of Colorado. The forecast for the next few days is sunny and 58, 62, 65 and 62. The golf clubs are back in the car.

Well, in case this can help anyone else - when the plumber called back he told us to try sticking a mechanic’s light (one of those 100-watt bulbs encased in a cage) in the well enclosure for a few hours - I guess when this happens with a well around here, the frozen spot is usually in the pipe near where it branches off from the well shaft toward the house. It worked.

And if the well pump is running constantly (which it probably will be, trying to fill up the pressure tank again after it empties, since it’s hard to know what’s going on until then), turn it off at the breaker so it won’t burn out trying to pump water that ain’t going to go until the blockage melts.

That might help with the on-demand hot water, too - either a nice warm light bulb or heat tape on the pipes.
