Itunes backup question - using old software to burn to disc

Used to be there was a features on Itunes (version 10.3 and older) to allow you to backup your music library to CD. Apple, greedy bastards that they are, decided to eliminate this feature on the latest software update(s) so that you’d have to buy their cloud service.

There are ways around this, including uninstalling the newest software and reinstalling Itunes 10.3. Has anyone uninstalled then reinstalled 10.3, and are there precautions to take when doing this (I’d prefer not to accidentally delete my entire music library and have to depend on the external hard drive to restore it)?

And yes, I like having multiple backups of my music on different media.

What OS are you using?

Windows Vista

Are you trying to burn music CDs, or do you want to have a CD-rom backup of your music library? If the latter, what is to stop you from just dragging files to a blank CD-rom? (I’m asking because there must be some other programs, probably freeware, to help you do want you want to do.)
Also, what is the total size of the files you want to backup?

The old Itunes software let you burn compressed music files to CD as recovery disks. It would recognize stuff you’d already saved and just copy the new stuff.I have something like 30 CDs with my whole music collection backed up (as of several months ago).

I could use the current version of Itunes to make single CD copies of albums, but I really don’t want to have to burn a couple thousand CDs to cover the new material.

There is other software out there that supposedly does much of the job the older Itunes software did, but my preference would be to uninstall the new Itunes crapware and reinstall the old version, assuming that is safe to do.

I did not know that. I never used that feature, I’ve always backed up my library to another hard disk.

I would think that if you go back to iTunes 10.3 the only thing you would need to restore would be the 10.3 iTunes library files to be back to where you were before. Do you still have a copy of those 10.3 library files? Uninstalling the current iTunes should not get rid of the music files / video files in your library.
If you don’t have a backup of the iTunes 10.3 files, uninstall the latest version, reinstall 10.3, and then add everything back to the library, but you would lose all your playlists etc. And then the backup might not remember which files were backed up.
