Itunes: "Downloads" window and monitoring synching

Questions about Itunes:

  1. Is there any way to make the “Downloads” window permanent, like all the other windows? In order to get the window, I have to wait until a download occurs, and then quickly catch the opportunity to open it in a separate window before it disappears. I want to be able to monitor it on a permanent basis.

  2. Is there any way to monitor synching to devices (Ipod, Iphone)? The little window at the top occasionally pops up and mentions what’s being synched at the moment, but I want to be able to monitor what is being synched and how long it is taking on an ongoing basis.

No love for these questions.

The downloads screen contains files that are currently being downloaded. Once the file completes, it disappears from there and becomes active in the purchased screen and goes into your library. What exactly are you trying to monitor when you don’t have anything currently downloading?

No, once a file completes downloading, it remains on the screen in greyed-out form.

Once the download window is closed, all the greyed-out items disappear and the window can’t be reopened until a new download begins, after which only the new downloads are displayed.

I want to always be able to check back what I have downloaded. Not all things that are downloaded are purchases (podcasts, for example).

Also, if I want to monitor current downloading, I have to catch the window while there is still one item downloading. If the downloads are fast or short, then either the first few items have already disappeared or the window becomes unavailable altogether if there were only a few short downloads – in which I can’t check back to see what the first couple of downloads were. It’s a race for me to get the mouse to “downloads” before it disappears again.

But most of all, I want my window to be accessible all the time, even if it is blank at the moment.
